One thing I love about anime are the theme songs. They're so cool to listen to, especially if they fit the show.
So, let's post our favorite anime themes. But there's a catch: although you can post as many times as you like, you can only post one theme song per post!
I'll start with the first one I ever fell in love with:
.hack//sign: "Obsession"
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."

'Boy', by The Alfee was the opening theme for Figure 17. It seemed incongruously exciting until I reached the first fight scene.

According to Wikipedia, The Alfee have been making music since '74, and have done songs for a tonne of TV shows.

This wasn't the first anime opening I ever heard/saw, but it was the first one I paid attention to, the first one that evoked an entire show for me, and the first one I memorized the short version of completely:

"Melissa" from Full Metal Alchemist
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

I see Guns & Roses, Tank!, and Inner Universe were already posted...

Let's see... Can I post two if they're technically the same song, but different versions? The reasoning behind that is because one is pretty spoiler-ish, but I personally think it's the best rendition of the song.

This Illusion. (Fate/Stay Night, Visual Novel, OP1.)
Contains Spoilers. Disillusion 2010. (Fate/stay night TV Reproduction OP) Contains Spoilers.

The first version is pretty haunting, actually. The second feels... More up-beat? It's got slow moments, sure, but...

Some discerning people have already posted some of the best ones there are, but with two glaring omissions:

"Gravity" by Yoko Kanno, sung by Maaya Sakamoto (could you ask for more?) Wolf's Rain ED
"It's Gonna Rain" by Bonnie Pink, Rurouni Kenshin 4th ED

Rurouni Kenshin: Heart of Sword by T.M. Revolution

It's indeed very hard to choose. Though since a lot of you posted some that would be on my list, that makes my job easier.

One I never get tired of listening to is the first ED to Casshern Sins: Reason - KANA

My absolute favourite anison is supercell's Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari, the ED for Bakemonogatari. While I do love Bakemonogatari, I'm also a huge supercell fan and this song is the epitome of everything I love about them. The album art for the single is a fantastic piece by Miwa Shirow that's been my desktop background forever. The composition and instrumentation is a mix of my favourite supercell Vocaloid songs, Melt and Hajimete no Koi ga Owaru Toki, displaying ryo's awesome piano rock style. Being supercell's first non-Vocaloid song, there's the beautiful vocals by yanaginagi. And of course, the Bakemonogatari ED animation and the tie-in to episode 12 were both masterful.

Wow, there are so many themes here. I honestly love every single one I hear, even if I don't at first. But, for the first theme I post I will have to do Grip from Inuyasha. It was the first real anime I saw and this was the first anime theme I liked.

Mm...yes. Obsession remains to be my favorite anime theme. The graphic representation always, to me, tied into the .hack series' mysterious aura of, "Wait, what, why, what?" A close second would probably be Wolf's Rain's "Stray", though.

Oh goodness, choosing one just one song is very hard, but I'm going to go with Angel Beats!'s My Soul, Your Beat. I love the entire composition and the piano is stunning.

Khaki - ARIA's themes are amazing!

@Mouse - I love the Dango song too! It's so cute and amazing!

@Crystal - Kimi ni Todoke FTW!
