When I first heard it years ago, I never heard of the band and had to check and see if the band was Christian cause I thought the lyrics very God directed. Although, when I heard it, I was going through a dark patch with depression and stuff. Maybe just thought it was talking about God cause that's how I wanted to feel about God who I felt disconnected from but knew I really needed him but just didn't feel like he was there. Also, the song was synced with clips from the movie Stay... a dreamlike, melancholy movie about a suicidal young man and a psychiatrist trying to stop him and figure out why he blames himself and wants to die (well there's a twist and it turns out the whole thing is in the mind of a dying man having a near death experience after a major car wreck. It used to be one of my favorite movies).
But yeah this song had me crying multiple times especially at the end where it picks up and I just always assumed it was about God. Even looking at the lyrics just now (haven't heard the song in years), I guess cause it's a guy singing it, it still seems very much like a song about God. I guess cause the guy is being so submissive... and words like hope, light, purpose, everything, take me deeper... etc etc etc.. I don't know yeah, I always thought it was a song to God.
I definitly get where you are coming from. Before October of this year I wasn't a very religious person though. I was very simple-minded and assumed any song that spoke of great love was between that of two people. Knowing God in least a little better, when I listen to this song now I can understand how it is about him. I had a similer experience when I found out what the song Pieces by Red was about, also God! However, since I've thought of them as love songs between people for so long, I can't just make that sentiment disappear completly either, so in the end, I can see the songs as being both about love between people or love for God, depending on how the song is used or how the person listning is feeling or interperts it.
In the end, I've come up with this little philosophy. God IS love! God is the one who has given us the ability to love, he literally created love! Therefore, wherever there is love then there is God as well. Wither it is love for another person, a pet, or God Himself. With that in mind, that means God can be found in any song about love, even if the artist didn't intend for the song to be about God at all. In least that's what I think. xD I'll shut up now, I'm probably not even making any sense.
Now, on to TheSubtleDoctor's song. I'll give it a 5/10. It wasn't bad, but it didn't catch my interest either. Sorry!

This is a cover of the original song by Iyaz, but I like this version better. I found this song kind of refressing with all the other crap you hear on the radio these days. Even if I like some of said crap, it gets annoying after not so long. One gets tired of songs being about drugs and sex or how great the artist is after awhile.
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
