More questions from Nataku

Postby Nataku » Tue Aug 10, 2004 12:05 pm

Hello everybody as some of ya know I got questions...again ^^6. Well first off, how are those conventions, the ones where its all for God of course, is it good? worth going? should I go if I have the chance?

Thats one thing now for another, I go to church every sunday, but my g/f goes almost everyday if not everyday, and she always asks me to go but I just dont feel right there for some reason I dont know why...anyways should I still go?

And finally, does it actually say in the bible to stay away from secular music?

Just a couple more questions from your fellow believer Nataku, plz answer. thanxs in advance.

Most Christian conventions are worth attending, especially if you go with a big church group. They have good speakers, good bands (if you like Christian music), and all sorts of merchandise that you might not be able to find elsewhere.

Unless you are actually employed by the church, then going there every day might be a big excessive. There is nothing wrong with it, but you certainly shouldn't feel that you are less of a Christian for not spending every moment in church. After all, the people who need Christ most are out in the world, not in church ]And finally, does it actually say in the bible to stay away from secular music?[/quote]
To my knowledge the Bible does not say anywhere that you must always avoid secular music. Although a lot of the more draconian Christian schools and colleges might ban it on campus, listening to secular music is not inherently sinful.

The answer also depends on your definition of "secular" music. If by secular, you mean anything other than worship albums and CCM (contemporary Christian music), then there is a lot of edifying music that you will miss. Although other artists may compose with the singular goal of glorifying God, that does not mean that you cannot listen to their music. Personally, I find it difficult to see how any music could lead you to sin. In that sense, music is different from other areas of culture, such as movies and television; but, if the music you hear is causing you to use a lot of foul language, for instance, it would probably be a good idea not to listen to the music in question.

I'm always happy to answer questions, so feel free to ask more if you have them :) .

Thanks for the answer, but hmm what can I do with my g/f. She feels like my family isnt blessed because we dont go to church alot like she does (doesnt help that my religion is catholic, Im a christian through and through) And I feel the reason she also doesnt feel my family is blessed is because my religion and not because of our faith but I could be wrong I dont know how she thinks I cant read her mind after all. I know its good to go to church but Im not much of a church gower, I go every sunday and love it, well thats how it is for me right now.

as far as going to church on a day besides sunday i would recomend it. i have found that my walk with the Lord stays stronger thru out the week. As far as every day going to the church every day of the week that is up to you. keep in mind though the God does want us to fellowship with fellow Christian whether it be in a church, in a house, or in some open area somewhere. the church is not the building but the body.

1 John 1
6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[1] sin.

Proverbs 27:17

she doesnt think your family is blessed? Just because you go to church less than her doesnt mean that your less of a believer than her. I guess its just her opinion but its still seems wrong to say your family is not blessed. Try asking her for her meaning by saying that.

i would have to say judging some one like that is something we have to stay away from (myself included)

james 4:11-12
11Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. 12There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you--who are you to judge your neighbor?

now thats a thought but they seem close so they can try to work this out because its possible that she didnt mean wat she said the way that most would interpret it (did that even make sense?) besides i help my friends with relationship stuff like this and it works out in the end. lol

You deffinetly have some things you seriously need work out with your girlfriend. First she feels like your family is not blessed...well going to Church more than obligated does not give her the right to make judgements on people like that. About the Catholic issue don't tell me she considers Catholics seperate from Christianity because that's the impression I'm getting here. I'm a Catholic as well and we are ALL Christians the same as any denomination.

You go to Church on Sunday and that is fine if you have the time to go more than that, yeah sure it would be a good thing to do. But don't let you're girlfriend try and force you to go more than obligated. God doesn't want going to Church to feel like a burden to you.

Lastly about the secular music...please don't tell me her pastor is doing the same with anime and saying that it is evil too. If that's the case find a new Chruch NOW.

I'm going to make a couple of huge generalizations now: Girls often make the mistake of thinking (subconsciously) that you should know what they're thinking or how they feel. Guys often make the mistake of not asking. :)

Ask her to clarify her thoughts to you. Ask specific questions, and tell her that you want to understand how she feels. Girls love it when you do that, anyway. ;)

If you're still not communicating well with each other, and she's still pressuring you to come to her church every day... try again to talk it out, explain to her how you feel, and if it still doesn't work... consider not having a girlfriend for a while. Sounds harsh, but you're still young, and life is too short for staying in a doomed relationship.

Well everything is good now, I went to her church it was nice to see everyone praying, it was a glorious feeling to see everyone praying, crying and singing to God (I was praying but I not a crying person or a singer so eh) it was all good, then the guest speaker called me to the front and told me I had talent and potential and such that was cool, then this lady said she saw me preaching in 20yrs on the tv...heh well I dont know about that but heh, anyways just one question when she came up to me she asked "do I want to accept jesus?"....I got mixed feelings from that....it felt as if she didnt believe that I was a believer....I just said yes and answered her questions and prayed. But would anyone else feel that way if that happend to them?

I think that that was extremely disrespectful, and if that happened to me, I would be deeply offended, regardless of what she may have been thinking at the time. It is even worse, because you were in a high-pressure environment (her church), and couldn't really say no.

Yeah I agree with cbwing the stuff I am hearing I'm not liking at all, and if it's making you this uncomfortable you need to clear these things up with her now.
