You should watch the Digimon movie, it was directed by the same director and with Summer Wars he basically took the same plot and said, "Hey, look at how much better I am!". It is really awesome to see how he has changed as a director. Plus there are a lot of visual similarities between the two movies.

Right now, I have started Steins;Gate. It is the Donnie Darko of anime and that is amazing. I should have watched it sooner.

(Sorry I've been un-active, I got a pretty bad cold and the whole family ended up getting it. ^^; Of course that gave me a chance to marathon an entire show before I had to take care of everyone.)

Finished Hyouka: You can't Escape!
I love, love Hyouka. It has great characterization, stunning (and by stunning, I mean gorgous) visuals/artwork, handsome character designs and clever writing. The lead character ended up becoming one of my favorites and the main pairing's interactions are amazing.

Story/Plot: 8
Visuals/Artwork: 10
Characters: 10
Music/Ost: 8
Ending: 7

Overall I give it a 10, because while the ending didn't resolve what I'd hoped, it was still great. (Also, the source material is still on going and they didn't even use all of it.) and I'm very biased. (Oreki~ <3)

Also watched and finished Steins;Gate
Another great anime, the ending was incredibly satisfying. (Which is a nice change of pace for me.)

Story/Plot: 9
Visuals/Artwork: 7
Characters: 8
Music/Ost: 7
Ending: 9

Overall: 9. Really, this ended being much better then I'd thought it'd be.

Finally, up to date for Eureka 7 AO and Sword Art Online.
E7A: I was hoping Ao would actually shoot Elena... I wanted to know what would happen already!!! I like Fleur a little bit more now, however she and Naru still annoy the beejeebees out of me. I just hope Renton shows up soon. SAO: Aww, this ep made me cry. D: I love Yui, she's just so sweet and innocent and stuff and... Whhhhy did she die? I hope Kirito really can bring her back after they beat the game. (Oh and Kirito and Asuna are even better together as a married couple, I just love them~)
OH my gosh... KEEP WATCHING! That show constantly gets more gripping, and it never one disappointed me. Loved it to the end and still do

Latest thing i did was rewatch The Girl Who Leapt through time and got one of my non-anime-watching sisters to watch it with me... and she liked it. Success :thumb:

Inuyasha episode 33. I love the dynamics between InuYasha, Kagome, and Kikyo. It's one of the best love triangles I've ever seen, probably because it's a guy in the middle for once!

Finished FLAG.

The presentation and visual style were great, and they were working from some good ideas story-wise, but it feels like they fell short of what they were trying to accomplish, and distorted the reality what they were trying to deal with in the first place. I'll have a full review up eventually.

I went to a special cinema event and watched back to back Ame and Yume, Wolf Children and Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below (very light spoilers ahead.)

Wolf Children can be summed up by one word: Beautiful. It's magnificently pleasant on the eyes and the story is one of the most heart-warming things you'll ever see. And the feels, guys, all those feels; I was on the brink of tears almost through the whole movie, though the tears threats did not always come from sadness, but also from wonder, and happiness and just plain joy. In a stark change from the pretty and cleverly designed artificial world of Summer Wars (I'd normally say "beautiful" but I seriously can't use that word lightly while in consideration of this movie) we are now regaled with the magnificent vistas of nature through the seasons which confirm any suspicions about Mamoru Hosoda's ability to find and depict beauty in everything.

In spite of what the title may suggest, this is not a story about wolf children (though wolf children are prominently featured,) but about an incredibly strong woman -their mother- who has quickly climbed to the ranks of my favourite anime characters. It's a story about the hardships a single mother has to go through to raise her kids -hardships that are multiplied tenfold when said kids are half-werewolves- from the initial financial struggles through the more emotionally difficult woes of seeing kids grow up and the necessity to adjust one's expectations and instinct to care for and protect versus the obligation to allow individuality and freedom of spirit to develop.

It's also a story about a woman moving from a psychologically oppressive but comfortable urbanite life to the liberating but physically and mentally taxing life of sustaining yourself in the country. Controversially, I'll state that in this, it succeeds beyond Only Yesterday, which bucolic, slow pace was poignant and relaxing but comparatively unchallenging. The emotional drama and ever-changing nature of the conflict (plus, admittedly, the savoury slight hint of fantasy courtesy of allowing the existence of werewolves) keeps Wolf Children always in its toes and there's not a single dead moment. From laughter, to fear, to joy, to anger, dejection, ecstasy, sadness, the story is a veritable rollercoaster of emotions that never escapes out of control or becomes overwhelming thanks to the great strength of character and bright personality of its main character.

