Why do these threads always show up?

It’s almost guaranteed that every couple months a new “Worst way to dieâ€
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

*ahem* Chinese water torture. I have been through this. This... is... annoying.

Now for my real entry... ehm.. maybe i shouldn't post my real entry. It is very gruesome. Okies... here's one...

Being blown up by a gas tank gone mad, and left with all skin burnt off. (Had a youth pastor who had a friend that that really happened to.)

O_O skin being burnt off...NICE! Well, I would have to say dying without knowing God would be the most terrifiying thing that would have happened to me, but now that I am with God, I do not fear death because spiritually, we will not die. "Nobody will face death without facing God first" - I do not remember where that verse is but it is one of my favorites.

When I saw, "The Ring", that scared the crap out of me. Being water-logged, meaning your skin and muscles slowly dissintegrate because of too much water, rotting flesh, clear dead eyes, and a skinny boned body, looks like a pretty freaky way to die. Am I freaking anyone out yet?

panegryst wrote:this sort of morbid thing shows up because people have a fascination/fear of death and dying. Since death is so important, and what comes after even more so, it's natural to wonder about death. If you think about it, the most important parts of life all are connected to or have danger of death: childbirth, war, exploration, etc. Of course, deciding how you would most NOT like to die will probably get you nowhere.

I would dissagree. Our death's are not important, our focus should not be dieing, but what we should do while we are alive. Though an eternity wich God after we die is a great thing, it should not be our focus either. Rather, heaven is a biproduct of our salvation. 'Where' we go isnt so important as that we will be with God.

Further more I do not believe that Childbirth, war, and exploration are the most important parts of being alive. Infact, many people never even participate in these things durring they're lifes span.

The most important part of being alive it to bring Glory to God.
If those things mentioned can help you do that, then great, but they alone are not what is more important about our life here.

Yes, I do agree with you that this type of thread probably comes from peoples facination or fear with death. But that does not make it a significant part of our purpose as Christians.

I don't agree. Christianity tells us that death is very important. While atheism and evolution (and Cowboy Bebop, j/k) indicate that death is 'not a big deal' or even beneficial, Christianity says that A) the death of a person is very serious due to our being made in God's image and B) when you die, you will either enter the presence of God or be deprived of His presence. Death is the big moment, the last chance, the final reckoning. (I agree that our focus should not be on death, however.)

While it is true that the vast majority of people do not directly participate in wars, childbirth, or (scientific/land) exploration, nearly all the energies of GROUPS are directed towards (or away from) these things. They affect our (worldly) lives the most out of any experience - even if only indirectly.

Explanation 1: everyone is born. Every person alive (and doubly so for mothers) is deeply affected by at least their own childbirth. Childbirth, in fact, is the second most important part of group survival (1st: food; 2nd: pop. growth; 3rd: security). Without new members through childbirth, the group will die.

Explanation 2: War (or rather, the pursuit of security) is the single biggest consumer of lives, energy, and resources throughout history other than disease. Without security, order collapses and survival is seriously endangered. You can see this at work even today in Iraq and Cechnya: due to lack of security, violence and crime run rampant and risk toppling whatever structure is left. Security is the third most important factor in group survival (first is food, second is population growth), and even in peacetime vast energy is used to maintain armed forces and diplomatic relations, not to mention the staggering effort put into research and development of war-and-security related materials.

This brings us to...
Explanation 3: Exploration of scientific possibilties and methods, while only a tertiary concern compared to the two factors just discussed, is still extremely important - even more so now that food and security is (mostly) guaranteed for developed nations. In fact, research and science occupations employ more workers than any other area except services (which should tell you something about how secure and well-fed we truly are). Computer scientists, chemists, biologists, architects, engineers and others who deal with finding new ways to use information and physical resources are the backbone of every technological achievement, grand structure, and communications breakthrough that allow us to live in the level of comfort that we do. In short, new technologies (and the pursuit of them) greatly affect the health, safety, and comfort of everyone alive.

I would like to note that these affect our wordly lives. Our spiritual lives are, of course, ruled by Christ; it is in the hope of salvation and the recognition of morality that provide meaning and purpose in life, not any of these temporal things. We ignore the worldly things I mentioned to our physical deaths; We ignore Christ to our spiritual and eternal death. The spiritual will always be more important than the physical for those who know Christ.

"The Ring"- the movie that that has the wrong rating. It is rated PG-13 for violence :shady:...IT SHOULD BE R, scary scenes that will give you nightmares and such.

Oh, did any of you know they are coming out with a 2nd Ring called "The Ring Two"...fun fun, who wants to go watch it, I do not...but of course, my sense of wanting to get scared will want me to see it...stupid senses :shady:

Yes that movie scared me :o All my friends was talking about "ah it's not a scary movie it's a mystery"--NO, it's a scary movie :shady: But I will say it was good.

A second one? I've heard rumors but I didn't think it would actually happen. The first one was bad (as in scary) enough. Hey...
How about that man who electrocuted himself? He had a whole entertainment system! Man, he wanted to make sure he died. But poor Samara :sniffle: she was still alive...That's the most horrible death I've witnessed on television.
I totally agree Golden.

spoiler from the movie wrote:I could not believe what Samara's father did and shock himself so much blood spewed off the tub. There is one thing that made me lose my mind was the tape at the beginning, I was so lost, and watching that thing made my stomach cringe...a nail going through a finger, a burning tree, dead horses, and...OH!...the hair coming out of some guys throat, that was completely gross. I cannot explain how whacked out that tape is...*eyes widen*...absolutly disturbing...

What if:

You're a non-Christian, you get burned at the stake BUT survive, then you are SLOWLY sawed in half while your lungs are shut off so that you're also slowly suffocating.
