How anime helped one stoner kick the habit.

Postby neoassassin2078 » Sat May 22, 2004 9:12 pm

I don't now whether this belongs in anime or general but since I happened to be here when I thought of this, I'll post it here.

Anyway, my next door neighbor is a well known drug dealer so stoners are always hanging around at my building and stuff. Anyway, I was walking home from the bookstore a few months ago and this one guy, stoned straight out of his mind, came up to me and said he recognized me from gym class. Anyway, it was below freezing that day, and he was'nt wearing a coat, and somebody was supposed to pickhim up in two hours, so I let him stay at my house for a few hours. Just a little bit of hospitality that I show all the time. Anyway, I showed him an excel saga DVD. Usually its funny, but aparently when your stoned its EXTREMELY funny as he seemed to be enjoying himslef a lot (I would'nt know myself since I'v never smoked pot much less smoked pot and watched anime). Anyway, I did'nt hear from him for a few months. I later found out that he was arrested for driving while stoned and with out a license since he was 14 years old. Anywa, they sent him t drug rehab and all that, and once he got out, he went out instead of buyng a big 'ole bag a reefer like he usualy does after getting out of rehab (he's a regular customer) he went out and bough all six volumes of excel saga. Anyway, I just recently found out that he gave u drugs entirely in exchange for an equal addiction to anime. And two dys ago he cme to m directly and thnked me for getting him hooked on anime, which causes him o ave not enough time and money in his budget to bother with weed again. Anyway, this is just some little exploit of mine that I did recently.

Hey, that's cool... Exchanging a destructive habit for an equally addictive yet less harmful one. :thumb: At least anime won't land him in jail or destroy brain cells. :)

I don't know about that either. There was that recent case in Japan allegedly involving NGE and a murder. ^^;;

But cool story all the same.

Anime won't land you in Jail unless it's the true uncut version of a certain unmentionable movie, or unless you're crazy... I guess it's good he's off drugs, but that's probably because watching excel saga is sort like being on drugs... (hehehe)

I love Excel saga, but I'd stop after ep 17 and skip ep 16...

Hmm, I certainly feel like going on some murdering rampage. Actually, better not, I got anime to watch. But watching it makes me feel like going on a murdering rampage... Then again I have anime to watch... It's a vicious cycle for me.

Anyway, that's a pretty cool story to hear. Sounds good that anime is better than drugs. Maybe except sugar, but that's an unfair match.

Nuh-uh! Kenshin's too wonderful to destroy brain cells. ^^x (unless you watch it a ton, that is)

Hm. I wonder what would've happened if he'd watched Hamtaro instead? ;^^x

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Think of it this way.

Marijuana has been proven to not be physically addidctive.

They still don't know about anime.

Has anybody here ever suffered through withdrawal symptoms from not watching enough anime? I have.

Just to nip this in the bud, this particular statement is not a subject we're going to discuss here.

Yep. When they first took Toonami off weekdays, I didn't talk for two hours and then propmtly started screaming.

Way cool story! That's so awesome.

I think that trying to figure out the physics behind the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu can kill brain cells. Though ten minutes of FLCL will do more damage than the physics of the entire Kenshin series. *nods sagely*

Hm...I never got off of anime long enough to go into withdrawal. If I can't watch it, I make my own in my head or start writing fanfiction or manga.
