Hmm...interesting, to say the least...however...

I'm slightly upset at the fact that everyone wants to make video game system into cool DVD and CD players. That annoys me. They're video game systems, that's what they were MADE to do. Did you ever see the Atari with a record player fused into it?

The reason why they do that is to make money...

Nintendo Barely makes money on the GameCube, because the price has had to be lowered so much, why? cuz it's just a console.

The reason why companies add in extra features is so that they can jack up the price of their console sales. Adding DVD and CD player capabilities costs them very little, but they can charge more for it.

Sony's PS3, even at $600 retail price would make sony loose a lot of money, considering the billions of dollars they put into the project. Consoles don't really make much money, All that advance technology and yet eveyone wants a lower price.(around $100) so the extra features are added. If PS2 didn't have CD and DVD player capabilities then the PS2 would be $79 bucks right now.

That annoys me. They're video game systems, that's what they were MADE to do. Did you ever see the Atari with a record player fused into it?

[i]Why does is bother you so much anyway? I mean a few extra features won't hurt. Besides Sony is making a striped down version of the PS3 anyway...

So CAA should get rid of chat, the arcade, the reviews, and PMs, and just be a forum?

That'll be interesting, since they're in fact more like Macintoshes internally than PCs (which makes me marginally more attracted to them -- after all, I did buy a Dreamcast, which runs Windows CE inside, but on a Hitachi SuperH3 CPU).

Dude...don't mess with me...I've been playing video games since most of the younger members around here were in diapers and drooling.

Bringing CAA into this has nothing to do with video game systems.

Hardcore gamers need no bells. We need no whistles. All we need is gaming power. And that's what the Gamecube gives. But then you have the money-grubbers like Microsoft and Phony...Sony....and they don't really care about gaming. They have other things to worry about. But Nintendo doesn't have to worry about selling computers, or any other electronic crap like stereos. They're a pure gaming company, and I admire that. I think only Nintendo deserves to have a gaming system out there, because they're the only ones focusing soley on their duty. Nintendo has always made excellent games at decent prices. PS2 and Xbox can shove it up their collective noses. Nintendo ain't in it for the money. Of course they're a business. Of course they have to charge money and give the other competitors a run for their money. But Nintendo's in it for the fans.

Thank you, Vyse. You just made me hate my PS2.

You didn't get my point then, CAA has extra features that aren't needed, but make it a more enjoyable experiance.

Hardcore gamers need no bells. We need no whistles. All we need is gaming power. And that's what the Gamecube gives.

As I said before, CAA doesn't need all the extra features either, it just makes it more enjoyable.

Thats your opinion, and I'm going to leave it at that.

Nintendo has always made excellent games at decent prices
.

Actually most new Game Cube games start out the same price as most new Xbox or PS2 games O_o, in fact, Sony's Greatest Hits line starts at 20, while Nintendo's starts at 30.

Thank you, Vyse. You just made me hate my PS2.

Once again, chill dude, I didn't make you hate anything, you chose to hate your PS2 don't go blaming that on me. And if you hate your PS2 just because it has a DVD player, then you should look at why your playing games, PS2 has some great games on it, if a DVD player is blocking your view of that then you should really re think why your playing games.

Nintendo Barely makes money on the GameCube, because the price has had to be lowered so much, why? cuz it's just a console.

thats bogus. They didnt drop the price because its 'just' a console but because theyve already got what they needed out of it! The Gamecube hit mass production before it was even in Europe! It allowed me to get one at £150 only a month or two after its release.

The X-Box is a PC trying to be a console.
The PS2 is a console trying to be a PC
The Gamecube is the only thats happy being as it is.

Next thing you know you'll see upgradeable consoles, adding extra graphics chips and bigger hard drives and having to install a new processor in it to run the best games. Everyone will have to keep track of what their system specs for their consoles are and have to see what each game requires before they buy it.

I'm not against extras on consoles. But it's going too far. What arguments are used to diss the Gamecube?

