I'll come right out and say it: I feel really tempted to write a lemon fanfic.

Before you peg me as a big lemon fan, I've only read one bona fide lemon in my whole lifetime and I find 99.99 percent of all lemons (excluding that one which was surprisingly well-written) to be stupid, intellectually vacant, and not even worth the time it takes to load the page-and I don't read them for those reasons as well as that I fear punishment from God Himself for engaging in such a sin.

Anyway, I had this idea on the corners of my mind for a while, and I finally forgot about it, realizing that I would lose everything if it were tracked back to me and afraid of what God would do to me.

So over the last few days, it's come back. I don't want to write lemon, but I do-although so far I'm managing to talk myself out of it or at the very least to not post it as part of an existing story, despite having a kind of license for it in one ("Sole Survivor") where I moved the rating to R for another reason (violence and a theme of mental illness and suffering).

Anyway, today I was reading of all things the Song of Solomon, because I've reached that in my Bible reading plan. I had this horrible thought and now not only do I feel like a lemon writer, but a blasphemer. :waah!:

Hmm. What to say?

Well, you don't really need to be hard on yourself about it. These things happen, they're just part of us. In my opinion, God won't punish you for that manner of thing, if it's what I think it is. Just don't dwell on it.

I'd strongly urge you not to do a lemon, though you appear to have this conviction yourself. Lemons are fanservice in words. Even if one is treated intelligently, and is set in a completely Godly relationship, it's still nothing less than written pornography.

That doesn't really help you, does it? I'll pray, whether or not this is in the prayer section.

:( I'm sorry, I don't really know what to tell you. Like UC said, you already have the conviction not to...just pray for strength to avoid the temptation to do so. There is such a wealth of writing in this world that you can be doing in the meantime...think on this. :thumb:

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

My personal suggestion is not to take it quite as lightly as CO suggests. If God puts in on your heart to be concerned about something such as this, you should DEFINITELY look into it.

Uhm...hate to barge in...hate to burst your bubble...but I've never read one, nor know exactly what one is.

MillyFan, pray. Pray for the strength to resist temptation, and if the temptation comes on strong, busy yourself. Do something else. Play a game. Go for a walk. Read the Bible. Don't let the devil catch you doing nothing.

Just my 0.5 cents (Canadian currency is worth nothing these days)

A lemon is a sexually explicit fanfiction. Sometimes it's even homosexual ones, which if my memory serves correctly, are called limes. Go fig.

Oh. Please, don't write one of those! I'm sure God hates that as much as you hate yaoi! Plus every time someone read it, you'd be at least partial responsible for their sin. :(

Well, I guess the question would be, what type of creative or story goal were you trying to accomplish? Maybe there's some other way to achieve the same kind of creative ends without having to resort to a lemon-type fanfic.

Hi MillyFan! I think you're brave to admit this. Thanks for being honest with us, and trusting us not to blast you for your weakness. We ALL have weaknesses of one kind or another, and I can think of no better people to share them with than our Christian brothers and sisters.

Rashiir made a really good point -- if you write this to be read, then it isn't just your own sin you're involved in. Hopefully that thought will help you talk yourself out of writing it. Instead, use your talents to write something edifying that you can share on CAA, or something like that.

I don't think God is going to punish you for having such a thought... you haven't acted on it and you are obviously distressed by it and looking for help. God doesn't look for any reason to "zap" you. "He will not turn his face from you if you return to him." (2 Chronicles 30:9b) He is our Redeemer, slow to anger and quick to forgive.

You've got lots of prayers coming your way! :)

Hmm, I can honestly relate, MillyFan. As an artist, there have been times when I've considered sketching out a picture that could be considered inappropriate, whether it be my own original characters or fanart. My intentions are not to be gross or perverted about it, but to express the character's strong feelings for one another.

I also think, from what I've learned of your character from your posts here, that you wouldn't write anything that was outright nasty - just like I wouldn't draw anything that was outright pornographic - but we both know that we'd be giving the limits a big push.

Whenever I feel like drawing something that's borderline, or something that I feel like I'd have to warn younger viewers (or in your case readers), God always tugs at my heart. I am then reminded that God made me a steward of my talents. He gave them to me, but it's up to me how I use them, and someday, I'll have to be accountable for that. I really don't want to answer for one of my artworks encouraging other people to think the wrong thoughts. Suddenly, I don't feel like drawing that particular picture anymore. I still want to create something that will express the emotions going on - but without the sexual overtones.

If God gave you the talent for writing, then it's your responsibility as to how you use it. And EireWolf is right - the fact that you haven't yet acted on it is important, but you may want to do a little heart-searching as to why the motivation is there.

Thanks, Gypsy. you've been really helpful. More so than you may realize.

-^.^- I've decided to imply rather than depict for now, hopefully I can get across my point and my character involvements without being too explicit-I've done that in the past, so maybe I can make implication as opposed to depiction work again this time.
