Christian Radio

Postby Saint Kevin » Fri Jun 11, 2004 2:29 am

I was wondering if anyone else here listens to any Christian Radio Programs, and if so, which ones?

Some programs I've listened to that have been very helpful to me over the years, in no particular order:

Abounding Grace, with Ed Taylor (my pastor's radio program, which is basically our Sunday sermons and Thursday bible studies, edited for your edification): http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/abounding_grace/

Grace to You, with John MacArthur. http://www.oneplace.com/Ministries/Grace_to_You/

Renewing Your Mind, with Dr. R.C. Sproul. http://www.ligonier.org/

Hope for Today, with Dr. Rick Ferguson. (Note: Dr. Ferguson has since passed away, but his broadcasts, along with those of interim speakers, and now the new pastor, continue on the radio) http://www.oneplace.com/Ministries/Hope_For_Today/

Thru the Bible, with Dr. J. Vernon McGee. http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/thru_the_bible_with_jvernon_mcgee/

Truth for Life, with Alistair Begg. http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/truth_for_life/

Truths that Transform, with Dr. D. James Kennedy. http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/truths_that_transform/

Food for Your Soul, with Daryl Ferguson. http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/food_for_your_soul/

The Connection, with Skip Heitzig. http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/the_connection/

Hmm, I didn't start this thread wanting to host bandwidth for oneplace.com but I guess that's kinda what ended up happening. Anyway, it's a great site that archives the past 30 days of christian radio broadcasts, and I advise you all to check it out.

This isn't an exhaustive list of all of the radio ministries I've listened to, but I have found everyone of these helpful, and I highly recommend them. It seems like just when I thought I was done added programs, I thought of another one that had greatly influenced me, and I thought it unfair to leave anyone out. So yeah, sorry for the long post, but in a sense, these men and their sermons are my spiritual heritage, and they have made me who I am today in many respects. These men are all rock solid, in my estimation, when it comes to theology, and I trust them all implicitly because I have listened to them all for so long. That is not to say that we should listen to anyone uncritically when they open the Word of God, rather, we should all be Bereans.

I urge you guys to take advantage of the truly abounding grace that God has given us, listen to Christian radio in your cars and at work if you are able, and listen to archived broadcasts on the web if you need something to listen to while you post here.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says about the commandments of God (and by extension, the Word of God as a whole: 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.

By the way, I would never advocate using these radio programs as a substitute for worshipping corporately in a church, the church is a means of God's grace in our lives that we ought not to neglect, for it is both the place we are ministered to, and the place where we can minister to others through our gifts.

I love christian radio! My favorite shows are Keylife with Steve Brown, Haven with Chip Ingrahm (not sure on spelling) and Life on the Edge Live and I love Adventures in Oddessy. I listened to AiO with my step-grandma before I was a christian and it's really nostalgic for me. Your right that it can be really edifying, so long as you don't watch it while driving (my friends always tease me because I say I watch the radio).

Oh yeah, Key Life! That is a great program. I only wish it were on longer than 15 minutes. Makes me wish my local christian radio station didn't yank it out of its old time slot (at 2 AM...yeah, that's when I listen to the radio before going to sleep usually). I guess I still got webcasts though. Oneplace.com rocks.

http://www.kvss.com -- catholic talk radio

They have a new show called "we are not afraid", which is a talk show aimed at and basically run by teens. Someday I'm going to be on it, though right now I'm just an observer at the studio  That show comes on at 6:00 every other thrusday. Since I was there yesterday, it wont be airing live again for a while, but dont worry... there is an encore broadcast of it coming up tomorrow! Same show, just you cant call in! :thumb:

Nice plug Sonic. I got like 8 in, so I guess it's only fair that you get one too.

Probably the one I listen to more than any other is Insights For Living with Charles Swindoll. I started to listen to him in college and seminary and my preaching/teaching style is pretty much modeled after his.

If you like Christian Rock, or at least rock with a good message, try http://www.radioy.com. They even have a stream for positive Hip-Hop, RB and Rap music.

I don't listen to any specific programs, but I always listen to 89.9 (WPER), which is the local Christian music station in my area.

Occasionally I will listen to Hugh Ross' Reasons to Believe radio program online.

Yep, he's been on for almost 25 years, and has over 10 different languages I believe. His preaching has been a great help to me, and I definitely recommend him.
