Nintendo of Amercia doesn't care about its fans -_-

Have a video game or or VG review? This is the place to to discuss it! We also accept discussions of board games and the like, but SHHH! Don't tell anyone, OK?

Seriously, lots of people have called/written in about Mother 1+2 coming to North Amercia, NOA still refuses to bring it here! I mean come on! How many fans have written/called in for the next Pokemon game? Whats with all the endless rehases of Pokemon coming here and refusing to bring Mother 1+2 I mean think about it, they release NES games for 20 bucks a piece and they won't even give Mother 1+2 a chance!

But no its not just Mother 1+2, its also their regristation program, sure they got EVERYONE hyped up with the Zelda disc, but what did we get after that? Screen savers.... PLEASE Nintendo of Japan offers many many gifts for registering a game! The Zelda disc is just one of several, I mean there is the Mario hat, Mario controler, a GBA color change, and much much more, REAL tangable items, not this screen saver crap we get here -_-

Tell me about it Vyse.........starting Augest 1st. Nintendo is EB's VOM (vendor of the month.....paid marketing). So i have to pimp those crappy rehashed pokemon games all day everyday totally telling people they rock, all the while i'll be crying inside.

i gave up on nintendo awhile ago because of the way they seem to do business in America. Gamecube gets shoddy ports from other systems, and once every 6 months or so a halfway-decent to good game........all the while GBA is milking the cash cow by releasing game after game in pieces........(spyro orange? crash purple? pokemon blue through pink ect)

i miss the SNES days when we actually got the good stuff =/

Actually I like a lot of Nintendo's first party Game Cube games, the thing is all NOA does is translate them, the games themselves are made in Japan.

You DO know what would happen if Mother 1+2 were released in the States right? Everyone in Europe and Australia would start crying for it and releasing games in Europe is a MUCH more difficult task than the US, seeing as it needs to be translated into a dozen different languages or so, which is a real pain for text heavy RPGs.

If ANYONE has the right to whinge it's us Europeans! We get the games 6 months late if ever. We're blown over for RPGs all the time. Sheesh its taking a couple of years to get Animal Crossing out here and it's still not out yet!

Seems to me this is a 'exclusive to Japan' thing.

In N. Ireland, you can

1. Import an american cube
2. Get an outlet adapter and transformer for the power supply
3. import the american games...

Also, why do they have to release it in multiple languages to release it in the UK or Ireland? I mean, it's not like they're going to release anything in Gaelic or Welsh, are they? I know, Iknow... The European games are usually in french and German too, but Doesn't the UK have their own branch of Nintendo?

No. UK doesn ot have it's own branch. We are considered part of Europe. If a game is to be released here it must be released in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the LOT

Because I don't know Jappense. Its pretty hard to play an RPG if you can't read whats going on.

That is indeed true. I've beaten a few that way, but it simply wasn't very much fun.

There may be many who would like to see the Mother series in America (including myself), but are there enough for it to be worth Nintendo's time? Certainly not more than the Pokemon craze, which will always be bought in bulk no matter how terrible or unoriginal the game may be (though the first was a unique premise and a decent game).

Same here...I gave up on Nintendo after the SNES days. It just didn't seem worth it to pay $70-$80 (wasn't the gold Zelda: Ocarina of Time cart $100?) for N64 carts that featured only slightly better graphics than $40 PS1 games, especially since the system had very few good games. Then comes the Gamecube, which was purposely made to lack the home entertainment features (i.e. dvd/cd player) that came standard on the PS2 and X-Box. And for what? The so called "hardcore gamers" that for some unknown reason, have an unhealthy fascination with children's games. As a result, it is no surprise that Nintendo is trailing Sony by a wide margin in both hardware and software sales in the console wars (and the GBA handheld monopoly is about the end with the PSP, so Nintendo is really going to have to get it's act together if it wants to remain competitive).

And don't get me started on Nintendo's utter disregard for online gaming. The last time I checked they had one online title (Phantasy Star Online), while Sony and Microsoft have dozens, with plenty more on the way. This probably explains why the next PSO game (Phantasy Star Universe) is rumored to be coming to the PS2 rather than Gamecube (about which I am most happy  ).

In my opinion, the problem with Nintendo is that they rely too heavily on useless novelties (minuature game discs, cute colors, GBA-GCN linkage, dual screens, touch screen, etc.) and first-party nostalgia at the expense of things that actually contribute to good games, such as online multiplayer capabilites, and good third-party titles. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing. If Nintendo ever goes the way of Sega, then we can all enjoy the Nintendo goodness without having to shell out for another Nintendo console just to play Nintendo games. Wouldn't that be great?

that would be lovely.

there are a few games I'd like to try that are Gamecube-only. the keyword here is "a few". meaning "not enough to justify me buying a Gamecube even though they're cheap now".

on a semi-offtopic note, I hear that Tales of Symphonia is coming to PS2 later on. any truth to that? (if so, yay!)

Considering that it was Nintendo who was heavily involved in the promoting, and funding the localization of the GC Tales of Symphonia, chances of the US getting the PS2 version are currently pretty slim.

We shall see however.
ToS seems to have done very well in the US on the GC, which is an RPG-starved system after all.

Why don't you lot just import a Japanese Mother 1+2?

First off, I was forgetting that Mother 1+2 was on GBA, and all GBA games can play in all GBA's... I don't think there is region lockout.

Anyhow, it isn't the same importing the Japanese game because most of us don't read enough Japanese to be able to enjoy it... Last I heard, most people in Ireland spoke English...

