Please pray for my Papa

Postby GzusRcks » Wed Jul 07, 2004 12:38 pm

My Papa's 85 years old and lives by hisself because my grandma died 5 years ago. Well he's been doing pretty good to be as old as he is, I mean he gets around with a cane and whatnot, but just out of the blue he fell last night and split his head open. My uncle went to his house because he has a necklace with a button on it that he can press when he needs help, and my uncle took him to get stitches for it. Well today when my aunt went and checked on him because theres 8 kids and everyday one spends the day and cookes etc. and he didn't know where he was or who she was and then he had a stroke. He has just been admitted in the hospital and is on oxygen and a respirator and not doing good at all. They almost lost him once, and we're alternating nights to stay with him. He was called to be a preacher when he was 17 and has preached up til about 20 years ago. His dad was a preacher and built the church that my papa preached at that he lives 2 houses down from, in the 1920s. It was recently renovated and I think that's awesome how many lives he has affected and how it has lived on. He's the greatest man I know, I've never heard him say a cross word, he always is in a postive attitude and he's truly a role model and awesome guy. He was a farmer since he was a kid and married my grandma when she was 15 and he was 18 and they were together 62 years. He really needs prayer and I just wanted to ask if you guys would pray for him and my family. He's been really depressed lately and I don't think he's gonna be around much longer, so please, just a small prayer would be great. Thanks!

I'm praying, Hann. I can tell you love your Papa very much. I know it's always a blessing to have great spiritual mentors in your life (as my Dad has been mine), so I can only imagine what it'd be like to think about losing one.

Please keep us updated.

thanks guys. yes, it's good to know that when it is his time to go that he's going to a way better place, so I can at least be reassured by that.

well, I have an update. The doctors still don't fully know what's wrong with him, but they know he has low sodium and because of that, it's affecting his way of thinking and talking. My mom stayed with him last night and said that he talks out of his head a lot, talking about picking collards, moving the tractor away from a muddy spot, picking the weeds out of the fields, fixing the truck, getting the kids in before it rains, and frequently asking about going home. He's tried to get out of the bed numerous times, and pulled his IV out twice, and it's just a mess. He doesn't know what's going on at all, and is hardly getting any sleep. One of my aunts is taking it pretty bad and is all to pieces about it. It's tough but we're hanging in there and keeping him safe as best as we can. The doctors gave him some medicine so that he'll get some rest and that seems to be working a little, as he sleeps a bout a half hour at a time. He looks really bad and not doing really good, so I'm continuing to fervently pray for him and God's will for his outcome.

Thanks guys for all the prayers! You guys are truly a blessing and I love each of you. I'll continue to keep you updated, and please continue praying. God works in awesome ways, and whatever the outcome, I know it's Gods will and Papa'll spend eternity in Heaven with my grandma, which is what he's been striving for since he was 4 and gave his heart to God.

It's so wonderful to find joy in such an otherwise trying time, simply because your papa has the Lord in his life. I'll continue to pray for him.

Well here's a quick update on my Papa:

He's been transferred to the ICU unit and yesterday they called all the family in for a 'code blue' because they lost him. After bringing him back they put him in ICU and my family has been staying all night and all day in there, just waiting around. We can only go see him every 3 hours and today I stayed 6 1/2 hours there and go to see him at 3 and at 6 pm. He looks so bad, hes got tubes all in his nose and running down his arm and in his neck. His mouth is sunken in and he can't hardly breathe. He tries to talk but it doesn't come out right and he's frustrated by it. Whenever we're fixing to leave because time's up and we try to explain to him that we're right down the hall if needed and can't stay in the room, he just clings to our hand and tears run down his face. It's so bad, everyone's a wreck. My aunts and uncles hardly talk, everyone just stares off in space, eyes watery. I sat in a chair in the corner and just cried and cried for the longest time. He's just so helpless and I found myself praying "Jesus, if he can't get any better, I know he'd go to a better place... so if it's Your will, please take him with You and let him reunite with my grandma." and thats the hardest prayer to have to pray but I can't stand seeing him suffer so much. The nurses have run every test imaginable and can't figure out whats wrong with him, and they ran a tube down his nose for medicine and nutrients for food and have given him neither of them because they're "waiting for the doctor." It's really discouraging and we're thinking about moving him to another hospital because of it. Just please please pray for my family and my Papa because we all really really need it. Everyones been staying up all night and all day, running home to shower and get a quick nap, then running back to stay again because no one wants to leave his side.
One good outcome of it all is my Uncle Tony. I love him to death but he has a huge problem with drugs and alcohol and smoking. He's the sweetest guy in the world and would give you anything in the world, but taking drugs and drinking has turned him from God. Well he was there alone when my pastor and his wife came to visit my grandpa, and Tony was so impressed with them and their actions and has truly changed around. He's not totally out of drugs and alcohol and stuff, but hes seriously beginning to lay off of it. Papa's condition has torn him to pieces and he won't even go in the room anymore because he collapses on the ground, crying for hours on end about it, then goes to the outside of the hospital to smoke it off.

So please continue your prayers and I'd just like to thank all of you for the prayers you've already prayed for my family and grandma. It's really appreciated and I love each of you for it. Thanks so much you guys!
