FLCL/Fooly Cooly/Furi Kuri

I know there are some folks here who don't like this show that much. To them I say: don't try to understand the show]

Quoted for truth. I would recommend anyone watch FLCL for the very first time to watch it for the EXPERIENCE and not really try to understand the nuances of the series because there are a heckuva lot of them. Just enjoy the ride as my good friend the Doctor said and with frequent viewing, more and more things will start to make sense. Heck, I've been watching this series for years on Adult Swim when it first came out and on DVD and I'm STILL discovering new things that I never noticed before.

Anyway, back on subject, I'm just wrapping up "Ghost Stories" ADV Dub (Funniest thing I've ever seen) and I think I'll pop "Mushi-Shi" in the DVD player tonight. I'm in the mood for something quiet and cool.

Thanks to an unexpected uneventful semester beginning, I was able to breeze through Princess Tutu, Spice and Wolf, Romeo x Juliet, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle the Movie: The Princess in the Birdcage Kingdom, finish The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (both seasons) , and watch most of X-Men (2011) in the past couple weeks. With those out of the way, I've been able to start a few new series such as Toradora, Magic Knight Rayearth, Spice and Wolf II, Fractale, and possibly Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle. Hopefully I'll be able to finish a few of my on hold series (like Sour Eater, Gosick, and/or Kimi ni Todoke) if school stays quiet enough.

I was also able to watch a bit of anime with my sister. We watched a bit more of Last Exile (now up to episode nine, she's enjoying the series as well) and hopefully can start Princess Tutu soon (she's been dieing to see it since I first mentioned it). We might even start watching Primo Passo together since she's taken such a liking to it. Hopefully we can get a few more Ghibli movies in as well and maybe finish Macross F, if we have time and I find the thief who stole all my anime. >_< Grrr....

:(I am relatively unpolished, scratch that. I haven't watched a lot of non-kiddy or mecha anime, period. That's part of why I am on this site, so I can find good anime without too much blind experimentation. So I have been trying out some of the older stuff first, like Trigun right now. I would also like some recommendations for a 15 year old guy who's seriously ok with violence, but not nudity or absolutely terrible language, and has a family who is almost totally anti-anime in general, for the above reasons.
A little, no A LOT, of help would be greeeeaaatly appreciated.

It's always an interesting experience, trying to move onto an older age set for anime! I hope you find some that you like! There is a thread specifically for recommendations:

I am so bad at sticking to one show and watching it all the way through.

Right now, I am watching (roughly) 11 anime series right now.

G Gundam ep 6.
Hanasaku Iroha [airing, so I can only watch one per week] ep 23.
Angelic Layer ep. 14
Bamboo Blade ep. 9
Full Moon wo Sagashite ep. 6
Ikoku Meiro no Croisée [Airing] so on ep 10.
Koi Suru Tenshi Angelique: Kokoro no Mezameru Toki ep. 4
Lamune ep. 1
Tears to Tiara ep. 4
Usagi Drop [Airing] ep. 1
Yumeiro Pâtissière ep. 40

So yeah... LONG list. I'm trying to buckle down and just finish the ones that are almost completed, like Yumeiro & Angelic Layer. Thing is... I get so bored easily, so I change up what I watch almost everyday. However, I've decided I'm going to just stick to these shows and finish them, and wait to watch anything else until I've finished at least one or more of those shows. [Not including the ones, airing, because those obviously only get out one episode every week.

It's either Alberto the Shockwave or Shocking Alberto in the dub I was watching]I have to ask, do you know the circumstances behind Giant Robo?
Sort of; the characters from a few different stories the creator had written got mashed together into a new story, kind of like what Astro Boy: Omega Factor game did for Tezuka's work, right? And just like for most of the characters from Omega Factor, I'd have to read some obscure Japan-only manga to get Big Fire's story, am I right?

I'm currently watching Kemono no Souja Erin. Just finished episode 41 out of 50. Nine episodes left! :D

And holy crap. O_O

This series is supposed to be for kids, but I have no idea why they categorized it like that. Although it starts out a bit slow, once you get past the middle, it's compelling and really makes you wonder why on EARTH anybody would say that this is a kid's show. It's amazing. The art is wonderful, the plot is extremely interesting, the character's have depth, and the heroine is level headed. I'm usually not good at watching one anime at a time, (look at my MAL, got 12 of them, XD) but my heaven's, I'm putting everything else on hold til I finish this.

I'm actually very surprised that this anime is not more popular. I mean, people might just brush it off as a kid's show, but this anime would be great for adults too. And I mean, GREAT.

You missed the 'let's watch!' we had for this a few months ago! xD

Also- why can't children's shows have character depth and good plots? I would much rather have kids watching those than ones that have one-dimentional characters and idiocy.

Thanks. And I know my grammar is not the best. It's partially on purpose, as I try to write a little like I talk in real life. Oddly, my spoken grammar is better than my written. Perhaps, it's because I can hear what I am saying rather than read or it could just be I HATE ENGLISH! I don't know, just another oddity I guess.

Done Pandora Hearts, I liked it... But the last two episodes were very out of place. I wasn't too happy 'bout that.

Still watching Usagi Drop! <3

Recently started K-On! I hope it will be good. The ending and opening are cool: They're like music videos!!!!!! Hopefully the moe overload won't kill me! (Is moe the right word?? I have no idea... ^^;.... )

And, as usual, my (full-spoiler) thoughts on these ep.'s are in the show's "Let's Watch!" thread. :)

If you don't mind very light shounen-ai, then it's a very interesting dystopia story that I would recommend. It's not the best, or ground-breaking, but definitely has some interesting points to it.

I loved K-On! It's got epic music and it's super cute.
"And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." D.Gray-man episode 14. Ahhhhh. I feel like now I can just settle back and enjoy every episode. The characters are so vibrant and interesting, very fun to watch.

<_< ...And I've proven to myself yet again that I have the absolutely useless talent of recognizing actors. I recognized that the actor playing the old guy in this episode also did Magwar in the first FMA series. Yeah, that guy who's only in like two episodes ._.
Sort of]You are partially correct. While Imagawa was only permitted to use Giant Robo and Daisaku but was told to write a Giant Robo story, he then contacted Mitsuteru Yokoyama and was given permission to use any character from any of Yokoyama's other stories, which is also why people will be dressed in clothing from feudal China right next to people who are dressed in shnazzy suit. It actually uses people from pretty much all of Yokoyama's body of works.

However, what I was referring to was that The Day the Earth Stood Still is essentially The Empire Strikes Back of Giant Robo. Imagawa had initially planned many storylines(like, seven or something) but since no one bought it they could only create The Day the Earth Stood Still. In some interview, he mentioned that it would have to sell as well as Ghost in the Shell in order to have more made.
