I had seen the suggestion previously but I thought that putting the initials into the picture boxes would make it all too crowded. I didn't think of putting them in the coloured boxes, that's a good idea :) Also, the pictures were taken directly from the ones at the beginning of the tournament so you can always use that as reference.

Anyway, my votes:

@Goldie (and everyone else): please feel free to elaborate on your choices even if I'm not demanding it for this round. It's been kind of quiet, but I guess it's to be expected since we are sadly missing our chattier members: The Subtle Doctor, Atria and Neane (and I, myself haven't had much time left for verboseness).

Results for Day 4 of the knock-out round:

GROUP A
Library War: The Wings of Revolution 9
Acchi Kocchi 2

GROUP B
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo 6
Fate/Zero 2nd Season 4

GROUP C
Moyashimon Returns 6
K 3

GROUP D
Jormungand 2
Natsume Yuujinchou Shi 10

GROUP E
Psycho-Pass 4
Persona 4 The Animation 6

GROUP F
Kuroko no Basket 2
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic 7

GROUP G
Zetsuen no Tempest 7
Nisemonogatari 3

GROUP H
Nekomonogatari: Kuro 4
Sukitte Ii na yo. 7

I think I'm going to dub 2012 as the "Year of the Lighthearted Anime". Not only there was a higher percentage of slice-of-life/high-school light drama-comedy/romance compared to epic-adventure/action/horror/psychological-mystery than in previous years; the former are also totally steamrolling the latter few in votes. I don't mean that it's a bad thing, btw, I just think it's noteworthy. Let's take a look at the standings (titles with total in gold are already qualified to next round, while those in dark red are already DQ'ed.)

Image

We now have three groups already solved! Is it only me, or is anyone else getting a bit tired of Natsume always getting a spot in the latter rounds year after year? As good as it might be, I think it could have stepped down once for JoJo. Anyhow, here's the next batch of matches:

Jojo had the sad disadvantage of inaccessibility/people being too "busy" to watch it. *coughHatlookingatyoubrocough*
It could be that the art style also deterred people more accustom to the traditional anime style (that Natsume of course, exhibits, even with its softness). Jojo's Bizarre Adventure has a dynamic and beautiful art style that edges a bit on a realism, but stylizes it with strong lines and memorable poses. It translated better to animation that many thought it would, I think. And the COLORS!
But, being a somewhat involved series with a "different" art style, Jojo may seem a bit too daunting for the casual anime viewer.
Or people can't handle the fabulousness, idk.

Overall, I do love Natsume, because it's a great series, but I think Jojo should have gone through another round, at least. :< It just got unlucky going against some tough competitors (man, if it was up against something like Psycho Pass or even Eva it may have won!). I suppose it's a sign that I need to start writing up more stuff about how fantastic Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is. There's so much in it to dive into though, in symbolism, morals, history, etc.; it's hard to know where to begin.

While it may have passed away in this best of thread, I can hold the hope that more people will eventually be able to watch Jojo's Bizarre Adventure soon to experience the glorious adventure and beautiful story. \o.o/

Also, hoping for the Part 3 anime soon. Jotaro~ <3

Anywho, vote time! I'll type up a little something for everything, but I'll save the WALLS OF TEXT for later, more difficult battles.

GROUP A
Wolf Children
This has been an obvious choice for everyone who has seen the movie thus far and probably will be on of the finalist. Granted, there are a few on the list I would vote over Wolf Children (Jojo would have been one of them), but it's been pretty lucky so far.
Wolf Children is a beautiful story about growing up and finding one's place in life, for both a mother and her two children this is a hard uphill battle that has a lot of pain and tears, but also rays of sunshine breaking through the clouds of worry and sorrow.

