7 Billion

National Geographic is running a year-long series on our growing population, and they created this video to kick it off. It's pretty interesting, and they have a page dedicated to this special series here.
[font="Tahoma"][SIZE="2"]"It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

ITS OVER 9000!

Sorry couldn't help myself. Ah, Malthusias would likely roll over in his grave at our major population growth, but I do think that it should be fine for a while to come - at least if we start to be less greedy in destroying our resources and don't waste vast quantities of precious metals and energy on killing one another. That is to say, if we use our world wisely and conservatively, it could provide a wonderful habitat for humanity to thrive on for generations and generations to come.

It's closer to a logistic function in the long term.
