I did a re-watch of Banner of the Stars II over winter break, and was pleasantly surprised to realize that I had completely forgotten how good it was. One of my favorite anime titles, for sure. I never tire of Admiral Spoor.

Also watched the two special episodes of Honey and Clover (chapters L and F), which I somehow overlooked before. They were...er...quite something. I thought that Chapter L was hysterical. I love the zany brand of humor that is Honey and Clover. =)

I watched "The Sky Crawlers" yesterday. It was not as good as I thought it would be, but it wasn't bad. Very melancholic. ^^

I'm picking up Tatami Galaxy again, starting at episode 5...I have been told that episode 4 is the fanservice peak, which revolted me, but if that's the worst point...yay. Because I really, really loved this otherwise, and look forward to finishing. :)

EDIT: Yep, LOL! xD Still way fun (when there's not the fanservice).

Watched the Tsubasa OVAs again WITH COMMENTARY!! Oh man, the commentary for episodes 2 & 3 of Tokyo Revelations were interesting, explaining how the mixing/sound editing goes, and how they market, so I learned alot. But the commentary for the first episode, and all 2 episodes of Spring Thunder, were absolutely HILARIOUS! I couldn't stop laughing! (Especially the one with Vic & Michelle).

After reading that 2chan, the infamous home of all otaku, voted Tantei Opera Milky Holmes the best anime series of 2010, I checked out the first episode out of some kind of morbid curiosity.

There was absolutely no warning about the crude humour awaiting me. Despite looking like it should be in the same timeslot as My Little Pony, within the first half they'd already made lesbian jokes, and poked fun at a (male) characters erect nipples which looked like sausages.

What. The. Heck.

I now have many, much more terrifying, reasons to give it a skip.

Wow. :eh: I didn't expect that, it looked so....innocent and mellow. This is good to know.

I also started Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom. I've been wanted to watch it for a while, and finally decided I was going to start it so there. I enjoyed the first episode, and was not disappointed, though I look forward to it (hopefully) picking up. =) I like the character designs, but think the opening credits are probably the weirdest I've seen--though I think this reasoning is solely because I wasn't expecting something slow and soft and weird and surreal to an assassin show.

Watched Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro yesterday.

The older art is not exactly my cup of tea, but it grows on you and the movie is lots of fun. Just as it was finishing my mom came in remarked that it looks a lot like Heidi (Girl of the Alps -it was (and still is) a very popular kids show) and so then of course I had to explain the whole Hayao Miyazaki etc. connection.

Now and Then, Here and There 4-13 (complete)- I honestly don't know if I could have gotten up the heart to finish this if I hadn't marathoned it. It didn';t have the same emotional impact as some other anime, but it still made me feel and cry a bit.

I will never be able to watch it again.

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom (Episode 20)
There are apparently three parts to this series, and the switches between each section is HUGE in mood, and even soundtrack. I just hit the third section, it would seem. The thing that always remains the same though is the constant repeat of tragic events. I'm starting to wonder what the point is. Really, there isn't one... unless you just 'like' the series, which I pretty much do. It's either one of my FAVORITES, or on my hate list. Can't quite decide, even now when I'm about to finish it... I at least like several of the characters, though.

Princess Tutu - Complete

If this is magical girl, then I want in.

I was really worried that I would be disappointed by the series, as it has been getting mad hype on the podcast. But it is just such a fun, heart-warming, weird show that I couldn't help but dig it. The second half, especially the last ten episodes or so, is really spectacular. I knew going in about the deconstructive nature of the series, but it really went beyond what I expected and surprised me. Plus, things get absolutely bat crazy during the climactic episodes. And the ending...glorious. Simply glorious. Not since Fantastic Children has an ending been as satisfying for me.

1-27 = 8/10, 4/5.
28-38 = 9/10, 4.5/5.

Birdy the Mighty: Decode episodes 1-13 Complete

So I'm watching anime again. Hard to believe, am I right? After about, what, eight months of not watching anime for longer than one to two episodes very sporadically, I decide to pick up Birdy because I remember some people lavishing praise all over it and Eden of the East is rated whatever the R version is for Funimation so I can't go watch it there.

It did not disappoint.

Starting off with a pretty neat space sequence, the show has some rather goofy-looking aliens, most of which look like large animals, being chased by Birdy, a interstellar cop wearing a uniform designed by Roy Mustang. Tsutomu, a hapless teenager, happens to be exploring an abandoned house because that sounds like a cool thing to do. As the criminal flees to hide in said house, Birdy and Tsutomu cross paths.

Then things begin to get even more awesome.

Shiki [complete]

Despite lots and lots of stuff happening throughout the last couple of episodes, pretty much nothing really happens. I know it is typical of horror movies to have an open ending, but can't you close even a single plot thread? Okay so I take that back, they did resolve things with the Monk. Too bad it was esoteric and "parable-ish" that it was totally incomprehensible.

Add on to that the fact that one of the only two characters in the series I liked died and several very notable hated characters got away free, and well I call it a rather unlikable "conclusion". Pity I didn't read the manga instead, at least that would have had some cool art. 5/10

Currently I'm going through Monster. I finished episode 10 the other day. I thought it was going to be one of those short 12 or 24 episode series, but I was surprised to learn it had 75. I'm probably going to be working on it for a while.

Been watching Digimon Adventure Zero Two lately. So much better than the dub. It has made me fall in love with Digimon all over again. I am getting close to the end with only about 20+ episodes left.

Also have been watching Fruits Basket and Shiki.
Fruits Basket is great. I love the characters and the comedy. It such a heartwarming tale and I have come close to tearing up at some episodes. I am almost done with only 6 episodes left to go, I am excited to see how it ends.
Shiki is great. As a Horror fan I am loving the classic Vampire stuff and none of that Twilight sparkle crap. The atmosphere is great, the mystery is intriguing and there are some decently creepy and scary scenes.

I also watched the first episode of K-On
I liked the first episode. It was fun and I look forward to the rest of the series.

Gintama (Ep 1-17) I have this guilty, growing affection for this series... T.T (Gah, who am I kidding, I loved it from the first moment on) I don't know, maybe this kind of humor just appeals to me. Regardless, it deserves attention for its... everything. It's about samurai, but with the aliens being there, they do anything from dressing as pirates to infiltrate a space ship, to getting hit by cars to getting fired for wearing sunglasses. There really isn't a plot yet... But every episode leaps into some new, hilarious arc, and 17 episodes in, I'm not even close to getting bored. And this is coming from me, who, more than almost anyone I know, HATE filler arcs, so this means a lot coming from me.

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom Despite earlier complaints about the series having no point, I take the side that says the ending was NOT meaningless. Granted, it's one of the more frustrating ones out there, and seems to spit in your face after spending hours rooting for Reiji and his ongoing goal...
All the same, after the beginning of the series being about how much he WANTED to live, it was almost a 'release' at the end to have him die. It makes you realize that the story, since the beginning, was about making Eren happy, and any delusions you had aside from that were false. It also looped back to his 'I kill to survive' stuff, and Scythe Master's death, being killed by Eren, closed off the story. It worked... quite well, actually, but it was still depressing.

Outside of plot matters, I think only two main characters actually lived. That pale, purple haired man, and Ein/Eren. Guess what? I wanted to cry at EVERY STINKING CHARACTERS DEATH except for Scythe Master's, and I was practically cheering for his. *hugs Cal * It was the most unfair, depressing series on EARTH. It has to be D':