GROUP B
Chuunibyou
I think I remain one of the few that enjoyed the ending of this. It was adorable and a KyoAni classic (not as outstanding as Haruhi or Hyouka, but it holds its own), though it all too often reminded me of my past "Chuu2" escapades. >_>;

GROUP C
Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou
This was a very enjoyable series about the Daily Lives of High School Boys. It was truly a lot of fun.
You can always go look up clips from it, or you can watch it as a Fight Club mashup: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qcr-bgazBUg

GROUP D
Humanity Has Declined
Because I'm a bit jaded Natsume beat out Jojo, but I do think Humanity Has Declined is a step better. Actually, Humanity Has Declined is like a classic sci-fi series; tackling major social and political issues in an adorable and dark humored way.
Also, fairies!

GROUP E
Persona 4 The Animation
I'm sorry not sorry.
No really, this will be the only time I vote for something that is not as good as the other choice. Hyouka is better, obviously, but Persona 4 holds a special place in my heart and that's why.

GROUP F
Kokoro Connect
I have a pet peeve trope; the mind/body switch. It has been always so annoying to no end when people swap bodies and dumb stuff happens and it's just terrible. So, having a whole anime based off the idea of mind/body switching? I was going to drop it like sack of potatoes. But luckily, I gave it a shot because it really impressed me.
Kokoro Connect is about 5 friends who somehow make good come from a bad thing happening to them. They struggle through it, they grow, they get angry, they reject their friends, but in the end, they discover who they really are and are able to accept themselves as well as know that others accept them as well.
Really, it's a fantastic series and if you find the 4 extra specials episodes after the main series, it's even better! : D

GROUP G
Nisemonogatari
I was re-watching this recently and it made me remember how good of a series it was (though, if it came down to it, I would nix it over the toothbrush episode). This was the Monogatari series that made me actually like Senjougahara. XD;

GROUP H
Sukitte Ii na yo.
I'm actually amazed this has made it this long. I thought for sure it was only me and maybe one other person on CAA who had watched this. This is what I would call an excellent shoujo series. It's not for everyone, sure (especially if you're not a big fan of shoujo), but it's adorable.
If it makes it further in the competition, I'll put more time into talking about why I personally enjoyed it. XD But for now, know that it was an anime with a sweet story.

Man, another year monogatari series don't make it into the 16. I do look forward to people talking about this Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun which, going by the blurb, seems painfully moebloby generic and gimmicky. Let's see how our titles stand with one day left in the round:

2 more groups were resolved, 3 to go! Let's see how the last match-ups go:

GROUP A - Shipping shipping shipping shipping...
Library War: The Wings of Revolution

GROUP B - Both series had things I really like (drama/romance/comedy/art for Sakurasou, drama/romance/friendship/music for Slope Kids) and I really enjoyed both. Auuuugh this is too hard.
Kids on the Slope EDIT: I can't decide anymore. I feel like I'd need to rewatch both to come to a solid vote, and even then I might not be able to choose.

GROUP F - Excellent sci-fi.
Shin Sekai Yori

GROUP G - Excellent shonen
Zetsuen no Tempest

At this point, I'd take it over Watamote any day. I still don't understand why that show is popular ... but anyway. Yeah, you have your typical studying nerd and then the guy who gets great grades without work. It probably sounds like Speical A. However, even though I love Special A, I think this series has better character development. Special A never really focused on developing personality and this one does it pretty well. Now, after all this praise, I still have to say that if Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun beats Zetsuen no Tempest ... I will have a serious problem. :eyebrow:

Well, if we were going by the original manga of the two series, I think I'd agree with you; however, TnK's anime adaptation was much better than ZnT's in terms of sticking to/enhancing the source, IMO, so... :)

I know these votes don't matter as much as the top ones, but I'll abstain from voting for or against the ones I can't back up a reason for this time around. XD;

Oh you people, not taking initiative to explain your votes unless you are forced to. XP Or I just talk too much...this is possible. >_>;;

Also, yes, Kaibutsu-kun has a lot more to offer than at first impression. Personally, I enjoyed Sukitte ii na yo more than it, but it was still a couple of steps above a generic shoujo-esque series.

GROUP A
N/A
I have not actually seen the Library Wars movie, so unlike before when I was voting for it out of pity, I don't have a reason to anymore. XD And Mysterious Girlfriend X never really interested me from the clips I saw of it.

