Summer Wars is most excelent. You will find much praise and love for it here. Ah- if you watch it, do it sub. There's a noticeable less amount of language in the sub.

Will do :) I never watch dub anyway... can't stand English voices that try and be as incredible as the Japanese ones ;)

Well, it's a worthy work from the same director and manages not to look entirely as a disappointing mess in comparison to the awesome masterpiece TGWLTT is, so yeah, check it out by all means.

Though, I'd have to say, after seeing the "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" I can't imagine anything being better than that... Though, I know it should be possible. Guess I'll have to check it out for myself. Hmmm.

Hahaha, I feel exactly the same. Honestly, I liked the ending, and the whole piece was just so beautiful, cute, and touching that I really struggle to see it outdone :) But, Summer Wars looks good, so I'll watch it next time I sit down to watch a movie :thumb:

Was watching a little bit of Clannad: After Story.

The animation looks like it was done by the same studio that animated Lucky Star, am I right?

You are watching good stuff then :) I have yet to find anything quite that... moving? I'm not sure what the right word is... but it was a very touching depiction of life and I love that whole series SOOOO much :jump:

Watched episode 23 of Steins;Gate. OH MAN!!! That was pretty intense. I couldn't believe that...
Kurisu's own father wanted to kill her! She was just sharing her time machine theory and wanted both their names on it since he inspired her, and he goes off being angry at her for being so smart! All she wanted was his acceptance and love. How sad! So that's how she was stabbed. Man! And then the message Okarin sent to himself about how to change the past. Sounds so confusing, yet epic and unique!
All I can say is I can't wait to see the last episode next week. How will it end? This series may have started slow, but it was well worth it! This is the most unique and brilliant time traveling story I have ever encountered, with unique twists and turns that you never expect!

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time cannot be the better movie by the sole virtue that Summer Wars is the greatest movie ever. That does not mean it is absolutely fantastic, in fact, I just got the Special Edition DVDs in the mail on Monday because I love it.

Stared watching FMA: Brotherhood, Magic Knight Rayearth, and Spice and Wolf II. Brotherhood is a lot different from the 2003 anime. It's darker too and some of the humor is more cartoon-like. It's still good, and I'm enjoying watching it. Magic Knight Rayearth is better than I expect. It's still cheesy at times, but it's worth a try. I like the humor too. Spice and Wolf II is off to a good start. I've only seen the first episode, but I'm excited to see where the series goes and how it ends.

I finished Soul Eater. It wasn't bad story and plot wise. A few of the characters were utterly annoying (Black Star and Excalibur), but some were great (Maka, Tsubaki, Marie, and Kid for starters). The show's underlying philosophy annoyed me. Other than that, I enjoyed the show more than I expected.
I also finished Spice and Wolf II OVA. It was a short, cute episode that delved into Holo's relationship with Lawrence and Nora. I rather liked it. I can't wait until it's dubbed.

Michiko e Hatchin

There is a thread on here about under-appreciated or overlooked anime. The gist is that anime X is under-rated because it is good and not many people know about it. MeH is certainly overlooked, but not just because so many people haven't seen it/don't know about it, but because of how many people would absolutely love it.

Seriously, Michiko to Hatchin is the most accessible show that no anime fans have watched. It is the successor to Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, though Watanabe plays a consulting role rather than a directorial one. The series is done by Manglobe, studio of the aforementioned samurai hit. It's beautifully animated, masterfully directed and, whether doing gun fights or conversations, is never, ever dull. This series truly ought to be licensed and running on Adult Swim. That is the kind of broad appeal that I think it has.

Imagine if Cowboy Bebop was one, single plotline rather than the episodic series that it is, and that plotline focused on Vicious and the syndicate. And imagine it was located in Brazil. If you can grasp that, then you can start to have an idea of the feel of this series. Also, it has a car chase scene (episode 14) that rivals, if not outright surpasses, the one found in The Castle of Cagliostro.

MeH tells the story of two women, one young and one very young; one looking for a lover and one looking for a father; one with an open heart, one with a heart that wants to open. Both are bruised but very, very strong. They travel together in search of a man who could fill the void in their lives, yet over the course of their journey they discover how to be whole through their own relationship. The slow, organic growth of Michiko, Hana and the other supporting cast members is incredible to see. For instance, Michiko may be off-putting to some at first, but any fans of Balsa's character from Moribito will love Michiko by the end of this series.

For anyone who is a bit bored with anime, wants something fresh or desires to feel that special way they did when they first got into anime and saw its potential, this is the show for you.

Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini

If you go into this one with the right expectations, then you'll be fine. Do not expect to have any lingering questions from the first season resolved at the end of Ryuusei no Gemini. Do not expect any concrete details about what contractors are or anything concerning the Gate. Do not expect an explanation of what has taken place in the two year gap between the seasons. If you just take the show where it is coming from, then you can enjoy it.

I realize that this is very difficult and can be very frustrating. It is a lot to ask a viewer to ignore pressing questions and just focus on the story DtB2 wants to tell. Actually, the story it wants to tell is alright. I found it pretty enjoyable. They dropped the whole 13, 2 episode arcs, schitck and just told one, serialized story over 12 episodes. This worked for me. I cared about the new cast and dug the returning cast members. The action and the music (especially during the action scenes) was fantastic.

Truth be told, I actually liked this season better than season one, which is heresy to series fans. I just thought the serialized format worked better, and, to be honest, my expectations were not quite as high. I had given up on getting the answers I would normally demand from a series like this. Not a ringing endorsement, I know...but Mao is a flying squirrel in this one! That's cute, right?

