Lol, I watched Ouran right after I finished FMA. If you watch them both dubbed, it's definitely going to be interesting. X3

But there is a distinct difference in how the parents are in those movies and what the parents are like here. Those parents never purposely placed their kids in danger just for the heck of it. That's not exciting or full of wonder. Spirited Away is the only one where there's some actual-honest-to-goodness danger to her life, but that's for a slightly older age group. They could have very much reworked that scene so that the mom didn't come off as a careless idiot who didn't give a **** about what danger her kid was in as long as they got home.

This was different than his other "kid" movies, he exclusively singled out that age group. The mom IS a careless idiot, everyone in the movie has the mental capacity of a five year old. But they are meant to be that way. Have you watched the bonus features? It provides a lot more insight into what he was going for.

Finally watched GITS: Solid State Society. Great movie, it's pacing did drag a bit here and there, but I loved it. (Keep in mind I'm a biased fangirl of this series, so my view might be a little tilted.) So glad my favorite Tachikomas came back, I adore those little guys. ;) And the ending was a prefect setup for a 3rd season methinks.

I'm still holding out for it even though it's been six years since the movie came out. I mean it's not fair they haven't yet, SSS just made me want more GITS... lots more. I could watch Section Nine all day.

.9/10.

Also saw E7 Ao episodes 18 - 19, and let me just say, I wish the previous 17 episodes had been this good!

Even though I walk though the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Watching Nodame Cantabile so funny! A little perverted. But hilarious. I think I find it especially hilarious because my best friend is a LOT like Nodame. It's actually scary. Of course she's a little more off the wall than my friend. But she seriously is like her a lot.
I'd imagine that my friend will someday end up with someone similar to Chiaki too. Haha.

Almost done with Tsuritama. Good stuff, also watched Glass no Kamen OVA, not as good as the 2005 version, in my opinion. But still good. :D

Hyouka, episode 21. Wonderfulllll, I don't want this to end.

I'm watching the remake of Hunter x Hunter, been putting off doing that every since they announced that they were not getting the original voice cast back (that alone makes this version inferior). Very disappointing compared to the original series and I have high doubts they are going to continue past where the last anime left off--they made a character BLEED SPARKLES, how will they handle the violence in the later arcs? >_>

Watched Crimson Wolf

Hoooooly ****. Oh Japan, you can still surprise me sometimes. This one's a brightly shining flaming turd even by the OVA boom standards, and it's absolutely miraculous that this title is absent from some of the more well-known lists of terrible anime even though it has been released on R1 DVD. The form is basically perfect. The story starts out as your average supernatural shounenfest, but the stupidity screw starts tightening fast, and the mid-part is really so bad it's so bad. This is greatly helped by a, ahem, romantic development so bad that it makes the final episode of Mad Bull 34 look refined in comparison. Luckily the final act picks up speed and becomes so bad it's awesome, with scenes of two-fisted political commentary such as this.

Also watched Tekken: Blood Vengeance

Not since Gundam Seed Destiny have I seen a main character being shafted this badly. Needs a side story for Lee, he was amazing.

And Solar Adventure

This is where the film Space Thunder Kids got its famous tank scene from. The original uncut scene is way longer and has a pay-off so spectacular it had a roomful of people howling their butts off. Alien invaders team up with North Korea's general Goiter in order to stomp out capitalism, and a drug-fueled Red Dawn-esque hijinx ensues.

Wannabes

Hot girls, violence, and lots of total and complete stupidity. An all-around entertaining OAV.
Image

Also saw Full Metal Skin Panic Madox
I wasn't that big of a fan of the character designs, but it was okay.

Currently Watching:

Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack
(Seriously, I've paused the movie just to write this post, especially because of the comment below.)
I've been reminded yet again that when I try to understand the history of the opposing sides in the UC Timeline, I fail utterly. Wish I could find a diagram of that; I think seeing it in a more spatial display would help. If any fellow Gundam fans out there could help me with this issue, I would very much appreciate it. Just send me a PM!

Fairy Tail
Still playing catch-up. Such is the nature of an ongoing major-leaguer series. The Tenroujima Arc was awesome though.

Completed:
Genshiken, Season 1
GRADE: GOOD. Boy that opening whistle is catchy...

Gundam ZZ
GRADE: FAIR. First half was downright painful, but the second half took itself seriously and was actually quite enjoyable, for the most part.

