Meh... -_- the crazy stuff people make up and expect others to follow in...

posted in the thread linked wrote:"Wow. Guys, let's keep this on topic. I was offended by Twinrova's comment but we don't need to get into a debate here. If you really want to discuss this, use PM's." Stuff like this can split forums up... real quick in factions...

I agree with this, debating like this can split a forum up into nasty little factions. You can post a Bible verse which disproves their false claims and then, info the person to take this discussion to PMs. Yet, of course posting a Bible verse will offend some touchy people... not, a real fun stituation... but, still we must stand strong for the Lord!

Those are my thoughts...

(shrugs) It happens. People believe what they're going to believe. Our job is to be a witness through actions, words, and sometimes, silence. Not by arguing about why we don't use witchcraft. As I mentioned, sometimes silence is better.

Stuff like this reallly gets to me. But I agree with the people that were saying they need to take it to PM. Stuff like that too easily sparks a fight.
But anyway... thats just... grrr... >.>

You run into that kind of thing every now and again, but you've just gotta remember that most of the people who say it aren't lying in their own mind; they're just somehow misinformed. I knew a girl who was under the impression that Christians of long ago used to eat their babies or something. She was just new to the faith and didn't understand much but the bits and pieces she'd scrapped together from childhood.

Don't ask me. I have a serious problem with issues like this.
I nearly always state my beliefs...in love, but nevertheless, I start a huge fight and am constantly attacked because of this. I call it like it is: raw hatred and persecution. They tell me to "stop acting like a martyr".
It's a constant battle. I'm just going to have to learn to listen to the call to withdraw. I have quite a temper, and I love to debate. Sometimes, however, I feel the Spirit calling for retreat...and the last time that happened, I ignored it, hence the poem on my siggy...

I agree with Zilch. It's kind of sad that that person has obviously never learned what Christianity is about. But it doesn't bother me too much, because I believe that the majority of people know that Christianity is about Jesus Christ, not witchcraft.

What gets to me more is the prudish Christian stereotype. >.<

*shrugs*

If they are simply misinformed about certain aspects(simple, direct aspects, at least) of Christianity, you could always calmly explain their mistake and/or provide good links with verifiable info.

If the person involved is lieing/spreading wrong information delibrately, then there isn't much you can do and debating with them will solve nothing and will probably make the problem worse.

That said, the Nintendo Power forums are probably not the best place to get into religious discussions...

I believe that the person who stated that Christianity came from some form of Wicca or Shamanism is under the belief that religions are all on some sort of evolutionary continuum, from Nature-based, to polytheistic religions, to monotheistic religions. I've heard this argument before, but it really doesn't hold water.

I would have made a PM to all of the parties involved who seemed to be misinformed, and I would have quoted scriptures that could summarize that Christianity is centered on Christ, while admitting my own ignorance of Wicca.

I think that these many of these people are under the same basic misconception that so many people are...that all religions are fundamentally the same, and that there is no real consequence to picking one or another. If religions are just preferences like ice cream flavors, there is no real reason to favor one or another.
Our lives are but a vapor, let us not let waste our time and breath on vanities, but let us spend ourselves for the Kingdom, seeking a better resurrection.

The funny thing is that when I took my World Religions class at college, they play down the whole universal religion thing due to the fact that each one is so different, even oposing, from the others... what you're left with when you celebrate what is the same is basically a short list of generic virtues.

I haven't read the link yet, but from what I'm hearing here, it sounds like someone who's been told one thing or another and hasn't bothered to check the facts for themselves, and this is something most people are at fault with (and one of the things that burns me up about most Christians as well).

As for any claims that Christianity is rooted in the same place as Wicca, those claims can easily be put to sleep just by a simple study of History... face it though, some people will believe anything..... there are still people who believe that the "Moon Shot" was fake and that professional wrestling (i.e. WFE) is real.

That's nothing compared to what goes on everyday at the Gaia Online forums.

