I keep seeing good reviews for that. What's the story like?

Watched Star Driver, ep 1.
Characters look alittle thin (as well as chairs and other random items) and things here and there would look better with a soft blur effect around the edges. Other than that, the animation looked good. Sleek looking 'bots. - For some reason though I guess I'm not a mecha fan. (Maybe because the only other one I've seen is Martian Successor Nadesico. lol)

It means that while there are some logical inconsistancies and it's all a bit shallow and silly, I enjoy it. I actually had a lot of fun with the 4th episode, which was all about him trying to beat this one buggy dating sim. It was pretty funny.

I did Anime Day today!

Shiki 13- more drama, more death, and it's still DRAGGING. When are we gonna see some action?!

Rainbow 5-26 (complete)- This was addicting. An emotional drug. I laughed, I cried, and I loved this series. Definitely one that is going on my shelf if/when it's ever released. There was one thing that gave me a fridge logic moment,
when I realized that if they had gone to the police with the suicide note as soon as Anchan could get there, he may never have had to die. They could have had Ishihara and Sasake taken care of in one fell swoop. No drama with getting stabbed, no having to deal with Sasake trying to become mayor and getting Anchan killed, none of it.
And then I had a funny moment when I was watching this old American soldier speak.... with a young black dude's voice. I mean, they did SO well with the over English VA's, nary and Engrish to be heard, but they really dropped the ball with that one!

I finally finished Monster and Legend of the Galactic Heroes the other day -- they were both incredible. :D Still working on Fantastic Children, and I've also started Dennou Coil and Le Chevalier D'Eon.

Same here. A lot of unexpected things happen in this series, but -- like you said -- that's part of what makes it so awesome. ^^

I'm watching Lovely Complex now; I'm up to episode 4. It's wonderfully hilarious, and as much as I normally can't stand any kind of shoujo, I like the characters in this one. It's an interesting situation, that's for sure, and even though it's obvious what's going to happen eventually, it's refreshing to see the characters developing a friendship first.

Agreed. This is an incredible show.

Pretty hilarious, that.

So, I caught up with Cross Game this week. I have never seen anything like this show in terms of how subtly and really it communicates its characters feelings. Especially for the genres (slice-of-life, shounen sports, romance) this is quite refreshing. Maybe it is a mistake to throw out genre-terms when talking about this show. Not to be hyperbolic, but I think the series kind of trascends them...it's certainly the best example of each that I've seen (though I'm by no means an expert in most of those genres). Of the 30 episodes so far, there hasn't been a bad or off one, unless you count the recap episode (which isn't poor in terms of quality...you've just seen the footage before). This is one of those shows that the one episode test is perfect for. If you're not into it after one, then you probably should get out...though, really, I'd love to meet someone who didn't like the first episode. Watchy the show on Hulu or VizAnime.

Shiki 14
The World God Only Know 5- I think this girl will be my favorite. I heart yanderes!
Shinrei Tantei Yakumo 3-5- Eh. Still so-so. I'll finish it, but man...
Otome Youkai Zakura 1-2- Not sure what to think about this. I mean, it's a romcom, with none of the fanservice I expected. Nothing really ofensive in terms of humor. And while the 'fighting' seems silly, the whole thing just seems.... interesting.
Kuragehime 2-3- I don't love it yet, but I sure as heck like it! It made me smile.

How long did this take? Like 5 years? I am on ep. 40 of LOGH.

also...

Kakurenbo: Hide ans Seek - There are some great ideas in this short OVA, but the pacing and character development are way off.

Iron Man - 1-2 weak and slow

High School of the Dead - Watched the first episode almost on a dare. This seems like it has some good ideas, but.....can someone tell me why I should watch this? Where is it going?

Up to episode 8 of Tytania. Really enjoying this, although there seems to be some discrepancies with fleet sizes and firepower. I'm loving all the political intrigue though.

Ummm, no one else has said anything yet so I'll jump in. I'm not very demanding as far as plot or character development goes, but nothing stood out as terrible or spectacular. The show ends very abruptly without resolving anything that I expected to be resolved. If I had to hazard a guess I'd say it's about who we are underneath our civilized constraints but I didn't figure this out until the ending. It's a zombie show so the gore and violence levels increase. The fanservice gets even worse, very in your face and very prevalent. If the fanservice in the first episode bothered you stop watching! So that's where it's going, why should you keep watching it? I don't know. I finished it because I hate dropping shows and zombie shows remind me of good times with some crazy people I used to live with.

Save me, Lollipop! Six episodes in, and loving the random chaos. It's actually one of the only shojo anime I've had a PERSONAL interest in, which says... weird things about my interests? o.o Anyway, there's an unfortunately high amount of bad humor, but is otherwise funny and unexpected.

Heroman - Completed, pretty good series overall. Good if you are a robot fan and a Marvel mythology lover. There is greatness in this concept if explored more.

Cencoroll - If Salvador Dalí made an anime, I think it would be like this. Has anyone seen this? It is fantastic! Weird bloated monsters are controlled by school children. This is all handled in a slice-of-life pace and style. Not to mention the art is a weird mix of cell shading, photo realism and CG.

If you have seen this please speak up, I have never heard of it before I watched it.

Buso Renkin: Episode One
Pretty interesting so far, though it feels very much like several other far more familiar anime. I like it, and will be interested to see if it branches off to being a little more original. I left feeling that it was 'good', but there's little reason to believe it's going to be anything special.

It's not :/ Very much a Shonen Jump sort of anime. It has a few good points, but not quite enough to redeem it for me, unfortunately.

I watched Lovely Complex episodes 5-6, and couldn't stop laughing! This is probably the funniest anime I've ever seen, even including Kodocha.

So saddd! It brings a lot of thought to mind though, about killing and what the extent of it can do to people..

I loved and hated it.

I'm watching a really girly show now, along with Special A. [still watching]

I think some context is needed if you're referring to my statements about the movies. First of all, I said the movies weren't very good as movies, which isn't exactly a judgement on the story, just the format. The other thing is that I was largely disappointed because it didn't resolve my issues with the TV series, which I wasn't particularly crazy about in the first place.

I think the films are very necessary in order to understand what Eden of the East is all about (unless I guess if you specialize in the study of Japan's socioeconomic situation over the last two decades). I'm just saying I expected a masterpiece and got something that was just good instead.

Oh, I'm glad to see that you liked them. I have heard that they were just plain, old, objectively not good. Yours is actually the first positive comment I've heard about the films, though I haven't exactly gone out of my way to scour the net for info. It was the sum total of the reviewish comments, which I have picked up in my usual net locales, that I was referring to (of which yours is a part) rather than your comments alone.

I was also half joking above. In all honesty, I will end up checking them out b/c I am a completist.

On a different note, Bloody Curs' first episode was pretty average stuff...but I like violence, so I'll probably stick w/ it longer than I should.
