What anime are you watching?

Finally got to watching Millenium Actress. Breath-taking! Simply breath-taking! The art, animation, the story...a solid masterpiece! I laughed, I cried, and sometimes was confused whether or not the two interviewing her were witnessing a scene from the actress' movie, or an actual experience in her life.

Started watching Macross Frontier. Finally, a mech series that hasn't let me down in the first 3 episodes! Without a doubt better than Guilty Crown, but we'll see if it becomes better than Gundam SEED (that started badly but ended greatly)

I am actually enjoying the beginning of SEED quite a bit, but maybe that's because I am a UC guy (the opening act of the show is clearly modeled on the events of First Gundam).

I've been watching Code Geass:Lelouch of the Rebellion, and it's been very good so far. (I'm on episode 12) My biggest complaint is the fanservice, but it's nothing too problematic so far. I like the way the relationship between Lelouch/Zero and Suzaku is worked out. I often find myself rooting for both the Black Knights and Suzaku, even though they're on opposite sides. I'm curious to see what happens between them.

When I'm done with Code Geass, I'll probably watch either Noir or Mobile Suit Gundam, whichever one I feel like.

Rewatched Saiunkoku Monogatari: Season 1. For the 3rd time, at least.
About to start Season 2 once again.

Still makes me RAGE at the fact that they will not make another season or two after it, now that the novels are finished. RAAAAGE! Hahaha, sorry. It's one of my favorite shows, and it just annoys me that shows like DBZ, Inuyasha, Bleach, Detective Conan, Naruto and the like can get a BAJILLION episodes and at least 5 seasons, and a really cool and clever show like Saiunkoku, can't even get a 3rd season. It just blows my mind. XD

No offense to those of you that enjoy those shows, I'm just ranting off my frustration.

And I'm not even gonna mention my frustration about the 2nd season not getting dubbed. I'm done ranting now.

I watched another mini-arc of Ghost Hunt. The silly production values reminding of bad western animated series for the 90's is jarring me something fierce now. The story itself was much better than the first arc, but that still doesn't put it into the realm of "good". I'm really surprised it got such a high rating in MAL.

Since the show is so episodic (arcs of 3 episodes each with little continuity between each other) I think I'm going to jump straight to the last arc just to see how they close things. I expect to be disappointed even given my lowered standards.

Just go straight to the Blood-soaked Maze arc. That was, point-blank, the best arc in there.

I recently finished Toradora! and realized that from henceforth and forevermore I need to stay as far away as possible from romantic comedies. I had an urge to punch a wall after every episode, since I couldn't exactly reach into the anime and punch the characters. I'd heard so much good about the show that I pushed myself to finish it, but by the time the last few episodes came around, I realized that was a really stupid choice. Unpopular opinion, but...I did not like it at all.

I seriously wish you could watch that series free of the influence of the very negative criticism that it receives here in the CAA. It is far from a perfect series, but it's perfectly enjoyable.

It's actually a rewatch for me. The first time I saw it, I completely didn't understand the last eight episodes, so I'm waiting for the same thing to happen with baited breath. I liked the first 2/3, though.

Are you guys talking about Last Exile? The ending is what **** me off, otherwise it was a really good show.

Last week I watched and finished Xam'd: Lost Memories.

I know that this show can be a little weird, but I really enjoyed it.
The soundtrack was awesome, the music for each scene fit perfectly.
The opening and ending themes are some of the best I've ever heard.
The artwork was good, I could tell it was the same people who made Eureka 7, that just made me like it more though.
The entire cast was really well developed, I especially liked Akiyuki, Yango, Nakiami and Haru.
I thought all four characters deserved happy endings.
... Which is why I can't give it a ten out of ten, the plot needed more episodes, like fifty. And the ending that they came up with,

[spoiler]Made me cry, I really loved Nakiami, so I hated that she was put into a deep sleep for a 1,000 years. And poor Yango was left to wander, alone. ;__; I was happy for everyone back on Sentan Island, but why did Akiyuki have to stay incased in stone for nine years? Why not one? Why did it take nine years for Haru's thoughts to bring him back? She really loved him, so why did it take so long? That didn't make any sense. I also felt bad for Ishu, not only did her love interest die in a stupid way, but the girl she raised as her own is now asleep for a 1,000 years, so she'll never see her again.[/spoiler]

It was was still a very fun and thrilling watch, despite the downer ending.

I think the reasoning is that a good amount of people don't equate sad endings with bad endings (incompete is generally bad, so I can't argue with you there). Sometimes, the fact that they're willing to show that things don't always have a happy ending and be true to life is what makes an ending great. I would rather have a sad but true to life ending over a happy and fake and contrived one.

Last Exile 9-20- I might finish this one before the day is out. I can see where the story is unravelling and has flaws already, and it's making my knees knock.

Just started Eureka Seven. Seems to have decent pacing, interesting concept. Characters aren't really memorable, but still great.

GaoGaiGar - up to ep. 17.

There's not a whole lot to say. Things are getting more intense: the Gao's signature attack is killing the pilot, they fought a Nazi train cannon, and the GGG got robots that can transform into a giant set of pliers, which can be used to fix black holes. Yep. Pretty standard stuff, really. I can definitely tell it's ramping up to something big, though, and when it comes, nothing will be the same.

G Gundam - up to ep. 4.

I've been playing too much Super Robot Wars J lately, and decided to start this one. It's about what I've expected so far: a solid, cheesy '90s robot fighting show involving ridiculously ethnic combatants. It's got my attention enough to keep watching and see where it goes, between Domon and Rain's understated romance and the overstated, cartoonish nature of pretty much everything else. It's kinda awesome.

Texhnolyze. This mature sci-fi thriller series is dark, extremely sombre and rather slow-paced. It's an ambient dystopian cautionary tale - well-done but not easy to watch. The characters aren't particularly likeable and the protagonist is almost as annoying as Shinji from the Robot Anime Which Shall Not Be Named. But the story is layered, as are the characters and the art is good but rather limited, although not to the extent of Serial Experiments Lain. There's some strong content but it's mostly limited to infrequent high-impact graphic violence (the ending has quite a bit though). Still a good series but only one for older anime fans.

I like the characters, but what is the robot anime which shall not be named? I don't particularly like mecha so I have a guess as to what it is, and if so I haven't seen it.

The pacing is well crafted. It doesn't rush itself into things like other comedies do.

Speaking of speed, the humor is well delivered and clever. It is random and fast, but it's delivered nicely. It's not insanely funny, but it has a few hilarious bits in it.
