Grandia 2

Postby Gypsy » Fri May 30, 2003 9:26 am

Well, we needed something in the gaming section, so I thought I would just let the world know that I am currently playing Grandia 2. I love the battle system, and the story is very original so far. And the chars are cool for the most part. Anyone ever play this dreamcast/ps2 rpg? How does it compare to the first Grandia (which I own but haven't played yet.)?

I played through the dreamcast version, and i've seen the ps2 theirs not a huge difference in the two, the ps2 might have a bit more defined graffix,. I loved the battle system in that game too, once you' get used to it, you can rule the computer. As for the story , i wont spoil it for you, but there is a strong we dont need God undertone to it. Its too bad, it was a great game, but that fact keeps me from giveing it a 10 score, so now its a 8.

Yeah, many, many games have that tone to them. FFX just to name one. However, picking up on it is a good thing, and it's amazing how much of it is out there when you start watching for it.

Compaired to the Original Grandia? I like the original alot better, In my own opinion I thought that the first game had more of a grand epic feel too it, were you constantly searched for the next clue or adventure. You could practicly feel the wind on your face as you trecked to find something new.... now i want to play it again.....

I need to get the original Grandia sometime. It's a good game from what I've heard.

Well, Aaron, you've talked me into it. Grandia will be the next one I play (after Lunar 2 of course). I really, really liked Grandia II, but if you say the first one is better ...

Btw, for anyone that's every plaed the game, the soundtrack to Grandia II is excellent. They have two volumes that they split up between albums based on each of the female lead characters - Elena and Millenia. Good stuff.

English Translations for Grandia 2 songs

Postby Gypsy » Mon Jun 30, 2003 8:10 am

Just in case anyone played the game and wondered what the heck Elena was singing about, today is your lucky day. I was looking at the words in my soundtrack sleeve, and didn't immediately recognize the language they were in. I mean, there were words that I picked up on, but obviously it wasn't in Japanese, English, or Spanish. Then I wondered if they were (for some odd reason) Portuguese. I showed them to my Portuguese friend, and sure enough, he could translate them for me. So here they are:

Deus (the first song you hear Elena sing)

[i]Nascer do sol, palavras, milagre

Sure did! The ending is very good, actually. Many times, you get through an awesome game and the ending is horrible. I'm not saying the ending to Grandia 2 was perfect but it was really good. You'll see what I mean.

Just bought this (for the Dreamcast) -- haven't gotten a chance to play it yet, since my DC is 100 miles away at the moment, but the soundtrack is great!

By the way, speaking of DC titles, anyone played Skies of Arcadia? They had that at GameStop as well, and I was wondering if people had any recommendations (yay or nay).

They ported it to Gamecube recently. I haven't played it myself but the concept sounds original for an RPG(air pirates! ). If I'm not mistaken, it's considered one of the best RPG's on DC along with Grandia 2.

I have it, but I've only checked out the first hour of it. However, I know for a fact that Ink's played through it, so she'll be able to tell you all about it.

Interesting tidbit:

While playing through Grandia 2, Millenia's voice sounded so familiar to me that it I usually missed what she was saying because I was listening so intently to her voice. After scanning through the voice cast, I was pleasantly surprised to see Jodi Benson's name across from Millenia's. If the name Jodi Benson doesn't mean anything to you, maybe the name Ariel from Disney's "The Little Mermaid" will. Jodi Benson is also a Christian. I just thought it was cool that she was in there. The voice of the main character Ryudo, Cam Clarke, has also worked in a few animes. While you're looking at the cast list, it's also interesting to see how many times they used the same actor for different characters.

But you'll like Grandia 2. The game is very rich in design. If you have the game insert manual handy, check out Ryudo's official character picture. Now look at the pendant on his chest. *snickers*

A butterfly? (At least I think that's what it is ... *sheepish*)

Interesting about the VA cast. When I get this into the DC tomorrow (I guess it's "today" now), I'll have to listen carefully to the actors.

Yeah, it's a butterfly all right. I'm not sure why they did that, since it has nothing to do with his personality, or even anything symbolically in the game. Oh well, someone gets points for originality.

Yeah, that's on my "RPG to play after I finish Lunar 2." I probably should have played the first one before the second one. Anyone play Grandia Extreme?