There may be some better things out there than this movie, but most of them involve dying and going to heaven.

Watching Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below right after Wolf Children was a cruel injustice to it, but there's just no discussion that Children Who Chase~ is much inferior. However, good things first:

Children Who Chase~ is an undisguised love letter to studio Ghibli and the anime from the early nineties. With a setting and visual elements reminiscent of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind and character and monster design that you could insert into Princess Mononoke and not notice an intrusion, and a narrative structure and a plot following conventions from fantasy anime from that era (championed by Escaflowne, which the movie references visually at least a couple times,) it is clear for the long-time anime watcher that Makoto Shinkai is crafting a beautiful "thank you" card to the medium that inspired him to become whom he is now.

It is also -as we all have learned to love and expect- breath-takingly beautiful in its large panoramic vistas of long-grassed fields and cloud-layered, colour-tinted skies and his signature railway crossroads. The world is imaginative and vibrant and the action scenes beautifully animated and choreographed. Speaking of expectations, the theme of "distance" is heavily played but manages to never cloy.

However, the movie falls prey to its own good intentions. Trying to include too many trappings and conventions of the medium he's paying an homage to, the result is not unlike that of a patchwork that had to sacrifice character development and proper, cohesive narrative to make room for all of it. The jerkiness in plot and character development make the story hard to believe and the characters hard to empathize from and give the general effect of having cut tons of all the "boring" character-establishment, emotion-development, sense of wonder and personal difficulties to give you all the thrilling plot-advancing bits it could pack in two hours.

Without a doubt, this story would have been much better served as a 24-episode series than as a movie and that without adding much new, really. Just filling the blatant holes and pacing the events properly. Having said that, I understand why this is a movie and not a series: its very own premise makes it wholly unoriginal and derivative which would make the series painfully unnecessary and redundant. As a (superbly visually beautiful) movie it stands as a statement of love and gratitude rather than as a rehash or a cash-in.

At this point, I think it's necessary to acknowledge Makoto Shinkai's shortcomings as a teller of epic narratives, which we have seen in his other plot-driven movies. Hopefully, he'll become aware that his real kind of genius is that of the deeply personal, character-driven stories and manage to expertly make of that the focus of the big, sweeping epics he obviously loves to tell.

I still wholeheartedly recommend this movie, specially if you are a fan of nineties anime and studio Ghibli. Its plot may leave you slightly unsatisfied but everything else will make you smile.

Dog Days Episode 2: Ok, I thought this anime was going to be pretty mild but then
a girl lost her clothes, though no detail was shown
and I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse than that. I really like the character designs though, and I'm hoping the series gets better as it goes along.

Mawaru Penguindrum Episode 1: Ok that ending was confusing. O.o I'm not sure yet if I'll keep watching this one...

Watched and finished Nodame Cantabile.

Story/Plot: 8
Visuals/Artwork: 7
Characters: 8
Music/Ost: 8
Ending: 8

What an odd show! It ended up being more pleasant then I had hoped it would. I really enjoyed it. Shinichi makes a great main character, (and him even being the focus character is a nice suprise, since I had assumed that Nodame was going to be the main.) I'm a major fan of his voice actor, Tomokazu Seki, as well, so I was really happy about that. And Nodame manages to still be cute and likeable while also being her extremely weird self. The side characters were actually a bit of a weak point I thought, aside from Mine, his dad and Shinichi's cousins, I never ended up truly liking any of the supporting cast much.

The character development was great though (I also liked how they subtly showed how Shinichi slowly began to actually care for Nodame. Not gonna say he's in love with her or anything because it's too early for me to tell.), and the music was also fantastic. (I just love classical!) The art was good, the character designs were fine, and while I liked the ending, (thought it was very cute actually.) I'm glad that Nodame Cantabile has a sequel. I want to see Chiaki's career take off, Nodame take the piano serious and of course, if they really become a couple.

Overall - 8/10.

So just finished watching that new Code Geass Akito thing:
Action was good. Characters were acceptable. Plot varied, I particuarly didn't like how they just recruited the 3 Elevens who tried to kill them (but honestly, it's Geass so whatever), but after that it went up with Xin using Geass and Akito's vague remark at the end. I wonder what Akito's deal is. The only thing that comes to mind is that maybe he has a Code himself? That's too easy though, and doesn't make sense since he's been geassed himself. Plus his remarks about dying before probably can't be taken that literal.

