i'm only a few episodes into it atm, but so far i've quite enjoyed it. the story line is quite interesting. yomas are monsters that prey on humans. basically claymores which are hybrids of yomas and humans. claymores are assigned to protect humans. wikipedia has a good article with more story information, but i don't want to spoil it for you. it is a bit graphic though (yomas feed on the entrails of living victims), so i wouldn't watch it with the young children in my family. the music is pretty and the art is nice, lots of detail. i watch all of my anime in japanese so i'm not sure what the english dub is like : )

Finished Honey and Clover season 1. I picked this up recently almost solely because I found part 2 of the series in the $5 bin at Wal-Mart and went "hey, I might as well." It started off a bit awkward to me, and a little grating. The drama/comedy combinations felt very jerking. This was for the first maybe 7 episodes. Well, by the time I finished I loved it very much. The characters made me happy, the comedy made me laugh, and the drama made me feel. Look forward to starting the second season after I tie up other loose ends. =)

Finished Kino's Journey. It shares a lot with Mushi-shi, but it's interesting to contrast the style of the encounters in both. In Kino's Journey, we're encountering what's pretty much the typical sci-fi alien in human form. We have societies that are made up of people who share a common aspect of human behaviour. So instead of the angry, warlike aliens, we have the angry, warlike country of people. Mushi-shi's encounters are a lot more personal.

The other neat thing about Kino's Journey was that Kino was surprisingly proficient at being lethal.

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom 1-3- bourne Identity if they had taken him in and retrained him. Intriguing.

Kuragehime
11- I loved it. I loved this show so much. Wonderful ending!

Legend of the Legendary Heroes 3

Sora no Woto
3-4- restarted after a long pause because I discovered it was on Crunchyroll. Since it's pretty episodic, it was easy to just jump right back in. Yay!

So I finished Gundam Seed Destiny...argh it was horrendous compared to the original. SERIOUSLY, they HAD to add THREE more girls to fight over the same guy! Seriously writers, keep Athrun with the girl he proposes to, sheesh.

Starting Gurren Laggan- now JUST WHO DO YOU THINK I AM?????

I'm also thinking of dropping Bakuman and just reading the manga.

If anything the anime is TOO faithful. It doesn't add anything to the source that makes it stand out, so after reading a few chapters of the manga ahead of the newest episode... I'm struggling to justify carrying on with it.

Actually yeah no... sorry guys, it's not that you're a bad series, you're just not standing out.

Black Blood Brothers: (EP 1-2) I love the brothers' relationship to each other, and even though the series doesn't have the best 'quality' per say, it doesn't actually need it. I like it right where it is, and am thoroughly enjoying it...

Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom: (EP 1) This fits into a lot of the categories of things I like... Judging from only the first episode, this could easily be a favorite. It's cinematic, beautiful, deeply mooded, and the characters, while distant, can easily be related to. From the very first few moments, you can relate to the desire to live, even though you know nothing about them.

So, I got Funimation's Sengoku Basara boxset for Christmas. It certainly stands up to a rewatch, as it was just as fun and entertaining as I remember. Seeing the first season again also confirmed for me that I liked season two less because it just wasn't as good, not because the first was such a novelty. Don't get me wrong: I liked SB Ni, but it spent a big chunk of time introducing/developing new characters that, frankly, aren't as interesting as the ones we got in season one.

As an extra, Funi put a few episodes of Mini Sengoku Basara, six minute comedic shorts featuring SD characters from the series. I recommend this because, barring the initial bits of the first episode, it is quite hilarious. The episode in which Chousokabe and Morui are lost at sea, but neither one wants to admit that he is lost, is priceless.

Somewhere, ich rejoices because I also got Sword of the Stranger for Christmas. I have watched it twice and absolutely adore it. Dat animation. Warriors fight and die with varying degrees of brutality...and it looks gorgeous.

I am unsure of what to think of Millennium Actress. I think I will watch it again before I form a definite opinion.

Red Garden up through 16 -- this has been a challenge, but for some reason, some reason I just feel sheer determination to finish this near atrocity. Maybe because after half-way through it went from near atrocity to almost decent. I take issue with the horrendous language, but am now liking it. It's finally presenting an interesting setting, the characters are growing, and more questions are being asked and more answers, answered.

