Rewatched The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Still awesome.

I saw the live action movie and decided to check out the anime. I'm enjoying so far.

Have you seen 12 Kingdoms? It has the same trapping but is better IMO. I think you'd like it a lot. That series was also based on a series of, I think twelve, light novels. The anime covers the first four and ends with an absolute glut of unresolved issues.blkmage wrote:and the eastern fantasy style of the whole thing.
Yup.blkmage wrote:The beginning and ending were surefine, but that middle was definitely slow.
Agh! Didn't intend to communicate that the show ought to be bypassed. Looks like the EoE movie issue all over again, eh? I just wanted to point out that high expectations dampened the enjoyment of it for me and not to get carried away before going in. It is a legit good show for sure, though not a masterpiece and not the best of its genre IMO.magey wrote:I think you're underselling it as if it were something to be avoided.

I watched Lovely Complex episode 11 last night, and now I'm watching Princess Mononoke with my sisters, who were always too young to see it before (they still kind of lurched and got grossed out when Ashitaka shoots that one guy's arms completely off). I'd forgotten how beautifully drawn it is. Though I don't care for the story at all, I really ought to give this movie more credit for how pretty it is.
Yeah, at times in the middle third the show really dragged. Plus, I felt like there was a ton of untapped potential with the world-building and mythology. Sure, we were getting an aspect of it, but the world felt so much bigger, and we were forced to wear blinders. Now, on the plus side, the animation was gorgeous (Production I.G....you guys...), and THE ENDING. Those last three episodes were fantastic.
I just hope that any CAAers who haven't seen it don't fall victim to the Moribito hype machine. I was expecting something unparalleled but only got something good (Hey blkmage, how 'bout those Eden of the East movies?). 12 Kingdoms does the ancient Chinese schtick a bit better and is deeper/more well-developed; however it does lack an actual ending. And again, Moribito's actual final episodes are awesome. Truncate the series in the remake.
Blessed be the LORD my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:
My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.
