Bleach

Who reads?

I picked up the first volume a little less than a month ago. It's a relatively new(started in 2001) but popular, Jump series that doesn't even have an anime version yet.

I liked the art style and the storyline and characters are certainly interesting.

Comments? Criticism? Thoughts on this manga? Anyone?

I've never hear of it. What's it about?
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Disclaimer: I write based on what I remember vaguely from Volume 1-3 so do help me out, anyone, if I missed something.

It's about a guy who has the special ability to see ghosts and spiritual stuff. (Actually almost his whole family can do it too). One day, he meets a female Soul Reaper (someone like a Shinigami) and encounters monstrous "Hollows" who are attracted to his strong spiritual powers. Under circumstances she's forced to lend him her powers but somehow, he ended up absorbing all her Soul Reaper powers and now, he reluctantly (haha) accepts his role as a Soul Reaper.

I personally like the series. The characters are wacky, entertaining and have depth. There are strong spiritual elements that may bother some of you. It's not as heavy as Shaman King (IMHO) but it's there anyway. They don't really talk about Heaven or Hell Christians know but rather focus more on restless souls and helping them find peace. The spirituality is mostly non-christian but not necessarily anti-christian.

There will also be blood, tragic scenes, freaky situations (some stupid characters fool around with evil spirits, ignorant of the dangers ^^;;; ), terrifying monsters, spiritual gadgets (?), some minor cussing, one female character with big busts and another a female character that tends to get to close to another female. ^^;;; If you can overlook that, it's really a good shonen title.

Good shonen action, touching moments, great characters, lovely art, humor, good plot...I think Bleach is a good series and would recommend it to those who are not bothered by non-Christian Spirituality and certain elements I've mentioned here. If you can handle Yu Yu Hakusho and Shaman King, you're most likely be able to handle this.

Um, what Mave said. ^^

I'm probably going to collect this series as well, it's entertaining and Kubo Taito has a very punkish style of art. Decent battle scenes, and actually not as fanservice-y nor violent as one would think--even YYH have way more gore and violence to stomach.

All in all, yeah, what Mave said. XD

I read the first volume, and enjoyed it enough that I would pursue any further volumes I could get my hands on.

As Psycho Ann, I felt that the battle scenes were decent and relatively not gory, compared to all that is available. I like the art style overall, but rarely criticize art, so that is mostly irrelevant. At a few times it accomplished "vaguely amusing" status, which is about as good as a manga can do in my mind, humor-wise. It will be interesting to see how the story progresses...

I don't really know much about Bleach. All I have read was in the shonen jump preview episode. I liked the sound of it. :)

It looks interesting, but a lot of anime looks interesting.. Hmm. . . . I suppose if a friend of mine gets into it, I will too.

Edit: oops edited the wrong post. .. ..