1. No DVD Player
2. No Hard drive

Thats pathetic. You can't judge a gaming console based on a DVD Player! You judge them by their games! What noteworthy single format games has MS and Sony produced?

X-Box has only a few noteworthy games like Halo. But they're no longer exclusive to that format.

PS2 only has a few as well like Final Fantasy, but most of them are going multi-format as well.

Lets look at Nintendo now *deep breath* - Mario, Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, Harvest Moon, Pokemon the list goes on.

Another thing about all those games. THE MAJORITY ARE DONE BY NINTENDO THEMSELVES! X-Box and PS2 live off other companies. they thrive off 3rd party games. If the 3rd parties stopped producing games, both those consoles would die a horrid death while Nintendo would live on as they don't rely on 3rd party games. They're capable of making their own games.

But Nintendo's in it for the fans.

That is the exact reason why Nintendo are releasing the realistic Zelda game. (rumoured to be the sequel to Ocarina of Time but I dunno if thats true or not)
They're releasing it cause fans asked for it.... ok they pined and whinged for it!
I am the Reaper of Souls... and it's harvest time.

Zilch, I'm not saying these things meanly. I just slightly disagree with you on some points.

Zilch wrote:Hardcore gamers need no bells. We need no whistles. All we need is gaming power.

The main purpose is the games. I don't know anyone who bought a PS2 or XBox just for the DVD/CD player features. But those consoles play the standard sized disks. Why not take advantage of that and add a bit to it, you know? For some people, that was just enough to sway them to get a PS2. I still bought a GCN, but I do think it would have been kinda cool to be able to play other media with that console.

Zilch wrote:But Nintendo doesn't have to worry about selling computers, or any other electronic crap like stereos. They're a pure gaming company, and I admire that. I think only Nintendo deserves to have a gaming system out there, because they're the only ones focusing soley on their duty.

I've heard quite a few people express that view. I don't totally agree with it, but you're definitely not the only person to believe that. =)

Zilch wrote:Nintendo has always made excellent games at decent prices. PS2 and Xbox can shove it up their collective noses. Nintendo ain't in it for the money. Of course they're a business. It seems like PS2 games are generally cheaper, but maybe I'm mistaken.
The fan thing, though... I'm not so sure. Earthbound fans aren't too pleased with Nintendo over how that franchise has been handled in America. A ton of people want Nintendo to go online. It isn't yet. The realistic Zelda is coming, yes. But, that was an artistic choice to reflect the mood of the game. The WindWaker was also an artistic choice. They're big on the artisitc/creative aspect of making games. Maybe I feel differently than you do about the fan aspect because I haven't been pleased with some things, while you generally have been. I'm kinda picky with some things, though, so that could be my own fault.

Edit: Vyse has a good point. That Zelda disk is awesome. That was a great deal. [/edit]

I really do like Nintendo products. I'm not bashing their work. I prefer their console and games and other things, actually. But I don't dislike Sony or Microsoft because of that.

I'm surprised that Microsoft's next console is being released that soon. I guess if they're just upgrading the thing, it doesn't need as much time? PS2 was released a while before GCN and Xbox, though, and it's still very successful. This maybe could work out for Microsoft. I still don't think I'll buy it, though. My money's gonna be spread out enough with Nintendo's consoles and portables and DS and games for that and PS2 and all. =)

Ehhhh. I'll tell ya, the one thing that pushed my boyfriend to buy the PS2 is because he didn't have a DVD player (and we kinda wanted a PS2 anyway).

Some of the extra features are nice to have. Still, I don't think consoles should turn into PCs. That's a little bit ridiculous.

Nintendo...:\ Let me just say that I think they could do better. I don't wanna spend another 100 dollars on a console just so I can play the Nintendo games. -_- There aren't enough Gamecube-exclusive titles -that I'm interested in- to warrant me buying the console.