Tsubasa is an awesome anime, great choice!

Lately I've been watching Last Exile, I just finished episode 16. So far it's absolutely amazing. I couldn't ask for better characters, better plot, better setting, anything! Its awesome! Its completely clean, too, which is a huge plus. I can't wait to keep watching it!

I just finished Hiiro no Kakera. It was bizarrely bad. The second season just started airing and I remembered that the first looked kind of interesting so I watched the 13 episode first season from this Spring. Don't get what the appeal of a show like this is. It was action-ish at first, then that stopped, it looked like it was setting itself up as a reverse harem, but that never happened, there looked like some interesting antagonists but they're all 1 dimensional and pretty much unstoppable.

You may as well read this spoiler since none of you are going to watch this show.
Some princess tasked to protect all these relics, and she, who can't do anything at all, is surrounded by bishounen bodyguards with some sort of supernatural powers. Some bad guys show up that want to take all the relics, at first there's some good fighting and you get to see what kinds of powers everyone has. Then the bad guys suddenly say, "we're really just testing you" and proceed to become unstoppable at every turn. So they go around and do whatever they want and take each of the relics, just waving their hand or some smoke appears and all the body guards are defeated. The girl, of course, is unable to do anything so she just cries all the time as each relic is taken and the bad guys rub it in. You'd think there's some catch some where or some twist at some point, but it never really happens. By the time the last episode rolls around and the last relic (which happens to be a sword) is going to be taken, there's suddenly this romance that comes out of nowhere, all the body guards are defeated, and they do the "but we're still winners! because we have friends!!" before losing. But when the relic appears, one of the body guards grabs it first, there's some mist and everyone has bizarre flashbacks, and then all the bad guys decide, "well, maybe we don't want it after all, see ya!", they leave and the show ends.

I'm not making this up, it just ends.
It's safe to say I'll not be watching the second season.

What were they, out of curiosity? It seemed to wrap everything up wonderfully to me.

To celebrate FMA Day yesterday, I watched the second FMA movie, The Sacred Star of Milos :thumb: The animation was kind of wonky in parts and not really what I was expecting from Bones, but it was a fun little story, and the climax was awesome. Also, they actually had a believable way for blood to spray out like a fire hose, so now I will pretend that's how they do it in all the other anime that have that.

Someone discussed it with me via PM, and apparently, the author intended for the situation to be ambiguous, as far as what's really going on with the haibane and the town.
While it was an ending that wrapped up some of the major plot points, it was not a satisfying ending, for me. For one thing, it felt like the first arc of a longer story, wherein I expected a lot of the plot hooks that were introduced to have things hung on them and then resolved.
If I'm being vague, it's because I don't really feel up to another discussion of this show right now, but I didn't want to be rude to you by just leaving you hanging or giving you just that first paragraph.
Thank you for responding, though.

Currently Watching:

After War Gundam X
Ahhh, back to that old familiar lets-talk-about-war-and-cultural-issues Gundam feeling. 2 episodes into it and I'm enjoying it so far. The music is great (haven't checked yet but it sounds like Yoko Kanno), and the ending theme was taken straight from a North American 90s love song. Unexpected for a Gundam series, but definitely a nice touch.

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (On Hold)
This is a beautiful series. If I were to tell my opinions about it in full detail, I think I'd be here all night. Suffice it to say, it's in my Top Ten. And it's not even done yet! Best UC series so far.

Fairy Tail
Still playing catch-up.

Completed

Mobile Fighter G Gundam

Grade: FAIR. There are a lot of good things about this series, but those were overwhelmed by the BAD dialogue writing most of the time. Good ending though.

Episode Count: 2065

Finished 12 episodes of "Humanity Has Declined" on crunchyroll. The series is so funny and genius!
(I have no idea what the rating is but there is little mature content in the few last episodes. Be advised and aware.)

Shin Sekai Yori 1 - This was pretty awesome! I admit, the first episode had me a bit stumped on what was happening, but I was all for it.... and then read the MAL synopsis and was spoiled on it all >.> Congrats, MAL.

Debating on what to start next. Probably K, and then catch up on Tari Tari from last season.
