Webroot Math Fail is Fail

Postby Dante » Mon Dec 27, 2010 4:02 pm

See webroot fail at math, fail webroot fail. I love my anti-virus, but their lack of math skilz is worthy of lolz.

Webroot AntiVirus with Spy Sweeper

Renew Webroot AntiVirus with Spy Sweeper

* 1 year renewal
* Protection for 3 PCs

$ 49.95

Save $20 when you add another year of security. That's a savings of more than 40%!

* Total Price after Upgrade = $79.95

But two years at 49.95 would be about $100.0, 40% off 100 is of course 40, hence the price with 40% off would be around $60.00 not $79.95. That's just 20% off. amirite?

For the lolz

Or they mean that you save 20% overall, which is 40% off the second year, like the numbers say. It's not as clear as it could be, but what you've quoted is not by itself a math fail.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Yeah, without the special deal, it would be $49.95 for the second year. But you're only paying $30 for the second year.... which gives you a marginally higher than 40% saving (I think the biggest wrong thing is they claim it's "more" than 40%... that doesn't really count).

But it's worded as though you're paying for two years as a single product, so it sounds as though you were getting 40% off the total product price. If it's designed to decieve, that's not even wrong - it's evil.

You don't add percentages like that... If I buy 5 things at 20% off, I don't have a 100% discount... I still have a 20% discount.

Buy 4, get one free! That's 100% off!

I should go into marketing.
