"The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case." - Chuck Close[/color]

So when did this turn from a "worst fad of all time" thread to a "things you hate" thread?
XIII_whisper wrote:Twilight & Iron Man 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh. Well I guess as long as the thread topic has changed, I really really hate that I can't find good mustard where I live. It's all French's or generic brand stuff. I feel like I'm going to be forced to order mustard from online...and then there is no turning back from the monster I have become.

I had never heard of Bumpits. So I googled it and watched the commercial.

I've gotta say all those hairstyles look awful. They're all like "Look how much better this is!" and I''m going "Uh it looks worse."

A friend of mine wore a bumpit last sunday... I just didn't have the heart to tell her.

And the difference between this being a "worst fads" thread and a "things you hate" thread is that these are things you hate that are/were popular.

Never...
Pokemon trading cards game

what was the goal, no body I ever saw actually finished a full game...

The goal was to take all of your opponent's Prize Cards. The reason that they chose this instead of "Knock out all your opponent's Pokemon" is because you can have far more than six Pokemon in a deck, and through the use of certain Trainer or Item cards (and even other Pokemon cards) you can pull discarded Pokemon cards back into your hand/in play. Each time you KO an opponent's Pokemon, you claim one of their Prize Cards. In this way, even if your opponent could endlessly redraw his discarded Pokemon cards, the game would still end.

And saying "Nobody I ever saw finished a full game" doesn't mean anything. There's plenty of games you could watch for hours, literally hours, and not see them finish. Chess, Monopoly (ESPECIALLY Monopoly), Axis and Allies (that game can take upwards of ENTIRE DAYS to play), the list goes on.

Someone mentioned that men should be classier and wear vests more often... YES.
Someone also said they thought Crocs are illegal in Japan? I don't think that they are, or at least I hope they're not, because I just went there and I was forced (because I would never go near them on my own accord T__T) to wear them to take a cooking class.

But, uh, on topic, I really think the "wearing leggings as pants alone" trend/fad should die. :/

B-but they're so... restricting... You can't bend down. Then it's awkward to ask the person next to you to pick up something for you, even though it's right there... .__. And you have to be careful when you walk up stairs and there are people behind you. And when you sit down. It's dumb. So I wear those fabric cut-off leggings things along with skirts... Instant comfort, less attention. I don't like being ogled or leered at. I find it highly disturbing. It makes me feel violated, too. D: Also, MODESTY for the win...

MEN'S VESTS ARE NOT THAT RESTRICTING. Unless you consider dressing like you've got class to be restricting.

I do.

First girls tell guys that they should be themselves and not try to be someone they're not because girls hate it when guys are fake. Then they tell us to dress up all nice and wear clothing we don't normally wear because that's not who we are. Mixed messages much? :l

And oh come on miniskirts are not THAT bad. I'm pretty sure most miniskirts are even longer than the skirts high school cheerleaders wear, and those are school-approved.

I may regret defending mini-skirts, but one can wear a mini skirt and still do normal things (like pick up a dropped pencil, for example) just like you would in jeans. But, it just requires a bit more careful thought and movement (much like wearing high heels). I'm also basing my defense on the fact that this mini skirt is not super short, but only relatively short. I also support tights or leggings with them.
That being said, I don't wear mini skirts that much at all. XD] Never...

Ah, you haven't been to/heard of Pokemon tournaments. They finish games there all the time, plus give out money prizes. In fact, they recently had the world championships of the Pokemon trading card game in Hawaii: http://www.pokemon.com/us/news/op_worlds10_concludes-2010-08-19/

But if it's only relatively short, then I don't really consider it a miniskirt... and then it doesn't really give you those problems, and so I don't have a problem with it. And then I would wear leggings/tights with it anyway. I think I may have just neutral-ed myself out. ._____.

Oh... then more men's vests at formal events only, then? They're rare-ish even there. Or, SWEATER VESTS! (lulz more off-topic, I'm sorry >__<)

Your first statements- It goes both ways then! But besides talking with my girl friends, this is really the only time I've said this stuff (about what I wish men would wear) in public...
And I wouldn't make a man wear anything that he'd hate to wear. Not that I could do so anyway. I only say this because it's what I wish men would wear more often.

Even so, I'm really not a fan of them... and maybe, but I went to a Christian school, and the cheerleader skirts there were just above the knee. And that is totally comfortable and modest (to me), no problem there.
