Is it okay to watch Blue Exorcist?

Postby dothackzero » Wed Apr 20, 2011 2:09 pm

Humans live in the world of Assiah, demons in Gehenna. The two dimensions are not meant to interfere with each other, but demons still possess creatures in Assiah in spite of this. The humans who can fight these demons are known as exorcists. Rin Okumura is a boy who bears the curse of being Satan's illegitimate son. His foster father sacrificed himself to save him from demons. To avenge his foster father's death as well as to prove himself, Rin decides to follow the path of an exorcist.

I'm sure you've already read the thread on Beelzebub. The same answer applies here:

If you feel it's against your convictions or that God has told you not to, then don't watch it. If you feel that it's okay, then go right ahead.

I myself have read some of the manga and enjoy it. But it doesn't go against my convictions. There are others here that would find it against theirs and not read it.

But no one can tell you 'yes' or 'no', because they aren't you and don't have your connection with God.

I haven't really gotten any convictions about it. It's just that when I was watching it. It was oh yeah, Rin is the son of satan. It was more of shock thing than a conviction. Basically, I think it's my own mind that's making me wonder if it's okay with God...

The thing is, because we are human and falible, none of us can say for sure whether it's okay with God or not. We know that if He disapproves, we get some sort of message about it. But there is no absolute authority or knowledge that it is or is not okay with God. This is also an individual thing- God sometimes tells one person it isn't okay while He tells another it is.

So the best idea is to pray about it for a few days. You'll come to some sort of answer.

Yeah, pray about it and try to give it up or wean yourself off of it so if the answer is No you will be able to ya know, obey. :) God bless you!
BTW I stay away from stuff with demons not out of conviction but out of the fact that it simply offends me. Is that God's way of sneaking convictions into my heart? I wasn't offended by demons before I became a Christian so it probably is. Thanks!

^ What Atria said. As a rule of thumb, if you're unsure about something generally better to stay away until you have prayed about it, and if you're still unsure, well...it's up to you? But staying away doesn't hurt. :) If you're "should I watch this or not?" through an entire anime you aren't going to enjoy it anyways. :/

For myself, when it comes to anime, devils and the like are usually so far removed from the real thing that it doesn't bother me.

Here's Mewster's words of wisdom:
If confident, go for it.
If in doubt, do without.

So if you still are in doubt it's better to skip Blue Exorcist so you don't violate your conscience.

Ah, it's like watching Hellboy -- on one level its the old struggle between good and evil, and it's just the parentage of the main character that causes the problem.

As the Newster said, if your conscience is tugging at you, it's better to give it a pass.

As Christians, we all face the same questions of conscience every day. "To your own self be true" sums up. Some Christians have no problems watching it; others are at the other end of the specturm. All are loved and cherished by the Almighty.