Well... Nintendo can't really control what 3rd parties publish for it or not, but Skies of Arcadia Legends, the Sonic Mega Collection, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, and hopefully the upcoming Tales of Sympohica are all wonderful exclusive US 3rd party titles

As for noteworthy X-box, and PS2 games, I would suggest you go to sites like gamerankings.com and look it up for a change. Both systems have had tons of wonderful games. Off the top of my head: KOTOR, Disgaea, Steel Battalion, Ratchet and Clank, Ninja Gaiden, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Crimson Skies, etc, etc, etc.

The real question for Nintendo fans is what good games did they produce for the shamecube that arent just a minor upgrade and some new graphics and why did Nintendo fumble so poorly in dealing with the online part of play? Some of us can only stand to play the same game over again for so long and like playing games online.

Agreed.

Donesh, using "Jesus" as an interjection is an inadvisable idea. Think about the board you are on. Also, being a bit less inflammatory in your commentary would be a wise course of action. Words well spoken do not need to be aggresive.

Meanwhile, I am relatively unfamiliar with the Gamecube's full array, but:

Super Smash Brothers Melee: minor upgrade it is not. The ridiculous number of characters and Event mode set this game apart.

Metroid Prime: if you compare this to the SNES games, it seems that some work has been done.

I personally don't care for online gaming, I guess thats why I love a Game Cube so much, and Metroid online wouldn't exactly work O_o

Skies of Arcadia Legends, sure yeah, its a port of a Dreamcast game, but its never come out on a Nintendo system before, plus its been upgraded and has seveal additional side quests.

Now before everyone starts yelling "fanboy!" I have a PS2, and I mostly use it for RPGs(all offline) and watching anime O_o And if it wasn't for backwards compatablty and DVD playing, I would consider my GCN better, but with the upcoming Mega Man collection(in addtion to the other two collections that I have because I love old school games), Legend of Zelda, Metroid Prime 2, and Tales of Symphonia, that position just might change.

But then of course, this is all opinion, no need for name calling and consle bashing You like something better? Fine! Thats great! But keep in mind people have different tastes, lets respect one another okay?

Hmm. Sardonic tone and repetition do not a post make. Your previous point stands without being restated.

First off, I stated, if not explicitly, that I am in no way familiar with the Gamecube's lineup. Hence, one could assume that I was not attempting to defend the system in totality, and merely naming titles that immediately came to mind. Responding as if my post was such is an exercise in futility.

The games are sequels, but that in no way implies they are bad. Metroid Prime has a very different playing feel, and could have been marketed under a different name with a few cosmetic changes. To say the games are not playable online is both true and pointless. Because the Gamecube does not have online capability, this will apply to every Nintendo title.

Donesh wrote:I would agree with you about Metroid Prime. It did receive a substantial update. It will be interesting to see what the sequel is like.

However, SSBM plays, and feels way to much like SSB. Yes it did get more characters, and an event mode but the overall 4-player gameplay is far to similar to the original.

Initially, your attitude of thinking is appreciated. Now to respond.

Yes, the gameplay is similar and I will make no effort to say otherwise. However, said gameplay is still a great deal more enjoyable than most other titles I can think of. But, other than multi-player, Event Mode is basically the meat of the game.

Uhhh... I had no previous post other than the one where I said that I agreed with Don. It did have some value anyway, as the statements that the two "best" games that you could think of on the GC were suffering from the same flaws as cited before by Don.

My utilization of pronouns was inaccurate. His previous point still stands. However, I do not believe I ever used the term "best." The worth of the post is arguable, but also at this point moot, and such tangenting from all of us should probably cease.

I will, however, use this same post to respond to Donesh's simultaneous post.

I have played more titles than it would be rationale to list here on all three current generation systems, though I am not by any means an extreme gamer. Event mode I played on my own (there is no other option, if I remember correctly), and for the sake of playing it. There may be Trophies to be earned, but they strike me as pointless.

Regarding your second paragraph, I am uncertain as to the focus of your point. The game has multiplayer immediately, assuming you can provide the hardware of other people. There is also a fair probability that you were responding to members other than myself, in which case my post needs no response.