The only thing you can do is inform them of the Truth and if they don't believe, pray for them.

I honestly think that the guy who first stated that Wicca is wrong, shouldn't have said that in the first place. People get really defensive REALLY fast, especially on the internet, and that comment was immediately taken badly by the other members of the board. I wouldn't have said anything at all.

Any religious subject is going to be led astray into a huge hole of debate. Whenever I am in those kinds of situations, I just keep quiet and I believe in what I believe in. I understand that everyone was taught something one way or another when they were young and MOST carry it into adulthood without facing any substantial research to furhter implore the real truths.

And for those who said that these types of subject matter cause forums or groups to be broken apart into factions are extremely right. I remember I lost alot of friends from a forum I use to go to long ago, because of my personal beliefs.

That's why I'm so thankful for places like CAA! I'd had a few friends recommend Gaia to me before I found this site, but it just didn't click with me or some of my views. Not that it's a bad place, but defending my faith and values via internet is not something I do very well; I either go way overboard or say nothing at all and feel bad about it. Here I can discuss any issue (anime or real life) and know I'll get supportive and Godly responses.

That nintendo link doesnt work. Says the post has been deleted.
I take it that's a good thing?

I don't like it when ppl lie about Christianity either. I'm reading this book at the moment called Jesus and the god's of the new age, bout these ppl who goto multi-religion things and have a stand for Biblical Christianity, books about how they deal with all the various faiths.

A chapter is dedicated to Christ's missing years, were ppl have came up with stories that he went to India and Japan and mastered the teachings of Buddhism and hinduism and Taoism then went to Israel to preach the stuff so christians should really be Buddhists....

Then it gets stranger... says Christ never died on the cross, it was his brother who took his place. Christ returned to Japan with his wife Mary Magdelene and died there at age 108.
Another version uses the 'swoon' theory, then Christ left for Tibet...

What is so hard about taking the Bible and believing it? Ppl believe conspiracy theories, stories, rumours, myths and legends despite any and all evidence against them but when it comes to the Bible, supported by History and Archaeology and Geography, ppl disbelieve it.....
I am the Reaper of Souls... and it's harvest time.

It is hard, because when you believe the Bible, you can't help but accept the truth of the claim that Jesus Christ is the one and only divine savior of the world. That is a rather difficult claim to accept for many people, since it necessitates a radical lifestyle change.

I tried the link, and it didn't work. I suppose that means that the post was deleted, which is probably for the best.

For me, the type of response to outrageously anti-Christian claims depends on the rules of the forum. If no debate is allowed, then I simply post a polite response in order to get the correct view out there, and then ask that any further discussion be taken to PMs. The way I see it, if someone breaks the rules and posts an inflammatory and obviously incorrect opinion, it is only right that the alternate viewpoint should be given a change to present itself. If you feel that you can adequately answer the claim in a respectful manner, then by all means do so.

However, if the forum does allow debate, then you should answer them as far as it goes while still being respectful. The point about factions is irrelevant. Do you think that Paul felt bad that he created a "faction" of Christians out of the unbelievers of his day? Not at all! Besides, if the person is offended by your beliefs, it does no good to hide them. Would you want to be friends with someone who finds your most cherised beliefs offensive? It would be better to be honest, sharing the gospel with all of it's controversy, rather than keep things civil and send your friend to hell without ever hearing the gospel.

yeah people misunderstanding Christianity sucks. My parents think Christians are a bunch of Republicans disguising themselves as christians so they can get people to vote republican, oh and they want to steal your money too. Don't even ask what being Rebulican insinuates my parents are a bit party biased (for the Democrats, i'm impartial). people being totally off base and refusing to see any differant bothers me. heck i make it a point that even if i disagree with someone to listen to them enough so i actually understand what there talking about. everyone has a reason for beleiving what they do right or wrong and its easier to talk to them if you actually listen and understand that reason. heh sorry i'm raving now :hits_self
