Jealousy and Uncertainty

Postby Golden_Griff » Thu Jul 01, 2004 12:39 pm

I'm not sure if I'm asking for prayer or for someone to listen to me whine...

Anyway, I'm going through some emotions right now concerning my college education. For my first two years my tuition was pretty much paid for. But I've had a few scholarships taken from me (nothing bad) and now I'm kind of short of what I need to finance my education. Compared with the total cost to attend college it's not a lot but compared to my family's financial status it's a cause for concern. I called my school today to see if there were any other scholarships that I could apply/qualify for. I was told that I could write a letter and make a request to my major's department head but actually that sounds to me like a "no." :banned:

In addition to being concerned about my educational future I am also battling with jealousy: my roommate from my freshman year has been able to go to college for free (so far). In addition, I learned from a campus event that she was given recognition for receiving another special scholarship (it was for English or something). The reason why I feel jealous is because (in my opinion) she doesn't deserve these scholarships that she's getting; despite how much I tried to be her friend she just made me miserable and nearly ruined my reputation, talking about me behind my back (and smiling in my face), etc., etc. She doesn't even take her free education seriously. I've tried to be more forgiving towards her, especially since I've noticed that I dislike her just as much now than when I actually roomed with her. But the anger is still there. :comp:

Anyway, I know that I should rely on God and not man. God has done things in my life before but I'm still (slightly) worried. Even when I try not to admit it the thought still lingers in the back of my mind.

Well, I guess I am asking for prayer. Please pray that God works this situation out and that my jealousy/anger towards my former roommate will be transformed into forgiveness.

I'll pray for you. Keep in mind that we can't change others, but we can change our responses to them, and how we see them. Try to see your old roommate as God sees her. Also, you might consider transferring colleges if there is another nearby that is cheaper. I did after my scholarship got taken away, and honestly, it's even cheaper now going to a public university than it was going to a private university with a scholarship. I'm praying for you GG.

Thanx ya'll. My attitude on the situation has switched back over to a more positive outlook. I'm not claiming defeat yet!

Thank you Kevin. I'm trying REAL hard to change my attitude towards my former roommate, esp. since she happens to be friends with one of my own very good friends so I can't help but see her every now and then. But it's getting better, VERY slowly but surely. I even still pray for her every once in a while.

As far as transferring goes, well, I thought about it but I would really hate to make that move. There are public schools in my state that are SO much cheaper but I've gotten so used to my current school. And I don't think commuting would be a good choice either. I'm praying that God will allow me to stay where I am.