Samurai 7
GRADE: GOOD. Having seen the original (which I own), people told me I wouldn't really like this. Actually, I appreciated the adaptation expansion, and I think they did a good job of it.

Episode Count: 2,009. Woohoo! Broke 2K!

Up next: Gundam Unicorn and... more Fairy Tail!

All caught up with Hunter x Hunter. Around episode 40 they are suddenly totally cool with showing blood and violence. Good news for future arcs, but the sudden shift is VERY jarring--it's like a whole different show now. Much closer to how HxH should be, almost on par with the original anime.

Watched Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos yesterday (Funi has the dub up for a little while apparently). I didn't have any huge expectations for it, so I ended up enjoying it.
The animation was weeeiiirrrd, though. I would have gladly taken a drop in framerate over making the characters look off model (Since when does Ed have shades of green in his eyes?!)
What is it with FMA movies and insane amounts of blood?

Ed: "Pedro was a good man, but you murdered him!"
Chatbot: "I would have invited your friend, Companion Cube, but you murdered him!"

Watched several things today!

First things first, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children COMPLETE (dub): I had to wait a very long time to see this movie... but it was worth it! :jump:

Thanks to various Wikis and fan discussions, as well as conversations with my friends, I had been aware of-- and had eventually come to love-- the characters and overall story of the entire FFVII Compilation for a number of years now (...and I was finally able to actually play a couple of the Compilation's games last year-- speaking of which, I have to say on a sidenote that Dirge Of Cerberus was great, and Crisis Core was absolutely *awesome* {and, in fact, Crisis Core is easily one of my top favorite games of all time}!! :jump:). However, I'd been holding back on the movie until I could watch the Complete version, because of both the visual upgrades (and from the trailers and other miscellaneous clips I'd seen in various AMV's and such, visuals like that truly deserved to be seen in all their proper HD glory), as well as-- particularly-- the extra half-an-hour-or-so of story (which I'd heard was actually a pretty necessary addition that should have just been in there in the first place :P). Only problem was, neither I nor anyone else I knew had an HD TV at the time; and then once they did, they didn't have a Blu-Ray player! :P Fast-forward to today, where-- after my best friends had acquired the necessary equipment (and oh my gosh, their new setup is amazing!)-- we finally got to see Advent Children Complete.

And it was everything that I expected it to be-- a nice little entry in the FFVII saga, featuring the characters I know and love (...and oh man, while I love just about all of the characters, I have to say in particular that I actually love the Turks even more now than I did before-- Reno and Rude were fantastic, and stole every scene they were in!), with some absolutely amazing music, and visuals that go well beyond the realm of mere 'eye candy' straight to 'mind = blown'. :wow!: So, as for the rating-- because, while I *could* give it a personal 10/10 just on those things alone, I usually do try to be at least *partially* objective when I rate things ;)-- since even the Complete version could probably still have done slightly better on parts of the story, and also since the movie is really just for FFVII fans, not *everyone* (as I'd expect something rated a 10 to be), I'll give it a 9. :thumb:

I also watched the half-hour On The Way To A Smile - Episode: Denzel anime OVA that came on the FFVII:ACC Blu-Ray, and it was really good! It dealt with Denzel's backstory, and thus it really put the whole Sector 7 plate collapse + oncoming Meteorfall + beginning of the Geostigma and all of the ensuing destruction, lost lives, and etc. into perspective... plus, it also had quite a good ending. 9/10 and thumbs-up for this, too! :thumb:

Finally, I *also* watched Hyouka, episode 22! (And, of course, my thoughts on that are in the dedicated thread, as always.) Guess it was a good day for anime-viewing, huh? ;)

Watching Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. I have to admit, I was a bit wary about seeing it since I watched FMA first, but so far I've liked this approach even better (and I really liked FMA).

I just watched Summer Wars! It was so good! As a fan of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, I was not disappointed in this one. The art, story and characters were all very interesting, and plot twist kept me on edge. It really made me think too, about how much stuff we use the internet for.

Its definitely worth watching but of course it will be nowhere near as good as brotherhood.

Before brotherhood came out i had been hoping that they would make another anime that followed the manga storyline and they did. ^__^

Has anyone else been keeping up with Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki? If not, you should be. It is pretty much my favorite 3-minute episode thing ever. I think I even like it better than Chi's Sweet Home. The characters are all really charming and it is surprisingly funny - if you like cats or know someone who is obsessed with them, especially.

This week's episode was gold. Ootani Ikue is really wonderful.
"Moe-saaan. Bye-bye, Moe."
