I just finished the 5th Kara no Kyoukai movie and it was PRETTY AWESOME.
The first 4 movies were pretty good, definitely above average to excellent, but the 5th one was something else.
What anime are you watching?
I recently finished Fuujin Monogatari, which kind of came out of nowhere and surprised me by being one of the most enjoyable slice of life series I've seen in a while. I watched the first episode of it years ago, but wasn't in the mood to finish it until recently.
The story follows a couple of girls in their last year of middle school who are members of the digital camera club at their school. One of them - Nao - spends most of her time taking pictures of clouds on the roof of the school, and one day, upon being surprised by a random flying cat, accidentally falls off the roof, but is saved by a strange gust the wind, which she finds out is actually being manipulated by her teacher, who is part of a group of people who have an unusual ability to be able to manipulate and use the wind. Nao and her close friend and a classmate find out they also have this gift, and so begins a series of their adventures as wind manipulators.
Without meaning to imply anything negative about the anime by it, this summary actually makes the story sound a lot more interesting than it is. The wind manipulation aspect of the story actually has very little to do with it - the episodes are little snapshots in the girls lives, each of which is connected to the wind in some way, but there is no overarching plot and the wind manipulation aspect is not even mentioned in half of the episodes or so. Instead, the stories are focused on very mundane, everyday adventures of middle schoolers - from playing kick the can with some grade schoolers, to lying in the nurse's office all day and listening to the conversations going on around you, to applying for idol auditions, to dealing with the tensions at home when Dad takes up motorcycling as a hobby on a whim.
It is very, very slow and nothing really happens, so it is definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but I found it very charming and relaxing. The characters were refreshingly realistic. They felt like regular children you could encounter any day, instead of having "uguu I am cute" quirks, as in most others stories of this type (such as, say, Tamayura, which is the series I kept comparing Fuujin Monogatari to most while I watched, due probably to the fact that I was watching both at the same time, and they both focused on photography a lot).
The art is the thing that probably stands out the most about the series. Everything is very simply designed, everything is angular, the color palate muted, and the characters are oddly proportioned. I thought it was very lovely, but whether or not you like it is definitely a matter of personal taste. It was accompanied by a very soft, lovely, but unfortunately somewhat repetitively used soundtrack by Kenji Kawai - as is typical of a lot of his music, it is harmonically simple, focused heavily on melody and rhythm instead, and it suited the feel of the series perfectly.
B+, would watch again. =)

I've been watching this show called Touka Gettan, which is pretty unique in a few ways. It's a supernatural-fantasy-drama-romance show of 26 episodes. Halfway through. It's a good thing that I started to read some stuff about the show because at first, I had no clue at all what was going on, and why all these things are happening, and why I should care. Then I'd think to myself, "Hey, didn't that person die?" or "Didn't they already have the concert that she's talking about being a part of?". So...
Firstly, the entire show is in reverse chronological order, so I saw the conclusion first (not like Berserk or Gungrave where you see the conclusion first, then the rest of the show in the correct order. This show is not at all in chronological order in anyway. A couple of the episodes are out of order.). What this results to is that in every episode, there's all this stuff happening that I have no clue why, and most of the time, I don't know what's going on; until I watch the next episode, but then that'll have a bunch of stuff that I just don't follow; etc. etc. By the halfway point, I'm already used to not knowing what's going on half of the time, and it's a pretty weird feeling when you want to watch the next episode not because you want to see what happens next in the story, but to see why you saw what you just saw. To make things worse, this is a supernatural fantasy world so sometimes what I see isn't even supposed to be taken literally. Even so, they're doing a good job with the writing and it's turning out to be quite an enjoyable show. I would like to note in case anyone is reading this is that there are some elements of this show that will not be okay with some here.

Kimi ni Todoke - Eps. 1-12
Loveeee it. It's so sweet. Kazehaya is seriously one of the nicest male characters I've seen. I also like that, while romance is a main focus of the show, it still focuses a lot on friendship as well.
...And Kurumi-chan is ugh. Just, ugh.
Also, I noticed something cool: The beginning of Kimi ni Todoke's OP sounds a lot like the beginning of Owl City's cover of Enchanted. What's more, the reason I started watching Kimi ni Todoke was because of this AMV, which uses that same song by Owl City. Even more bonus points because Enchanted is one of my favorite songs.

So I recently burned through Ga-Rei-Zero with The Subtle Doctor, which was a pretty interesting action show. The characters were all pretty likable and the show was surprisingly fun when it wasn't being dark. One of my favorite things was the crazy things that get used as ghostbusting items, which include but are not limited to wheelchairs, irons (the kind you iron clothes with), suitcases, and my favorite, motorcycles. I got pretty wrapped up in it when things turned serious, and the last couple episodes were pretty tense. I think the only real major issue the show has is how one of the characters goes dark. It would have been pretty powerful stuff if she'd had some slow buildup of evil before going to The Dark Side, but she kind of has it forced on her, which kills some of the power to the conclusion. All in all, though, pretty good stuff.

Rewatched Porco Rosso, The Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro.
All of them just as great as I remember them from over 2 years ago or so.

I finished off the first and so far only broadcast part of Rinne no Lagrange between stints of packing today. I thought it was a fairly decent show with very nicely drawn, if a bit rare, mecha action. Madoka's get-up-and-go was refreshing. If anyone's thinking of watching it it's mildly fanservicey at points -- they mostly frontloaded this into the first episode -- but other than that it's pretty inoffensive.

By the way, the manga Ga-Rei is not good.
When I first got into the manga, I thought: "With a high-budget and awesome in nearly all aspects of awesomeness anime-prologue like that, surely the manga has to be something, right?"
And then I started to read it and I got greatly disappointed with what I found. It had some good points and moments, but never really escapes the realm of "barely average" manga's.
Most of the mysteries that exist after one watches the anime are explained, often in a great way. However, everything else in the manga just barely passes the average-grade mark.

Watched Noein 1-4. I like it! It's still a jumbled mess of converging plots and unexplained mechanics but I feel the imminent presence of brilliance. I'm finding it similar to Dennou Coil, except the kids are slightly less dumb and almost not annoying at all!

Recently I got to rent Sword of the Stranger. It was absolutely fantastic. I liked everything, especially those final fights. I haven't been wowed like that since Giant Robo. (Which, come to think of it, I should watch again.)
Somewhat more surprisingly (ha), I was also very impressed by the soundtrack. I don't typically focus on music in anime, but I could listen to Sato's score all day.
I could probably babble forever about this movie, but it wouldn't come out as very intelligent. Suffice to say I loved it all to pieces, and gave it 10/10.
Man, watching this reminded me how much I love the action genre. I need to seek out more of people beating the crap out of each other.

Episodes 343-353 of Bleach. Now that it has an ending, I've returned to it. And am enjoying immensely. However, I'll be glad to drop this somewhat lengthy commitment when it's done...though I'll still miss some of the characters.
