March 23? So early? I was expecting it'd be released around early summer to late fall...but then again Zelda 64 was delayed FOREVER before it finally got released, so maybe March 23 is getting our hopes up...

Yeah, I've got a feeling it'll be out later than that too. As Mr. Miyamoto once said, "A late game is only late until it's released, but a bad game is bad forever." So, as torturous as is it to wait, I really hope they take their time with it and get it juuuuust right!

I would take any release date for this title with a grain of salt...

...and especially release dates gained from any stores like ebgames as those companies often tack on release dates to upcoming games before they know the date for sure.

...and considering that the game was just announced...

So, yeah, that isn't an accurate release date.

I've been browsing some websites and some refer to this game as "Wind Waker 2"...a bit odd, considering that this uses an entirely different graphics engine. The traditional pattern of releasing Zelda games is that they come in pairs, meaning that every two games, a new zelda universe is established. The pairs are Legend of Zelda and the Adventures of Link, LttP and LA, Oracle series, OOT and MM. With the exception of Lttp and LA, each pair has been released on the same console.

Is the pattern being broken this time around? Or is the sequel to Wind Waker the Minnish Cap for GBA? So then, is zelda2005 directly related to OOT?

*head explodes*

What I got out of it was that Minish Cup was the "sequel" like you described, and this new game in fact has nothing to do with Wind Waker. At least, I thought I heard that this game involves a totally new universe...

And now we descend into the darkness of semantics gone wrong. For the sake of my question, I shall first set up a number of definitions:
sequel (form 1): a new game in the Legend of Zelda Series
sequel (form 2): refers to a game featuring the same physical Link

Majora's Mask was a sequel (2) to Ocarina of time, whereas Wind Waker was a sequel (1). Minnish Cup seems to be a sequel (2) to Wind Waker, though primarily due to the fact that Link appears to be the same in both games.

Now for my actual question, which should be answered only by someone with information from some official source: is this new game a sequel (2) to any specific game in the series or a sequel (1) ?

Nintendo however confirmed to IGNcube that the newly redesigned title does in fact run on a modified version of the Wind Waker engine. The company also revealed that the new Legend of Zelda is in fact not a remake of any kind, but instead an entirely original undertaking.

That's a quote from IGN...the best info I know of at the moment. I guess you could interpret "original undertaking" to mean either one, though...I took it to mean that it was a new story and not directly connected to the WW story. I could easily be wrong.

In 2005, Link will be let loose on a new and exciting Nintendo GameCube excursion to fight evil and seek treasure.

This is from Nintendo's official site...yea from what inkhana said, this probably is a new story, considering that the quote mentions nothing of a sequel to Wind Waker...if it was a direct sequel, Nintendo out of all places would mention it. So this probably is an "original undertaking"

Do any of you have a link to the video clip directly? I really don't want to join anything, and this computer is one of the nastiest machines I have ever worked on... so a direct Link (I kill myself) would be best.

Uc pseudonym, do you have Quicktime? If you do you could just view the trailer at the Nintendo site for free, without signing up for anything.

Well here's a link to the trailer from nintendo.com, 2722 k:

I do, and thank you. Very cool. I wish it ran slightly slower so I could see some of the cooler stuff in better detail, but this is still very promising.

This is DEFINITELY the same Link from OoT! Just look at his face! There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that this is the long, long-awaited REAL sequel to the best Zelda game ever. Majora's Mask was just a boiling pot, only having Link as a kid...but now we finally get him only as a teen! WOO HOO!!!

Actually if you notice, the Link in OoT had blonde hair, this one has brown.

I'm personally thinking its an all new Link.

Somthing to point out

Postby DragonSlayer » Mon May 17, 2004 12:14 pm

If you notice,In the intro to the wind waker it speaks of a time not recorded in the Zelda games where Gannon returned and there was no hero to defeat him, perhaps this is amodified version of the second Line of Hylian Hero's?

Yes, I would appreciate higher detail, and if I am on the proper computer it can be handled. Due to Windows XP, however, the link won't work at the moment, but I feel certain that I can correct this problem momentarily...

You have a problem with the video, UC pseudonym? Here's a link to the audio/video page of the trailer at the Nintendo site. Maybe the other link I gave you is a little messed up...

It works now, I just had to rip apart Quicktime's MIME associations and put them back together properly. Windows XP likes to connect some wierd ones that occasionally stop performances. Your new link is good as well. Thanks, I really did appreciate the higher detail.

His hair has always been light brown--but, depending on the light, it sometimes appears blond or even slightly orange. The best reference in this particular case is the official art. Brown! :thumb:

But does it matter if it is a new Link or old? We all know he'll start out with three hearts regardless, and gain a set of new yet often familiar items along the way.

True, but for some reason when I first saw the new Link, he reminded me of the old school Link, I'm no sure why though, oh well ^_^

In any case this is better

In any case this is by far the best graphical design to date.

A new Zelda game is always something for me to be excited about.

Whether it be cel-shaded or 'realistic', I'm just a fan of the franchise.

I doubt the hair color really matters as it depends somewhat on the graphical style of the particular game.

I think this game will take game of the year and a lot of other rewards in NP like ww did.

If it lives up to its expectations, it probably will.
