my sister is confused!

Postby twilight_tenshi » Mon Jul 26, 2004 9:54 pm

ok well, im not sure if this post in the right place or not but i have two requests. 1) pray for my sister and for my family. my sister is a lesbian and is convinced that she can be a Christian at the same time. and 2) if you can please give me some reasons why homosexuality is wrong other than 'because the Bible said'. I know its wrong but im having a bit of a hard time thinking of other reasons.... thanks so much!

Hi,
1. you got prayer.

2. I once heard it explained kind of like this. I don't know how good this is, but I hope it helps. Men and women were physiologically designed to reproduce a certain way. Sex was made as a way the a husband and wife could both be physically intimate and produce offspring. It is supposed to feel good to encourage this. This is how we were made. If we engage in homosexual behavor, then we are acting in rejection of God's plan for our bodies.

I believe that your sister can be a christian and a lesbian and much as any one else here who believes the same but is living in a way that perpetuates some kind of sin in their lives. I guess it's kind of like she can be saved by believing that Christ died for her, but she isn't walking the Christian life as she should. If anyoe knows better than this, please let me know.

No... I'm sorry... Struggling with sin is one thing, but when we condone it, we're trampling on grace and we are no longer under it. That is the primary difference... Doing things because we "messed up" and saying there's nothing wrong with it and making no effort to change are very different.

It wasn't homosexuality, but a man who was sleeping with his mother in law (I Corinthians, but I don't remember which chapter) was to be Excommunicated... Kicked out of the Church. Paul called it "given to satan" Note that this is not permanent (2 Corinthians orders them to take him back before he loses his faith) but to foster sin, to help it along and condone it, we are responsible for sending them to hell.

I'll pray that she'll realize this and at least start the journey to change.

I think this is quite serious, but will likely be locked becaue it'll attract trolls...

I'll pray. I also have some other things to say on the subject, but don't have the time right now to write out a detailed response.

I'll add my prayers my friend. I know people who've had the same struggle, so I can relate.
With your doubt, all is comfort
We are all as we appear
No more questions left unanswered
No more wonder, no more fear
Nothing is beauty, nothing's feeling
Blood where there once was a soul
So I ask you, prove yourself
Make me believe that you are whole

Sorry to hear your news :( , I have a older sister as well, and she changed alot after she went to collage. So Ill be praying for you. And about the other thing, Im not really sure what to tell you, but my friend and I were talking about Gay Rights, and she said, God made a MAN and a WOMEN and if he wanted us to be gay he would have made another MAN instead of a WOMEN. So I dont know if that will help but I will be praying.

What I meant on the second post was meant if the person was struggling with it rather than accepting sin as ok. I should have considered both in my reply. Bobtheduck is wise to point out the distinction.

I'll pray for your sister. It's hard to deal with someone living in sin willingly. Really hard. Especially when it's a close family member. But I would encourage you not to look for answers outside of the Bible to give to your sister to turn her from homosexuality. The Word of God is living and powerful, sharper than any double edged sword (big paraphrase there). But don't worry, the Bible has every reason anyone could want against homosexuality. It occured to me why exactly homosexuality is such an abominable thing to Christians and people who have strong moral standards. It's a misrepresentation. A man's relationship with a woman is a representation of Christ's relationship to the Church.

22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- 30for we are members of his body. 31"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." 32This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. 33However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Ephesians 5:22-33

I hope it was a help to you, I know it was long. Love your sister, hate the sin in her life.

Hey twilight_tenshi ,

For a Christian, the bible is basically every thing that we believe. So for her to omit its truth’s and still think she can be a Christian is sadly mistaken.

But if she wants another reason, just have her look around her self. In all of Gods creation there are no instances of homosexuality. Male Lions don’t seek out other Male lions as mates, even plants have two sexes, both distinctly different and never do they mix. (well, they cant)

Only humans could come up with something so perverse and wrong. Its not genetic, you can help it (just like any other sin), and it is very wrong. If homosexuality was even close to being ok, don’t you think God would have created our bodies with that possibility in mind? Take a good look, that doesn’t really seam to be the case, does it?

So if your sis refuses to learn from the teachings of the bible, maybe she can learn from the example set by the entire world around her.

I will pray for her and the rest of your family.

-kaji

By the way, you are not judging your sister by loving her, and trying to show her the truth. After all, it seams obvious that you really love her and just want the best for her.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

syreth, the reason why im looking for reasons outside the Bible is because that answer just wont work with her. i know it truth that the Bible is powerful but sometimes people just wont accept the it because thats not THEIR belief. thanks to all who have helped out and are praying so far....~twilight~

I guess what I meant by my post is to give her reasons why the Bible says what it does, and not just saying, "The Bible says so." Even though that answer should work for any Christian. Forgive me if I came off as mean or anything by my post, I just wanted to help you out. But for sure, I will continue to pray. That's the best thing.

A couple of points. First, if your sister says she's a Christian, why does she think that homosexuality is perfectly compatible? If she's Christian, she should be following the Bible's guidelines for living her life, and the only appeal you should have to make is to the Bible's teachings about homosexuality.

Second, she says her sexuality doesn't define who she is, but she is the one who defines herself as a lesbian. Also, make it clear to her that you are not judging her, but are concerned about her soul--she may think that she's being true to God, but God does not condone homosexuality. He wants us to love one another, but that does not mean that we are to turn a blind eye to sin. Particularly what might accurately be described as a "sin that leadeth unto death" (to quote 1 John 5:16,17), since it is described in 1 Corinthians 6:9 as a practice of those who won't inherit the kingdom of God. (Note that the verbs here are in the continuous tense in the Greek, which makes it clear that the only ones who are damned for these practices are the unrepentant--i.e., those who practice these continuously.)
To all, life thou givest, to both great and small.
In all life, thou livest, the true life of all.
We blossom and flourish as leaves on a tree
And wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.

As a friend once said that sums it up quite nicely:

God made Adam and Eve, NOT Adam and Steve.

I'll pray.
