What anime are you watching?

Anyway, I just finished Macross: Do you Remember Love?
I loved it.
It fixed everything that went wrong with the tv series and made it better.
(Of course, you had to have watched the anime first to understand what was going on a lot of the time. That didn't bother me, in fact I thought it was pretty cool.)

I think DYRL has enough of a jaw-dropping spectacle factor that it can be enjoyed without knowing what's going on -- at least, that was my experience. But anyway, yeah, it's lovely

What really impresses me about how incredibly beautiful it is is that everything you see in this, aside from the robots, is pretty much ordinary stuff. There wasn't any shots to emphasize the scenery or anything, it just had this incredible look to this mundane, kind of bland world.

That's a nice point, well-put. The special edition booklet says the film's interested in how development in Tokyo is (or maybe, given when the film was made, was) replacing older styles of building. Thus the meticulously-drawn old structures and demolition sites.

And more generally I suppose a basic starting-point for Patlabor is 'it's just exactly like our mundane reality, but with Labors'.

I watched Kimi Ni todoke earlier this year / late last year. And loved it, when I seen the second season out I legit watched all 12 episodes in 1 day it was so addicting and amazing. I love this anime ! I definitely want to cosplay Sawako sometime (: . <3! ! God Bless! !

Yeah, I'm in the camp of people who've seen DYRL but haven't the actual series, but I loved that movie nonetheless. It makes me want to see the actual series just for more Max, Roy Fokker, and Miria.

I think what the really genius part about Patlabor is how much effort Headgear put into thinking about how the world would be if it had the Labors.

Also, if you can return Jyu Oh Sei, do so. I'm not kidding when I say it is the worst anime I've ever seen.

Recently finished Ghost Hunt. I like detective shows, but I can't recommend it for people who have particular difficulty with the all-too-common suggestion of Christianity being just like any other religion. Also it seemed to me to get grittier near the end of the series.

Right now I've started both Stein's;Gate and The Tatami Galaxy, and once I'm caught up in the former and have finished the latter, I'll watch AnoHana. I'm one of the dozens and dozens of people who has yet to see all three.

In Bleach, I'm slogging through the "Hueco Mundo" arc, which I was warned would be somewhat less than exciting. In Naruto: Shippuuden, I just finished the "Pain" arc, and am in all the backstory flashbacks just after it. I hope to catch up in Shippuuden by the end of the summer, and Bleach by the end of the calendar year.

I disagree.

Jyu-Oh-Sei is not a masterpiece by any stretch, neither is it flawless by any stretch. However, for mindless and entertaining science fiction? It's really fun. (It has killer plants. Really. Killer plants rock.)

Well, I finished Clannad about a week ago, and since then I haven't been able to get myself to watch another anime simply because I don't want to forget it. Seriously though, how is this different from LOGH, apart from the conversations being about political theory/military strategy instead of philosophy? I know you've only seen the first movie, but that's pretty much an extended OAV episode.

Also, to be fair, much of the talking comes straight from Shirow's original manga.

I read the first 100+ chapters of the manga. It's a pretty standard shounen, but I really enjoyed the characters and kept hoping for some romance (yeah, I know, with shounen it doesn't happen). And I thought it was a lot of fun.

Actually yes. However, you'll likely wonder what all the fuss is about, since the anime seems aimed at those who enjoy seeing some of what their favorite characters did in their younger years. The feel and quality of that movie just were not commensurate with those of the series.

D.Gray-man episode 4 - I saw that coming, nyah nyah The lip-synch during the singing was laughable...but overall, I'm enjoying it so far. And yes, I'm planning on watching the English dub too, but I have this...personal policy or something, where I just have to watch something in its original language first. Unless something really throws me off this show, I'm planning on doing the whole shebang - sub, then dub, then read the whole manga to where it is now.

But...I just have to wonder...how come I keep on unwittingly starting out so many Shonen Jump shows when I hate Shonen Jump? D: For those who've seen more of it than I have, how far does D.Gray-man go in terms of shonen cliches?

Erm.... *shrug* Don't know. It does have quite a few. But there are also times when it breaks out of it. However.... a good chunk of the anime is pure filler.

Here's the thing, I don't have a problem with cheesy stuff, I mean, I love Macross: Do You Remember Love, and that is way cheesier than any killer plants, but the execution of the story itself is done poorly.

[spoiler]Thor "falls in love" with that one girl after she tries to kill him? At first I asked what the difference between that and Max and Miria falling in love after Max defeats Miria in one-on-one combat, but Meltraedi customs aside, Macross is a very optimistic work. It also has some consistency. DYRL? knows it's a cheesy movie and keeps its tone in line with that, aside from the ocassional dramatic moment that keeps the story somewhat in line. Jyu Oh Sei has some ridiculously stupid things happen and the whole thing is done in this grimdark tone.

Tiz and the Third die completely meaningless deaths that were literally thrown in there. Would FMA be better if it just showed a random scene of a rock falling on Havoc? No, that would be a terrible use of its characters and since Arakawa can write she didn't throw in random crap to screw up her story.

What was the name of that pacifist guy, Jagi? He just randomly becomes a wandering murderer who decides to be good once Thor tries to kill him? Why is he never held responsible by anyone for the hundreds of people on his hands, yet when the one girl dies, suddenly its time to just kill this guy?

Also, the plan that the government had at the end was pretty lolwut? And then the soldiers try to stop Thor, but then literally decide after shooting him to switch sides and save the planet.[/spoiler]

This was a really awful crappy show.

Alright, whose idea was this? Ugh...Just...blegh. Well, I can't really call this movie a disappointment because I knew it was bad going into it, but...yeah...it's pretty mediocre stuff. The story itself is OK, but the aesthetics are just terrible. When you're making a movie about an established 110 episode series, you can't change the aesthetic. It's such a big part of LoGH.

There's also a ton of footage that is nothing more than reanimated stuff we've seen already. For a 40 minute movie, that's bad. And the villain just does not belong in the LoGh universe. Imperial soldiers just aren't that.

This is the worst part of a very enjoyable series. It really had none of the voice that the rest of the series had.....at all!

I am watching the prequel series of LOTGH right now.

Also...

Tiger and Bunny - still good! episode 13 is some silver age comix goodness.

X-men ep. 9-10- they finally get to the main push of the series and it is all in exposition? I really like the fact that the characters are accurate, but the story is lacking.

DeVadasy - why oh why didn't anyone warn me about this?! A mech that is powered y libido? REALLY?!

Assemble Insert - old gag comedy about a girl super hero who trips over herself and cleans up the town from a gang of mech criminals. Seemed like it was the beginning to a series that was never made. That's a good thing.

Third season = filler so bad the final arc of the manga was never animated (though it looks like it might finally be done)

OVAs 1 + 2 = my very favorites pieces of anime EVER...a must watch after the first two season
