Abstaining. I really want to see Rebuild, but I have to get a copy of it first.

I'm a pretty big Evangelion fan...but I'm gonna vote Working! here. I LOVED that show. It was funny, sweet and had some unique and fun characters. The setting was fun, each episode was better than the last, and it was completely new, unlike Eva.

Go Working!! Let's take down Goliath, people!

<4+Kuragehime>

Funny/sweet trap anime vs. badly-paced (though recently doing much better) vampire anime with strange hair?

It's a trap!

I love them both, but....

<8+Shiki>

I love the trippy art, I love the music, I love the pacing, characters, everything about it. That plus I'm fairly sure it's going to lose so it needs at least one vote. :P

Didn't Working get two votes?

Anyway, abstaining from this, haven't seen either.

I'm voting for the Princess Jellyfish! :D It's a really refreshing anime, and very different from anything I've seen.

CLARA! :D

I haven't seen enough of Shiki to really adore it or hate it yet... I only got to like episode 7, but the art style just...really freaks me out! XD

Wins, if only because the art style is consistent and enjoyable to look at.

It's actually pretty amusing that the two currently airing noitaminA shows wound up facing each other.

Both shows are good, but I'm kind of surprised that it's so close. I thought it would swing heavily towards one or the other.

<11 StarDriver>

I really like Bungaku Shoujo. I like the concept and I liked the first volume. Heck, I even liked the OVAs and the movie. But that's only because I have the necessary grounding from reading the first novel. The story that's presented in the movie requires so much prior investment in the characters that it doesn't work as a standalone movie and that's where I think it fails.

Star Driver is something I've been pushing and praising since before the first episode. It's got the perfect storm of the right people working on it and so far it hasn't disappointed me. Maybe I am a bit too forgiving, but this thing is totally my cup of tea. It combines the best of various genres that I like, it breaks a bunch of tropes, and it also does something that not many shows do now, which is having an episode structure that it strictly adheres to.

A show like Durarara!! is all about what's going to happen and what the characters do. Because the plot and much of the mechanics of the world of Star Driver is so structured and almost predictable, it becomes a show about why these things happen.

While it isn't my cup of tea and I am actually no longer watching it, at least it didn't have characters that I outright despised.

And there you have it, the first round is over. And here is your Round of 16:

Image

Ties
Now that we have some datums, ties will no longer be broken immediately by the power of randomness. Instead, we'll be using total score differential from here on out. Unless, of course, that's also a tie.

Matchups
Randomness was just for seeding. They'll be heading down their respective brackets in the normal way. This also means that you can trace out possible future matchups and vote accordingly taking into account the above.

9 December: Sora no Woto vs. FMA: Brotherhood
10 December: Summer Wars vs. Katanagatari
11 December: Black Rock Shooter vs. Cross Game
12 December: Ookiku Furikabutte: Summer Tournament chapter vs. Tegami Bachi
13 December: Eve no Jikan vs. HEROMAN
14 December: The Tatami Galaxy vs. Tamayura
15 December: Durarara!! vs. Rebuild of Evangelion 2.0
16 December: Kuragehime vs. Star Driver

We'll be taking a break today. Voting for the next round will begin in approximately 24 hours.

15th is going to be the hard one for me.

Everytime I make up my mind to vote for EVA 2.22 I think of a reason to vote for DRRR!! instead.

I think I'm going to have be hoping for Summer Wars to win this, though I doubt it can beat out Brotherhood. I don't think it's going to be hard for me until round 3, however.
