They're the same voice actors, and the same animation studio.

Thank you!

Oh, I guess that would explain it. :)

QtheQreater (post: 1595459) wrote:Ah. Thanks for the info. I was unaware of the OVAs.

Might it just be that they wanted to recreate the feeling that the first season had (an unknown history about Hei and who was on what side, etc)? I mean, I figured that eventually I would get to find out about the interim period, but is some of the suspense mitigated by watching Gaiden first? If so, I'm not sure I want to go that route. What do you think?

Sorry, I'm totally slow, and you probably already decided anyway... I watched all of season two first, and then the OVAs, but I didn't find that it brought much suspense, just confusion. (Though I'm pretty awful at filling in gaps when they don't tell you anything) I ended up wanting to watch season two again just so I could understand, especially what was going on with Yin. The OVAs just explain why everything is (and why Hei stopped cutting his hair). So if you want to not hate him so much, watch the OVAs first.

But if you want to leave off on a positive note as far as DTB is concerned, the OVAs are much better than the entirety of season two.

Wha? It's pretty obvious that the anime is well in its way towards a conclusion. I don't think it has 50 episodes left in it (which its actually a lot, but if you already have watched over 500 episodes so far, you might as well do the final straight and see how it all ends :)

Hehe... I get your point, but still... 50 eps is a full season or more for most shows. ;)

Giant Killing 1-3 - This is such a neat show! ^.^ I forgot that I really do enjoy certain sports shows, the ones that manage to get inside the player's heads. It's not quite as high-intensity as One Outs, but still able to keep me interested all the way through these episodes!

I have been watching the spanish latin american dub of Death Note on Hulu. The dub is done so well and it is decent!

I also have south american dubs in high esteem (in as high as my negative take on dubs goes.) They kind of manage to put into it the same kind of energy and attitude as the Japanese original, which is something that I consistently find lacking in English dubs. That said, I'd expect the English dub of Death Note to be decent since English dubs usually excel at broody moods. It's the happy, energetic ones that they don't seem able to grasp properly.

I think voice actors should watch the subs and study the characterizations. Dub dissonance is one of my pet peeves.

Oh, and I've been thoroughly enjoying Kimi ni Todoke. :)

Started Moyashimon, watched the first 3 episodes. Pretty interesting so far although I'd have to get used to some of the more whacky parts.

Forgot to say I finished Ga-Rei: Zero. I thought the end was just a bit anti-climactic but it's not bad overall. I reached a point where I lost some sympathy for Yomi and just wanted someone to take her out already. The series definitely benefits from the non-chronological order though.

I'm generally bad at reading manga otherwise I'd check Ga-Rei out to see what happens with the characters. I'm kind most interested to find out more about the main antagonist.

I love the anime and I have to say the manga is not good. One of the few instances in which the anime is better than the manga let's just say.

I wasn't aware there were south american dubs. I am more familiar with the dubs done in Mexico and the dubs done in Spain. I usually prefer the ones dubbed in Mexico because it is closer to the latin american spanish that I grew up speaking. (Well specifically I grew up speaking Costa Rican spanish which falls under latin american.)
The only problems I've seen in some spanish language dubs is the bad acting and bad literal english to spanish translation. They usually keep the original japanese music.

I usually watch english dubs or english subs because they are more readily available legally in the U.S.

You might have a point about happy energetic ones.
One of the best spanish latin american dubs I've seen is Espiritu de la Lucha (Hajime no Ippo) The acting and translation were so beautifully done well. T.T They were so happy and energetic just like the original.
Speaking as a latino, we are a little more dramatic and energetic. haha But not all are like that. There is some little truth in that stereotype.
Maybe that is why.

Edit
Sorry for the long post

Quiet here, today.

Sadly, I have run out of Kimi ni Todoke. And I think it's about to get really interesting... I can't stand Kurumi-chan, but I'm really happy
Sawako stood up for her feelings at the beginning of Ep. 11.
Can't wait for the next episode.

More Giant Killing (eps 4-9) - This is really a great show! The matches are exciting and while the way to victory is clear at this point, that doesn't make it any less heart-pounding! Glad I'm going to finish it up this week!

I've caved in and started Clannad. SO MUCH SHOUJO GAAAH :forehead: But yeah, it looks to be one of the good ones, at least, so I think I'll survive. I actually laughed aloud at a couple parts, which is a good sign - the only other shoujo I've ever enjoyed have been pretty funny.

Finished Natsume Yuujinchou yesterday. It's really super peaceful and quiet and lovely and I'm ready to dive straight into the next season.

I really liked the part where Natsume says something like he was really lonely when he was young but then he met kind people and decided he wanted to be kind too. I love that he just decides the type of person he wants to be and then just lives his life according to that principle.

Considering it's a seinen and not a shoujo, it's amazing how cute things are. But then again, Chi's Sweet Home is also seinen, so go figure.

Technically, it can't be seinen or shoujo because those are manga classifications. Visual novels have their own nomenclature: Clannad would be considered a nakige. But yes, if we take into consideration the demographic represented by those labels, Clannad is targeted to older males, as most visual novels are.

A quick way to distinguish between shoujo/josei vs shounen/seinen romance is whether the principal character is male or female. Shoujo/josei romance will be from the point of view of the girl while for shounen/seinen it'll be from the point of view of the guy. Of course, there are exceptions, but that's a pretty good rule of thumb, since, generally, the intent is for the reader to identify with the main character.

Also, K-ON! is seinen, so take what you will from that.

Finished Hyouka. Glad this series is over. It had all the ingredients to be great but turned out so middle of the road average. The animation was top notch, the art was excellent and there were some great ideas here. I could see how the novels could make for a brilliant read but this show had some bad pacing for a show made by Kyoto Animation

The last few episodes were used to explore the characters which would be fine if the exploration and development of the characters wasn't so dry. There was nothing here other than scenery to give anything any flavor which can describe the show as a whole. It's large blocks of mildly interesting exposition that got boring long before the 25 minute run time of each episode is up.

This show isn't terrible, but it wasn't good IMO, it was just sitting there IMO.

But then I saw Hulu had more episodes of Kimi ni Todoke, so that made me happy. :)

^ FYI, there's an edit button in the bottom right corner so you don't double-post like this.

Since KNT is a slow-growing romance, you do have to wait for the second season for what you want to happen! (in general, I prefered the second season to the first)

Anycase, more Giant Killing - didn't finish it before CR took it down, but I'll figure something out. This is a fantastic anime, definitely something that keeps me on the edge of my seat!
