This. I can go from using it every sentence to not using it at all, depending on who is around. I floored my dad the other day when I dropped the F-bomb on him (was quoting something a friend of ours always says). Other than that my parents never really hear me use that kind of language, except for the s-word, which is understandable because I walk around in it all the time (I work on a dairy).

I really don't swear a lot in real life, not counting a few bust-ups. I've really programmed myself to avoid it.

I don't swear out loud. I tend to substitute my words with creative sayings ("Son of a Nutcracker" or Sweet Davey Jones", What in Valhalla?", etc.). If I swear, something must have REALLY riled me up, but so far, it hasn't come to that yet.

It was a time when I kind of fell away from God. In that time, I swear a lot. I used a lot of b****, hell and the f-word. I had those words in almost every sentence I said. Of course I never swear infront of my parents or people in church, but at school and other places. Yep, I had a really bad mouth. Now, I don't swear anymore. Well, I do say sh** out loud sometimes (a bad habit). But I am working on it. ^^

@ Shiroi-Yeah it's not really(Although most people think it is.). Only if the emotions behind the word(Which means you can make any word a curse word) are filled with anger or it makes another stumble is when it can be bad. Other than that I do not see much problem with it.

I really try not to curse, though I used to a lot. It started to be a problem between me and my family though, especially with younger kids around.

I rarely cuss out loud, but I have before. When I'm upset I'll cuss in my head. I use 'crap' regularly though. Since I can't control the word around young kids I've tried to stop, yet I so fail at it.

I agree. Especially since I said I don't do it in front of people who are "higher" than myself or people whom I know are offended by it. Self-control has very little to do with it, I think, unless you're talking about those folks who just let them rip in every sentence. In that case, yeah, I think a little self-control would be good, but saying the F-word in every sentence is not the worst thing one can do.

Yes, many people I know who curse can control it, but some cannot, and those people would be better off getting used to never cursing.

I kinda never curse. But words such as sh** and a** aren't really curses, they're just rude. I don't really care what people use so long as they aren't throwing about God's names.

I swear when I'm angry or hurt or frustrated but not much otherwise. Like today, I woke up late for school and let a d word fly a couple times. Usually don't swear beyond d*mn or h*ll unless I'm really angry. Then it's can be pretty nasty. I used to swear a lot, but I'm very thankful that God is healing me of my bad habit. It was almost an addiction where I didn't feel normal if I didn't use the f bomb at least three times a day.

I try to look at it like: If I swear, I'm not smart enough to figure out an adjective to say before hand, or just not say anything at all.

Also on the topic of D... and Hell It's up to inturpritation, like I consider the place Hell to be terrible, but not a curse word (but a curse if it's someone yelling at someone to go there) there are too many words like that, so I guess it's what you believe the line is.

I surpass the AVGN and NC in cursing...to a few of my cousin's at least (and only for a short period of time). Hooray for minor cultural differences that make certain words curse words that aren't really considered curse words by me.

I say this because my parents are still of the belief that once you cuss, your whole argument goes out the window. I'm not as conservative but heck, if you have to swear than you're not that creative, sorry.

Yes, but that's in an argument, and no one was specifying arguments. Just in general.

Swearing like most people here do is as an interjection- a work that expresses an isolated emotion or sentiment in one word. We have ones that have positive connotations- 'wow', 'awesome', 'amazing', ones with negative ones- 'crap', 'darn'.

But sometimes a situation calls for something a little stronger. For instance, this last weekend my brother slammed the car door on me. On my head, specifically. Mildly negative interjections could not properly express the pain that I felt. So yes, the stronger ones were used as I was in a large amount of pain and felt the need to express that.

I'm not perfect. But the whole idea of being a Christian isn't to blend in and be like everybody else; it's to be a positive influence. And that kind of influence isn't achieved by being like everybody else and occasionally asking people to come to church or consider Jesus. Why would they; you're just like them, no better.

But seriously, peer pressure. It usually bends towards the negative. Again, I speak from experience, not because I'm some perfect being.