The script is still terrible though. I was feeling great amounts of emotion during a death scene and the character dead seriously says "he got me." And...I burst out laughing. Oh well, at least they haven't started singing again. :)

I believe it was the end of October or early November when I watched Time of Eve. It was short but sweet, and from what I remember, it was a pretty great show. Spurred a lot of deep considerations. I wasn't all that fond of the face style though...

I hunted down an episode of School Rumble that had Yuuki's voice in it so I could hear what she sounds like, because MajorArmstrong insists that I sound exactly like her. XD
That's Laura Bailey... However cool that would be, since she's one of my favorite voice actresses, I don't know, man. o__o

School Rumble seems pretty funny and ridiculous though... So many characters...

Saw Episode 00 of Kimi ni Todoke 2nd Season. I don't know how long I can wait for Episode 1 next week.
Whatever the season in life, the RIGHT attitude makes all the difference.

Shadow Skill TV - Complete

This is the most punishingly mediocre show that I have seen since I watched X TV.

It's annoying because I am a fan of the OVAs, so I did care about the two leads going in; however, this series did everything in its power to stop me from caring about them. And succeeded. About 2/3 of the way through, I realized that I didn't care about any of the characters, nor was I ever going to. I just wanted this show to end.

The creative team (of Studio DEEN) just did not know what they wanted to do. In hopes of something sticking, they really did throw all kinds of crap against the wall. Granted, there were a couple of promising concepts, but as soon as they are presented, the director moves on to the some different thing.

The plot itself was paced horribly, as these people do not know how to tell a story coherently. Characters show up, get entire episodes devoted to their seemingly-important tasks and histories only never to be heard from again. Logical inconsistencies and general head-scratch inducing decisions abound.

And the art. This series was made in 1998. Twelve years ago, yes, but its contemporaries are the likes of Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. Perhaps because the source material is of an older vintage, the character designs floated somewhere between The Slayers and Rayearth. Floated is the operative word here because the look of the characters would change every couple of episodes, sliding from one of end the previously mentioned scale to the other. And, no, it wasn't for artsy reasons. Also, the colors would go from muted to bright depending on the scene. Worst of all, on several occasions the animators panned the camera around a still shot of a character rather than animating something. Again, this was 1998 folks. Unacceptable.

Avoid this at all costs. Watch the OVAs if you would enjoy a thought-free half hour of martial arts action. But, don't follow up w/ this TV show.

Not at all. I like Slayers and I haven't seen Rayearth yet. I dig the character designs for both shows, though. It's just kind of grating having the same characters switching back and forth between (uglier renditions of) the two on the same show.

I finished Red Garden!!! First off, if you're watching English dub (which is all I could find) the language is BAD, and steady stream. It's a confused plot that mutates from its initial story into a different story leaving the initial questions unanswered and completely ignored. (Why did they die in the mansion? What happened there? What was WITH the mansion?) Characters irritating and unlikable. It decided to be a musical for two episodes then go back to its mishmash of drama, action, highschool drama and sentimental.

I am very glad I was doing stuff while watching this horrible thing.

I've watched up to episode 7 of Trigun with my mom...for the second time. -_- We are going to finish this series!

And I watched the whole series of Ergo Proxy in about a week! What a wonderful, thought-provoking series. The characters were great and I loved the psychological aspects of it, but that ending. Man, I'm sure that all through the final three episodes, my expression was:

So I was finally able to finish Bungaku Shoujo: Memoire, the OVAs that give the background on the major characters that aren't Konoha (Tooko, Miu, and Nanase). After finishing these, I think I realized what was wrong with the way they tried to adapt the light novels into anime. Bungaku Shoujo really has two main planks to it: the literature-related mysteries that Konoha and Tooko solve and the interpersonal relationships that Konoha develops with the major characters.

The anime adaptation only went for one of those, the relationships, which happened to not be the one that distinguished the series. The main story was found in the movie, which focuses on the resolution of Konoha's various relationships, while the OVAs give the background information. This doesn't really work because the movie was released before the OVAs, so there wasn't even any context for how the characters acted throughout the movie.

The OVAs themselves are just a compilation of various moments across the light novels that serve as background bits. It was probably a lot more interesting reading about them in the context of whatever mystery they were solving rather than as 'here's what this character's about'.

As someone who's already read at least a light novel and has some grounding in what Bungaku Shoujo's about, the movie and OVAs weren't too nonsensical, but for someone who hasn't read it, the Bungaku Shoujo anime is going to be incredibly underwhelming.
