help with extreme case of writers block

Postby HwaRang777 » Sun Jul 11, 2004 4:31 pm

hey everyone!

I have a huge question/favor to ask you guys. I have this repetitive problem where I get hyped up about writing new parts for my stories, but once I turn on the PC I just don't feel like it. What should I do about this. I know that my organizational skills have to do something with it but I don't know how to make an outline for a story. Plus I'm considering just writing random scenes and then from there drag them into their places and then writing in between, is that a good idea?

When I get that problem I generally talk to a friend about the story in question and we come up with the most off the wall ideas we can for the characters, mostly being as mean to the characters as possible. By the end of it just thinking about the characters and the various directions it could go helps, that or I work on something else and take a break from it.

I'm a bit of a writer myself, and I have alot of trouble with this. What I've learned to do is just do it. When you sit down and you suddenly don't feel like writting, make youself. Even of you just write one sentence. That's how I get through difficult passages-- one sentence at a time.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I read on a website about writing that the key to getting rid of writer's block was knowing first that there is no such thing as writer's block. It said it was all in your head.

Um, I have yet to prove that as true... :eh:

Dont turn on your computer at all! :thumb:

get a legal pad and write it there.

If that dosn't help get your Girlfriend/Wife/Mother/Elderly-nextdoor-neighbor to type as you dictate, works every time

When I get writer's block, my solution is to simply force myself. After a few minutes I get back into the groove...you just have to hop the wall so you can sprint. (I also find that music and stuff really just distracts you in the end...) Good luck on your writing!

That mostly sounds good to me but I find that Music keeps me going, rather than distracting me.

BTW: HwaRang777 posted this thread almost a year ago, I hope he has gotten past his wrighters block by now.

Sometimes music helps me...sometimes. If it's the right genre for the scene I'm writing.

As to the date... The date on the initial post by HwaRang reads 2004... Am I missing something?