GROUP B
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
To this day I can't remember why I never finished Kids on the Slope (someone please tell me what I missed, because it didn't interest me enough to keep going), but Sakurasou was a series that pleasantly surprised me so much that I watched through it all within a period of 4 days (this is fast for me). The story, characters, and whole idea of the series struck a chord very close to my heart, especially as an artist. Why do we bother to strive for anything when some people just have natural talent that we can only hope to achieve? Why should we pursue our dreams? Will hard work get us anywhere? It's a touching series that definitely worth the watch.
Don't worry, the title deterred me at first too, but it's really a great series.

GROUP C
N/A
If only I could judge Moyashimon on its excellent live action counterpart, which is sadly the only Moyashimon I have been able to finish. The anime was okay, but never held my interest for very long. And yeah, I haven't seen Yamato anything. XD

GROUP D
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012)
Obvious choice. See my previous post. I salute thee, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. <o.o Go forth and spread the love to everyone far and wide.

GROUP E
N/A
Both are ranking in the same range of meh, imho. I'd like to hear any defense for either of them, though.

GROUP F
N/A
Have not seen either and while I have received a good reason to watch Kuroko no Basket (even though I'm not into sports anime, I have it on my list to watch), I keep hearing good comments about Shin Sekai Yori (e.g. "Wow, this is a good series."), but nothing really...definite. Is the series good? Why is it good? etc.

GROUP G
Zetsuen no Tempest
I mostly vote for this because of the second half, which was a great deal better than the first. But since you actually needed the first half to understand the second, it gets a pass. But, this was a series that surprised me, even beyond my love of Shakespeare quotes in it galore. It had the potential to become waaaaaay too confusing with its world building, but happily choose to contain it and still make the story interesting with unexpected twists and turns and even a love story in the middle. :3

GROUP H
Nekomonogatari: Kuro
Because Hanekawa. Though, actually this was probably my least favorite Monogatari, but it was still excellent in execution.

Romance shoujo, or really, romance manga in general are pretty generic. It's all in the execution and quality of characterization.

GROUP D
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012)

nazokano
sakurasou
moyashimon
jojo

kurobas
mouretsu
nekokuro

my justification for my votes up until now is to game-theoretically optimize the point allocation for the title I want to come out on top

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun distinguishes itself from most shoujo romances by starring a main character with personality and backbone.

Moyashimon Returns
GROUP F
Shin Sekai Yori
GROUP G
Zetsuen no Tempest

Oh, and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is awesome and features possibly my favorite ensemble romance cast. I think pretty much every character in it was hilarious and lovable and also very distinctive, which is especially great because the idea is that everyone but Sasayan and Yamaken are incredibly socially awkward.

Ditto

GROUP A
Library War: The Wings of Revolution

GROUP B
Kids on the Slope
If this loses it might be the first real heartbreak for me. I haven't seen Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo but Slope Kids is seriously wonderful. Hopefully it makes it through so that I get a change to elaborate on why I like it. If it doesn't... well I hope Sakurasou knows I'll be holding a grudge.

GROUP C
Moyashimon Returns

GROUP D
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012)

GROUP E
Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

GROUP F
Shin Sekai Yori

GROUP G
Zetsuen no Tempest
I must say I'm pretty surprised Space Pirates is out, I haven't seen it but have heard good things and it seemed really popular. I guess the chief reason is the tough group it's in.

GROUP H
Nekomonogatari: Kuro

Also, about Natsume, I think a big factor in it getting so far each time is that even if someone hasn't seen the particular season that's in the particular contest, if you've seen at least season 1, it's easy to vote for the other seasons by association. At least that's what it's like for me. The only thing I can compare it to is the Monogatari works and Moyashimon, since I've only seen the first series of both of those (currently in the second Natsume season). The difference is that I know for a fact that I will watch and love Natsume 4, while I'm not convinced of the rest of Monogatari and Moyashimon. It's also easier to know what to expect with Natsume because of the structure and premise of the show, while with the others it's more uncertain. All of that said, I too wouldn't have minded to see Jojo's advance in its stead.
