I tried to watch Best Student Council.
I really did. But it really bored me. I just can't get into "all girl" girly animes.
I like it when the show, whatever it is. Be it show, movie or book. Has a deeper plot than just random silliness. Sorry to anyone who likes it.

I just like better, thicker, more well thought out plots.

Plus even the comedy, wasn't really that funny. IMO.

Starting the GetBackers. We'll see how that goes.

Texhnolyze. This mature sci-fi thriller series is dark, extremely sombre and rather slow-paced. It's an ambient dystopian cautionary tale - well-done but not easy to watch. The characters aren't particularly likeable and the protagonist is almost as annoying as Shinji from the Robot Anime Which Shall Not Be Named. But the story is layered, as are the characters and the art is good but rather limited, although not to the extent of Serial Experiments Lain. There's some strong content but it's mostly limited to infrequent high-impact graphic violence (the ending has quite a bit though). Still a good series but only one for older anime fans.

I really like the GetBackers so far, I'm on episode 9 now.
I wasn't too sure, but I guess I should've guessed that it was going to be good since it has the same animators from Samurai X. There's really only one character that annoys me, but beside that. Good stuff.

Watched Pale Cocooon, since they had it up on Crunchyroll. A fantastic, beautiful one-episode OVA. One of the ones that everyone should watch, especially if you're into the sci-fi/dystopia feel.

Saw episode 19 of Kemono no Souja Erin- still awesome. A bit slower than some of the otehr episodes, but it was nice to see what her going into sucha different environment would be like.

Occult Academy 8- >.>" Perhaps the worst episode of the series.
If something that big had bit her, then her internal organs would have been pierced by those fangs and she would have been drained of blood pretty much immediately. Or at least been so drained that she died from shock.
Sorry if this has been mentioned already (I'm new here and this is one loooong thread), but be sure to check out Mizu no Kotoba and Time of Eve by the same director. Yasuhiro Yoshiura is an absolute genius, far and away my favorite up-and-coming animator.

.... XD I've already seen Time of Eve and am a huge fan of that. But I haven't heard of that other one- I will be looking for it!

Kemono no Souja Erin 20- I've already lavished praise on this thing. Do I need to emphasize more how great it is?

Riding Bean

Bean Bandit and his partner Rally Vincent are couriers for hire - transporting clients and delivering goods in his custom sports car "Roadbuster" for a hefty price. But when they are hired to escort a kidnapped girl named Chelsea to her home, they don't realize they're being framed for kidnapping as their former clients Semmerling and Carrie plan their escape with Chelsea's father and the ransom money.

A cool little OVA from 1989, this is a really enjoyable way to spend 45 minutes. RB features well-animated, thrilling, bat-crazy car chases, gun fights and it's all set to 80s music. The content makes this one 18+, but if you're not bothered by it, then you could find worse ways to kill some time.

Crunchyroll has it. It predates the other two and the animation isn't very polished, but it's just as unique and interesting as his later work.

And "what I'm watching now":

Slowly taking in Armored Trooper Votoms on DVD.

I watch several shows streaming, but the ones that really have my attention right now are Eden of the East and (!) Initial D.

I'll check out Erin, too, if you insist...

Um, yes please! That would be awesome. If you like the first 7 episodes, you'll like the show.

In any case, I got addicted and watched 21-25 of Erin.... I feel so silly, and so way ahead, but it's just too good! Encountered the first truly 'filler' episode I can think of, which wasn't terrible.... just definitely for the kids.

Why yes, episode 9 of Shiki is one of the creepiest things I have seen in anime. CURSE YOU, SHIKI! How DARE you trick me into watching you at midnight thinking you weren't going to be scary at all, how DARE you.

I'm going to go watch something happy, and non-nightmare inducing like Claymore....or maybe get caught up on Amagami. But...*shudder*

I don't know why... It doesn't really look that promising at all.

I really love GetBackers though! And I'm starting Air soon too.

First series or Brotherhood?

Kino's Journey 4-13 (complete)- Finally! I'd seen the first 4 episodes at a friend's houe, but hadn't been able to get around to seeing the last half. Hooray! (I love inter-library loans...) Terrific series. It gave me a lot to ponder, some themes that I'd come across before, but the stories were always surprising. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mizu no Kotoba- interesting short. I can see the basic ideas/designs/themes for Eve no Jikan- I'm so glad they decided to run with it! But also av ery interesting short in it's own right.

Seirei no Moribito 13-15- Still awesomesauce, with a few interesting new developements.

Shiki 9- and the war is on! Not as creepy or atmospheric as the previous few have been, but still well-done.

Keroro Gunso (also known as Sgt. Frog) eps. 1-13 Trying to expand the genres of anime that I watch. I've read a lot of good things about this show, but the basic premise of it never really excited me. But, I decided to give it a try, and I find that I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Also: Nakata Jouji as Giroro cracks me up. I'd been hoping to find the dub online streaming somewhere, since I'd heard so much about how different dub and sub are, but sadly, the dub seems to be expired everywhere. The sub is awesome, though.

Baccano! episodes 3-8. This series is great but rather violent. It oozes style in the fashions, the cars, weapons, the jazz/swing music - everything. There just aren't enough period drama anime set in the 1930's.

Movies!

Eden of the East Movie II: Paradise Lost was kind of disappointing. I know that Eden of the East isn't exactly the most action-packed series, but the two movies were not very good movies. For whatever reason, they decided movies were a better format than another TV series and that's an assessment that I disagree with. Movie II in particular has even less exciting stuff that happens than Movie I did and in its stead, we got a bunch of hilarious political nonsense. I guess they really wanted to drive home the fact that this is somehow supposed to be about Japan's social malaise.

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind was pretty neat. I liked the setting a lot. The production was really impressive for something made in the 80s. I may check out the manga eventually because I'm interested in the geopolitics of that world.

Not quite hating, more like hazy memories regarding anything pre-00s and possibly comparing movies and OVAs with TV series leading to lower expectations. I was similarly surprised and impressed by FLCL (which was right on 2000) and Char's Counterattack (which is late 80s).
