Bikinis *sigh*

Talk about anything in here.

Bikinis *sigh*

Postby Kawaiikneko » Thu Jun 24, 2004 12:24 pm

I finally got the chance to shop for a swimsuit yesterday and it was so frustrating! Is anyone else annoyed that the ONLY type of bathingsuit now besides a one piece is a bikini? All Target and Old Navy had for juniors/women was bikinis. And besides the prints on them, they were all basically the same. Halter, string tie in the back, and 2 triangle things. Are they assuming we won't actually be swimming? Maybe jumping in the pool? Diving perhaps?

Okay, but seriously, I really wish there had been at least ONE tankini. Or at least something thats meant for swimming, not tanning. :stressed: *sigh* I still have Kohls... and the rest of the mall. But I doubt it'll be better.

Anyone else have problems with this? I'm only 14 and I don't want to show my body off that way.

Try Wal-mart. ^^
Everything's at Wal-mart!
You can find some pretty cute one-pieces, too...I got one for twenty bucks at Ross.
Then again, I'm only twelve...but I still get people staring at me in my one piece.
I'm a little tall for my age, and that picture I posted was from a couple of years ago. I wonder what guys would say if I told them that I'm a twelve year old girl...

Try a Khol's or Goodies. They gererally stock a pretty diverse selection of swim wear. You also should try you local department stores: Dillard's, Sears, ect.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Gr! I hate bikinis. They're one of the many reasons I hate the beach. Maybe one day girls will decide that one, tanning is not smart, and two, they value their bodies enough to keep it to themselves.
*sigh* Yes, but do check Goody's. I got both of mine there but they may not have much this late in the season. You should probably con your mom into taking you a bit earlier if possible. ^_^;;
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

I'm going to Panami City Beach next Friday (not tomorrow) and hopefully I can sneak my sword along, feh..(I must have some stupid wish to get arrested...) but anyway, I'm not looking to forward to it. I can't STAND girls who just like to *ahem* strut around and show their stuff. I prefer the more modest ones...not that I care much now, anyway. The Kiritsukeru no Okami Ryuu is more important to me. Try Walmarts, or JC Pennys maybe. What about Dillards or Gayfers?

the problem doesnt stop at swimsuits... it's hard to find anything conservative now adays... especially if you're female. everything in stores are skintight shirts that show your midriff and tight pants/shorts. i dread shopping for clothes now.

While you are right on a certain level, speaking as a Christian, as men are affected more by visuals than women, you christian girls need to adjust your attire to look out for your brothers. I'd love to explain why it's not merely some sort of outdated sexist thing to have a different standard for women's dress than for men's, but it would really go against the rules of this forum. There is reason for it spiritually in confines of American culture (where it wouldn't be in some other cultures) and there is some reason psychologically and biologically. If you want details of what I mean, you can PM me.

As to the original message: So there are only bikini's and one pieces? If you don't want that extra exposure, choose the one piece. They stock what's in style, and what will sell. Obviously the tankini's aren't popular anymore. Not meaning to sound rude, but live with it or go to goodwill and look for some older tankinis.

Also, as for the other clothes, you can always buy men's shirts... I mean, you will never had trouble finding a guy's shirt that fits, just get used to looser stuff since you wanted conservative to begin with. Guy's shirts are virtually never stretchy, so you don't have to worry about showing too much off... Ever... As for pants that will fit the hippier ladies, well... I can't help you there, unless you just want to buy larger size ladies pants, but I don't know if that will work... It may hang weird, or something...

Its all the fault of the major corporations who try to control us. THEY have the money, THEY have the material for making clothes, so THEY decide whats popular and god forbid someone tries to wear something thats unpopular but practical. It was the same thing when they had those blujeans that had removable sleeves. They were so convienent. You couldhave the sleeves on in the morning when its cold, and later when it gets hot, just ake the sleeves off. But forsome strange reason, they companies tat made themall decded that they were'nt popular anymore, therefore they stopped making them. Its all corrupt corporations trying to control us.

I know this is off topic, but have you seen the una-booboo episode of "Harvey Birdman: Attourney At Law"?

Companies follow the public, and their pushing of certain things is only in a direction that they feel the public would have gone anyhow. It's a study of psychology, and I think the fact they still exist shows that they are correct in their thinking.

There are independent clothing designers out there... My friend dresses very conservatively, and she has incredible style. It works and it's not tight or considered sexy (though, to be honest, many view conservative as sexy... ) Of course, she buys her clothes from special places. This probably isn't a choice for many of you, unless you live near a lot of hippies or in a commune or something. It may be worth finding specialty tailors and clothing outlets that will supply more conservative attire.

Yeah maybe Walmart will have something. You could also try a sports store.

I had the same problem but not with bathing suits. With pants. Everything is cut low and/or hip-huggers.

And has anyone noticed shirts? The sleeves are cut all wrong! I can't even move my arm all the way up!

Yeah, I hate shopping now. Either the clothes are too revealing, or they look horrible. There are no tasteful clothes anymore. *sighs* I can either go to school in skimpy clothes, feeling terribly self-conscious, or go to school in odd clothes and have people raise eyebrows at me. You just can't win.

On the subject of feeling self-concious about being modest: you don't HAVE to notice the people looking at you when you wear long sleeved shirts and jeans that cover your butt. I know it's difficult for some people, and I admit I have a rather unhealthy amount of self-security, but you can ignore rude glances. As long as you know you're dressing the way you feel comfortable dressing and as long as you're respecting the Lord's temple, then you're golden. ^^

If you want to dress conservatively, there's nothing wrong with that. You're honoring God and respecting yourself by keeping things covered up. I'm not saying wear turtlenecks all the time or anything, but you know. Be tasteful. Who cares if people don't like it? It's not their business o_O

I"m with volt. america's one of the few places where people feel it necessary for girls not to go topless. I'm in europe right now, and nobody cares about these things. people are comfortable enough with their bodies. bikinis aren't there just to look sexy.

I can't remember where I heard this, but nudity hasn't always been an issue. back in the middle ages, nobody cared. people only wore clothes out of practicality, since it was colder back then. then along came the folks who insisted on covering up everything. tablecoths on tables had to go all the way to the floor because they didn't want to expose the legs of the tables. why were they so obsessed? according to my physics teacher, it's because people were getting uglier and uglier (although I'm sure not everyone would agree with her...). beaches have always been a place where these taboos of idecent exposure don't apply. anyway, we've gradually been getting out of this craze. or at least the europeans have. in north america, we come closer and closer to nudity, but when it gets beyond the little barrier, everyone's offended. just look at janet jackson's little stunt.

*is glad he isn't the only one who didn't know...*

Hmm... I'd have to side with the "do what you feel is appropriate" on this one. I have a much easier time talking WITH a girl who is wearing looser (modest) clothes. If they are too skimpy, etc, I begin to have to watch where my eyes are at all times. That makes it difficult to carry on a normal conversation. Observe this real life example (translation, he made it up just now):

Cute Girl in Modest Clothes: So, what do you think about systematic theology?
OldPhil: *bores everyone to tears*

Cute Girl in Skimpy Clothes: So, what do you think about systematic theology?
OldPhil: *studdying tree in opposite direction* It's fine, thanks for asking.
CGiSC: Isn't that an endangered bird in that tree?
OldPhil: *panics* AAAAaaaaaa! *runs away*
