You kids today and your fancy Toonami.

When I was your age I had to set the VCR for Sailor Moon every day because it came on DURING school at 2:30 in the afternoon! Then I had to tape a note on the TV telling my dad not to change the channel when he woke up for work after we'd gotten on the bus so that we wouldn't videotape the Weather Channel or CNN or something! Then we had to REWIND the tape back to the beginning so we could see the episode!

And then after Sailor Moon was canceled in syndication I had to set the VCR to record it on USA network at 8 AM after we'd gotten on the school bus! And USA edited it even more heavily than the dub was originally! And... *starts rambling incoherently*

Ooh! Ooh! Well, that would be...uh... not an anime, actually.

Nope, it was a video game. Zelda, to be exact. The Ocarina of Time. It kind of just so happened that I became a Link fangirl... and that's what led me to start watching anime.

The actual first anime I watched was Princess Tutu.

Lucky girl. I have been a fan for almost 13 years, and I just finished that show. An excellent series to start out with!

The first anime series I watched were the Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-gi-oh, and that awful One Piece 4kids dub.

However, the gateway that got me interested in anime was the series Azumanga Daioh.

Let's start from the beginning, shall we? When I was six, my dad introduced me to the wonderful Speed Racer, his favorite show from childhood (it was recorded on a VHS from MTV via his brother). I watched every episode available on it, and really liked it. It's been a new year's tradition ever since to watch at least 1 episode on new years. My cousins loved Pokemon, and I thought it was cute, but I had no idea what it was or wear to watch it, so never did. I even caught a little bit of Mew Mew Power and DBZ back in the day on WBKids, but had no interest.

Then, About 6 years ago, I got my real my real start into anime/ manga. Initially, I was intruiged by the art style, and began to copy it, but was turned off by the dvds in best buy that were all

. that. then I was in the library, and read a couple of OELs, like Peach Fuzz and Dramacon(didnt really understand this one but now i do due to all the con jokes). I was a hardcore reader, and wanted some 'alternative' reading, and came across Princess Ai and, my first REAL manga, Tokyo Mew Mew. I bought them all eventually, and loved them ALL. I told everyone I knew they HAD to read it. That lead to my first REAL anime: the fansubbed version of Tokyo Mew Mew on the then fledgling Youtube. This also introduced me to the AMV. My next favorite was

And was introduced to the anime in my library's 'Jpop club,' which gave me a full view into the otaku world. I watched the series through my library, which owned it. Then, when we were about to move away, I bought my first anime DVD: Princess Tutu . And the rest, my friends, is history.

Reading this makes me want to cry. Out of all the amazing series out there......

Wasn't Princess Ai that one manga based on Courtney Love or something?

*checks* Oh wow...yeah, it was.

I'm sorry, Airi. Between this, Gundam Seed, and Naruto...you truly are the newest of new to anime, huh? It's okay. We'll make it better. We'll recommend you GOOD series. So you can leave these days far, far behind, and look back on them and weep as to what kind of person you were then.

It's something my youngest sister is still watching movies on. It's something that I have to fix the tracking on if I want to watch Chicken Run, Toy Story, Monsters Inc., and any of many other movies on a whim.

Oh, I forgot about Shakugan No Shana. I never finished the series, but I started it some years back... I've been away from anime for a while too... I also have a feeling that there are others I've forgotten.

I didn't post in this thread yet??? O.o

OK, so I'm sure like most of you, or alot of you, my first anime was Pokemon. My second was Cardcaptors, which was my favorite! My bro and I were one of the few lucky ones to see "Revelations Pt.2" on Kids WB before it was cancelled *sigh*. We stopped watching Pokemon after Season 4, it was just losing it's story-quality. The movies appear to still be good though, at least up until their voices were changed >.< But ahh....Kids WB. Those were the days.

Probably Dragon Ball Z. But honestly Gundam Wing is what got me hooked on the stuff.

I also watched Speed Racer but didn't know it was anime at the time.

I bought all of Tokyo Mew Mew. Not Princess Ai. Cuz she looked like a skank. I did read it all tho. Wasnt half bad for an OEL. (which isnt that good let me tell ya). And I know TMM was crap NOW.

To be honest, most of my first series' were all crap series b/c it was all the library had for manga.

HEY. Even I stopped watching Naruto Shippuden last year. And I read the manga occasionally.

And I will have you know, this is what you get when you hardly watch anything besides Nick Jr., Nick, and Disney channel reruns on TV, with no cable, for the first 13 years of ur life. So no DBZ, no 4kids one piece, no Pokemon, no Mew mew power, no Toonami, and no Sailor Moon (after watching TMM I desperately wanted to tho, but couldnt watch it) then in the space of 5ish years I became otaku to the level of spending my life savings at a Con (ok $300).

So Im not the newest of the new: I know my stuff. Trust me: I just need to get to know the classics.