I had no clue that pal TV had a different shape than NTSC... It's just lucky for us that Japan is NTSC, hehehe... Of course, considering that the GBA has a different shape than both NTSC and PAL TVs,

Honestly, though... I don't see why the UK doesn't have its own branch of Nintendo. Until they went benedict arnold and joined mikrosssoft (yes, I'm a windows user... I try to avoid MS otherwise) Rare, a UK based company, was Nintendo's lover...

The problem I have with Nintendo is that there isn't enough focus on RPG games. The SNES was flooded with them.

I also have a problem with old games being revived and formatted on the GBA. Sure, people born in the late 90s may not know as much about the good ol' days of Mario madness. So games like Super Mario Bros DX and Super Mario Bros. 3 Advanced maybe new to younger players. But what about people who practicularly grew up with the Mario Bros.? I want some fresh ideas!! And Mario isn't the only Nintendo character created. They could build more on some of those other characters that they've created but didn't do much more with. *shrugs* I dunno, I'm not an actual employee of NoA so I don't know what they have to deal with.

But yeah, the rpgs were great back in the SNES days. Earthbound was among one of those great games. *sigh* O well...

Actually what I am against is porting SNES games to the GBA by themselves, I think they should just make collections of the Mario games, like they did with the Zelda bonus disc, so that way everyone would be happy.

I would think those would be quite popular, given how many people I know still like the original three Mario games, even. This includes a number of different generations. If Nintendo could be convinced these games would be popular (read as: would sell in bundles) I'm sure they'd do it...

And thank you for saying we know nothing about the gaming industry Volt that was so nice of ya.

We WERE saying that we just want Nintendo gives its Jappense custtomers, not what Nintendo needs to be sucessful.

NOT to mension The World's largest GirlGamers are coming, due to LINK's new game. FInal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is another hiyped up GC only game. Nintendo has a lot going. It's just that sometimes things don't work out.

The difference between Nintendo and Sony in this case is that Nintendo is only beginning to get these third-party titles at the end of its life (since new systems are roughly a year away). In contrast, the PS2 has had excellent third-party support throughout its life cycle. I would dispute your claim that Pikmin 2 is one of the "most anticipated games," while MGS: Twin Snakes and the RE games (minus 4) are simply glorified ports of games that have been available on Sony systems for years. Frankly, I do not consider those to be "killer apps."

Volt wrote:They need this and they need that. What?! You think it's easy. You think Nintendo doesn't want whats best? You can't just sit around talking smack, They need more 3rd party support. Do y'all even know what 3rd Party Support means?

Of course it isn't easy, but Nintendo brought these circumstances on themselves through past and present mistakes, such as failure to support online gaming, sticking with overpriced cartridges (N64) when everyone else was going to cds (cheaper and more storage), and insisting on useless GBA link capabilites for so long. They have more or less resigned themselves to catering to Nintendo purists and children. In response, 3rd-party developers (that is, game developers other than the console manufacturer or developers owned by the console manufacturer) took their titles to the largest markets, i.e. PS2 and XBox.

Of course it isn't over for Nintendo (as much as I would like that), but they have a lot of work to do if they are going to keep up with Sony and Microsoft.

In the future, Volt, I would appreciate it if you did not act as if you are the only person here who knows anything about games.

Volt wrote:Once again, it's not Nintendo's fault. That is the direction which the Rock of Fate chose to roll.

Then perhaps we should obey the whims of fate and abandon Nintendo :P .

Volt wrote:Pimin 2 is very anticipated on the GameCube, Twin Snakes is a remake available ONLY on the GameCube. And RE:remake, RE0, and RE4 are also Nintendo ONLY titles.

Would you say that Pikmin is anticipated in the same sense as Legend of
Zelda, Halo 2, or Metal Gear Solid 3? I think not. MGS: Twin Snakes is, as I said, merely a glorified remake of MGS for the PS1 with better controls and cutscenes. The same can be said of the RE remakes, although I will admit that I forgot about RE: 0. My point is that the original games have been out for years on Sony systems, so there is not much of a market for further PS2 remakes.

Volt wrote:But the whole n64 cartridge ordeal wasn't Nintendo's fault. Also the 3rd party support isn't nintendos fault either. During the PSone vs. N64 battle. All the 3rd party people that sony rounded up 120+ all stuck to Sony when the consoles advanced. Thus giving PS2 the promiced loyality it needed to be #1.

Once again, if Nintendo has all of this going against them, why bother with buying their next system? While Nintendo may have the support of a few 3rd-party developers (Capcom and Sega, although Sega is finally starting to support other consoles), they still cannot compare to Sony. This means that the only real attraction of a Nintendo system is nostalgia-inducing 1st-party titles like Mario and Zelda. Unfortunately for Nintendo, I am immune to nostalgia :P (hey...maybe that's what they'll name their next console  ).

I will comment on the other article when it is posted, although I will say here that I agree with you.

I prefer cartridges to CDs. Seriously. I HATE CD based consoles, absolutely despise them. Gamecube was ok for the most part as it's loading times were at least partly hidden. (Metroid Prime, the only majorly noticeable loading times was elevator scenes)

I loved the N64 and the SNES. I loved the near instant loading. The ability to save to the cart WITHOUT having to buy a new memory card every few months to keep up with the game buying.

------------

Just a question: Who really cares about 3rd party games? 90%+ of the time they suck horribly. Basing how well a console is doing on its 3rd party support is silly. 1st party and 2nd party produce much better games. There are exceptions to this. But most of the time a 3rd party game pales in comparisson to 1st party.

Tales of Symphona, the Lunar series, the Mega Man(X) series, Final Fantasy series(at least for the most part), Kingdom Hearts, Skies of Arcadia, the Sonic series, the Chrono Series, Star Ocean, and a ton of other games don't "suck" so yes as you can see, I care about 3rd party games. And PS2 lives off of 3rd party support.
