I wonder, am I the only one of two people (The only other person is Agloval I believe) here who have seen the 2007 Series of
Terra e...?
It has a very fast and consistent plot without plot holes, awesome atmosphere and soundtrack to create unique emotions, very good pace between dialogues and action, high suspense, nice character development, no villains or heroes, both sides have their motives explained thoroughly and have equal "air time", very strong family, earth-nostalgia and love, relationship, emotions, and a decent ending to boot.
What's not to like?
I own it on DVD and I have seen it a couple of times already.
Other anime I have seen that I don't seen mentioned here:
ZegapainAsk yourself this: Do you love suffering in works of fiction? Do you like works of fiction that put their endearing characters through unimaginatively hellish trials. Do you like it because it's all the more satisfying for you when these characters persist and break through the emotional and physical obstacles
that torment them?
If so,
Zegapain is worth a watch.
Brigadoon Marin to MelanIt has lots of happiness, sunshine, rainbows, child abuse, angst, and genocide. I would say that it fits in the same group of anime and manga along with Bokurano and Now And Then, Here and There...you know...stuff that aren't over the top, and are legitimately depressing in terms of what the characters suffer through.
The Actions in Brigadoon actually have consequences. People get hurt, and can even die. Tragedy can strike without warning. And when things can’t seem to get any worse, they do.
But the characters change and grow from these sometimes harsh experiences. Through them you get to see the inner strength of Marin, and the developing bond between her and Melan as he comes to understand his charge.
Brigadoon is both a fast and a slow show. Events can happen quickly, and situations can change in an instant. However the development of the characters slowly takes place throughout all the episodes. Watching the last episode and looking back, it is amazing just how much Marin and Melan have changed.
Brigadoon was happy and heart-warming at times, and funny at others. But it was also desperate and brutal in some instances, and sad enough to make me cry several times. It makes you feel for Marin, cheering her on through adversity because the outcome seems never certain. You want her to have a happy end, because she of all people deserves one.
Shigurui: Death Frenzy Thought Berserk was over-the-top violent? Seriously??
It actually has a great story underneath the gory visuals. Too bad that the story is incomplete. Still one of the better samurai series out there.
The anime ends at volume 7 of the manga...the manga is very good by the way.
Soul TakerIt is a great action show filled with metaphysical aspects. Much better than it looks first, you just have to get behind the strange way its story is delivered
GilgameshThe art is kinda hard to dig at first: dark and grey, but you get used to it. The multiple twists of the story could get you confused but it's also the most charming element of this story. Also, I believe that Gilgamesh gets too much hate for being different from most anime out there. I don't know about your tastes in anime, but if you're looking for a mature, intelligent anime in the same vein as Texhnolyze, Wolf's Rain, Ergo Proxy that also has has a
heavy atmosphere [it is persistently dark and gritty and it never lets up with little or no happiness anywhere] with a well timed plot that leads to a satisfying conclusion then Gilgamesh is a good and underrated choice.
Ai Monogatari: 9 Love StoriesYou wouldnt think it, but Rugby's actually a pretty big deal in Japan, yet you'd be hard pressed to find any hint of it in anime. This one wins the award for that alone - throw in some good old drama and we got ourselves a good anime.
Not all of the stories are great, but just because of that you shouldn't hold back from trying this one. It's has some
really nice romance stories.
WasurenagumoA great little movie with fire-breathing spiders. Very little to complain about regarding the animation, storyline, or characters, plus a very unexpected conclusion.
Green Legend RanIt is a very short OVA from 1992 - 1993 that is very similar to Now and Then