Usagi Drop 8-11 (complete)- Adorable. A great ending to a great series. I hope there is an extra episode coming up- this was one of the best anime adaptations I've seen of a manga I adore! Maybe they'll pick it up for a post-timeskip season, too? Who knows!

Steins;Gate 21-24 (complete)- Wow. I was really worried there about the ending! This was really a great story and a good anime overall. I think I'm still chewing over it, but right now it's a 10/10 in my book! If you're going to do a classic sci-fi plotline, do it well. They did it well.

I watched a bunch of stuff recently, but I felt like I should wait to talk about Redline after I'd finished Cowboy Bebop, because I knew I'd feel largely the same way about the both of them and they are sort of connected by a thread.

I think they are both excellent anime and are definitely at the top of their class in terms of technical production. Cowboy Bebop in particular does some really neat stuff with its setting and characters.

But.

Having spent some time in the internet anime community, I noticed that there's this segment of self-loathing fans who hate anime and seem to lament the fact that not every anime is Cowboy Bebop and if only they'd make something like it again, anime would be saved and continue to hold out hope for that day. And, well, Redline was that anime.

And so, the thing is that Cowboy Bebop and Redline are not for me and they don't resonate with me. I know a lot of people get into the wider world of anime through Cowboy Bebop, so it serves as a sort of a lens through which they view the rest of anime. I am not one of those people. I didn't need to be convinced to get into anime through something like Cowboy Bebop because I'd already been smashing buttons on my cousin's Super Famicom playing Dragon Ball or Gundam or something in hiragana for as long as I could remember.

I think a lot of the hyperbolic praise (as opposed to the praise that it deserves) that Cowboy Bebop and Redline garners is because of this nostalgia. This doesn't work for me because I already have anime that I think are amazing and Cowboy Bebop and Redline don't really fit in very well with my own anime nostalgia. The result is that the both of them are very good, but feel quite alien to me.

Finished Durarara!, a fantastic series, I really enjoyed it.
(However it does need a second season, now that the characters have been developed, and the relationships basically established; it should be amazing. *_*)
I give it an overall score of 8/10

And now I've just started watching Kobato. (I finished episode 7 last night.)
It's a very cute series, and I have a feeling that the ending wil be rather sad. =/

(Princess Tutu is still on hold since the family members I watch it with are always busy. ;-_-)

No. 6 eps 9-10 -- hey! it went from "creepy, kind of boring and just overall poorly thought out" to "well, at least things blow up." I'm bummed at how bad this is because I'd been looking really forward to it. But oh well.

Sacred Seven eps 10-11 -- I love this show. Very, very much.

Finished Tiger & Bunny.

Some series have tension-filled endings that keep you on the edge of your seat. Some endings really beat you up emotionally. Some endings leave you going "what did that mean?" or "what next?" This ending . . .
Mostly made me smile and say, "aw, that was cute." The series was idealistic to the last, and I think that's one of the things I liked about it.
I'm still giving Fruits Basket a shot. I just watched episode 4, which I liked much better than the previous episodes.

About halfway done with Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru. It's cute and heartwarming, and the enemies are dumb-looking and pilot equally dumb-looking robots.

Speaking of heartwarming, I watched Tokyo Godfathers yesterday. It still makes me cry to know that Satoshi Kon is dead.

As for Fruits Basket, the anime is nothing compared to the manga.

(Just imagine how amazing that makes the manga?)
Seriously, the Fruits Basket anime is still one of my all time favorites, the music, the voices and the overall feel of it is wonderful~!
I think you should keep watching it Mouse, it's so worth it. :thumb:

I'm just going to cover my ears and pretend I didn't hear that, okay? If you saw how my house was overrun with cheap paperbacks that I can't bear to get rid of, you'd understand why I don't want to start reading manga if I can avoid it. If I started reading the series, I would want to buy it to support the industry, and where would I put all 20-whatever volumes of Fruits Basket after I'd read it? The beauty of anime is that so much of it is legally available online, and even when it isn't, a box set doesn't take up that much room.

Besides, my husband has been trying to get me to read graphic novels and (more recently) manga. I can't let him win! :P

@ Mouse- You could see if it's available through the library. I get all the manga I can through there, because then a) I'm supporting the industry since the library will probably buy it, and b) since the library will carry it, more people might read it and get into it!

Of course, I'm lucky enough that my library carries all of FB. But.... yes, the manga is better. I'd only rate the anime a 7.... maybe.... but the manga is great!

D'oh! The local branch of my county library has almost no graphic novels or manga, so I didn't even think to check. It looks like some of the other branches have various volumes of Fruits Basket. As far as I can tell, the whole series is in the system, scattered at different branches. So, yeah, I no longer have an excuse . . . hmmm.

Yeah, I think it's one of the most popular Manga... so you can pretty much get it at any library, I think? As much as you might like the anime... (personally, I can't stand it, but that's up to your own opinion)... the manga is SOOOO much better

Still like the Fruits Basket anime, even if it's not as thorough as the manga and obviously doesn't go as far as the manga does in the story.

Anyways, watched Hana-Saku Iroha ep 25.

Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou - Finished season two. This series has definitely made it on to my "must buy" list. I really like the characters in Natsume, particularly Touku and Shigeru and how they really try to make him part of the family.

Dantalian no Shoka - episodes 4-6. It isn't bad, but it isn't outstanding either imo. The characters feel kind of flat to me, and I'm not nearly as drawn to Dalian like I was to Victorique. However, I really like the music.
