They're legal if you own the games.

Aaaaaactually...if you look at the back of your GBA manuals (or any others, for that matter), it says it's even illegal to own a backup. It says something to the effect of: "Backups are not legal or necessary to protect your software" or something like that. I don't agree with that, but that's the way it is...according to the manuals...

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

They've been telling me for years that it was legal if i owned the games and the system. It should be, anyhow. SNES's break.

Like many laws there are loopholes and it, despite the "anti-piracy" messages on manuals, is legal due to some old law or what not. Good Rom sites will tell you, but yes you are to actually have a physical copy of it to have a back-up.

(big on Region 0 dvds, down on Roms... its all loophole legal issues.)

The law is newer than the SNES games (and many others) so those aren't protected under the law that was passed some where around 1996 or 98. This was to prevent the creation of copies of their newer games so that there would be no spread of them on the internet before the games released or to hurt sales after release (or period). You can still have roms and emulators of games before this law was passed from what I understand. It is possible to have things such as e-books and software in cartidge as empty cartidges are sold on Amazon.com.

I think that there might be doubled protection if you inclued the Digital Mellenium Copyright Act, DMCA. I have the summary of it, but it's 18 pages long so I can't do it in one post and won't post it at all. This law was passed in 1998 and has several treates under it that were passed in 1996.
