The Bargain Bin thread!

Postby Link Antilles » Thu Aug 12, 2004 4:24 am

This is the thread were you shamelessly plug your favorite games, that are now a fraction of the cost you paid for them, so others can reap from our impulsive foolishness….

I’ll kick off…

Knights of the Old Republic goes platinum!

Yep, according to the Official KOTOR Site Microsoft finally inducted everyone's favorite Star Wars RPG into the Microsoft Platinum Hits series.

And I think I speak for everyone when I say: "Holy crap! I can now get a boat load of delicious Star Wars Role Playing goodness for the low, low price of under $20? This is the single greatest thing that's happened to me since I lost my Sonny & Cher's Greatest Hits album!*"

*Too bad I already have Knights of the Old Republic, and no I wasn’t the one who purchase that album.

Starcraft!

Get it. Now. This is the greatest game ever. None shall match it.
Only $20-30 (Canadian) for the Battle Chest, which contains Starcraft, BW, and two strategy guides.

I see that KOTOR is $19.99 for the PC too over at Amazon.com. Which is good, since I don't have an Xbox. Is the PC version just as good?

That's cool! :thumb:

Actually, I first played it on the X-box, but only rented it, 'cause I was waiting on the PC version. When the PC version came around, there was a lot of really nasty bugs for the game.... though, I think a quick few patches fixed that. Did the bugs affect me? No, I never encountered any problems, aside from one crash at the near end of the game. Fortunately, the auto save had kicked in and I picked up where it kicked me off.

The reason why I waited for the PC version instead of just buying the X-box version was that; I have a gaming PC and I heard the graphics where a lot better (which they are, thanks to much particle effects, touched up character models, and of course resolution).

Now, I have a few friends that couldn't run the game, even after the patch... so I highly recommend you at least 512 Megs of Ram and a 64mb Graphics card or better....

Aside from the bugs, the PC is improved.... it has a new area, Yavin 4 station, to explore and purchase new weapons. Pretty small place, but a nice little add on (which is availible for download on the X-box via X-box live). The graphics are of course a lot better, if you have a good system. There's a few other changes I can't remember..... for the better, of course.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Got it cheap, glad too, since it was one of the crappiest games I ever played.

EDIT: (Just kidding; OOC is really one of my all time favorite games)

NFL 2k5 wasn't a bad deal for 19 dollars and some change, it's got smooth arcade-style gameplay and is lovely on Xbox Live. Also Xenosaga on PS2 is only 20 bucks right now, although you spend more time watching than actually playing the storyline is so KEY and so GOOD.

Alas with Star Wars KOTR dripped down to a lower price, I must say that in itself is a bargain bin steal.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - $19.99 (although I got it for $10 on Ebay ;) ).

This is an excellent game for anyone who likes platformers, although it is good enough that most others will also like it. Combat is challenging, as are the acrobatic puzzles; and the story is fairly original.

ShintaTheGentle wrote:EDIT: If you mean "River City Ransom" then that is not quite the type of game I mean. I mean more like, take Final Fantasy (anything but Tactics,) rip out the combat system and put in a Street-Fighter 2-D (or I guess now-a-days no one would be happy without something more like Soul Calibur 2 3-D style) fighting system. Random encounters are ok (as long as there is a "No encounters" ability. Hehehe. If you do not mean "River City Ransom" then I am at a loss, for I could find nothing on a game "River City Rampage."
You might want to try Champions of Norrath for the PS2. It is a fast-paced action RPG for up to 4 players (on or offline). You can choose from 5 different classes, each with unique abilities and weapons/items. The game is pretty challenging, and has a good story. Another good choice might be Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for the PS2. The RPG elements are somewhat underdeveloped, but the combat is fun. Gauntlet also has lots of unlockable characters, adding to the replay value.

If you're looking for something a little different, you might want to try Samurai Warriors and/or Dynasty Warriors 4. Although Dynasty Warriors started out simple, the developers have incorporated many RPG elements over time, such as item collecting, experience, character creation, and special abilities (purchased with points earned based on your performance during the game). The story is interesting, especially if you like Japanese/Chinese history (Samurai Warriors takes place in Japan, while Dynasty Warriors is set in China).
