Is Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn really that bad?

Oscar is pretty awesome as well. He's just behind Titania is awesomeness.
The Greil units are just awesome. XD

Oh! I almost forgot. Soren is the best standard magic user in the game. USE HIM.

Okay thanks for the responses, now I'll see how I do with strong units!

That was helpful.:thumb:

Also, Mist is a pretty good unit as well. Give her Paragon, an A level support with Boyd, and baby her with some bonus exp. and she'll turn out pretty awesome. :D

Eh, Earth support with Ike makes both of them pretty much invincible.

I finished the game. Now, if you're used to chess-like character gameplay like Vandal Hearts then this should be pretty familiar. Several classes, weaknesses and strenghts, general skills ect. I would say that Vandal Hearts on the PS1 was a lot more flexible, yet this one a lot more calculative. So, if you're good with risk, then this should be familiar. I just wish the magic was as good as it was in Vandal Hearts.

Now, I actually liked the fire emblem to some degree that was on the gamecube. I mean, nothing is unpredictable story-wise in the GC or Wii versions. The biggest problem is that after a while it gets pretty air-headed. Meaning that the constructed plot gets so caught off track that they put in various fillers that are less than pleasing. It goes as far as to have this as a main boss on the second game which was disappointing to say the least.

On the upside most of the characters are pretty well done, a few main antagonists aside. They feel like they have been acquainted with war for a long time for the most part. Not that you see anything too shocking or well thought out during the course of the storyline, but it won't really sting you that much either. You are for the most part going to play either the hero or the bad guy which is sorta good as far as the most important characters go.

As for the gameplay, you either like it or you won't. I't would be recommended to put off a few hours on it each time you want to play. Save often, cause if you lose one of your characters, it is likely lost for good. On the harder difficulties it is recommended saving ALOT. The game drops in surprise enemy re-enforcements like there was no tomorrow. I remember several occasions where I had certain characters be in safe-spots, only to see an entire group of enemy re-enforcements spawn the next round and cut them down.

Overall, it is ok. I like games like Vandal Hearts 1 and Soul Nomad and the world eaters better. Both are fairly relate-able, although Soul Nomad is Nippon Ichi and thus can get stat-convoluted quick.
Of two evils, choose neither - Charles Spurgeon.

I'm partial to swordmasters and sages. Erk from FE7 is my favorite character in the series, and though they weren't particularly awesome in FE7, Marisa, Joshua, and Mia cemented how awesome swordmasters are. Pre-9 bishops and valkyries kick butt too, especially monk-based bishops.

Oh going to FE 7 that game was a breeze, I like that game it's so easy to finish, I think the only level I didn't like was when you try to recruit Nino and Jaffar, but that wasn't even too bad.

Which difficulty mode were you on? Hector Hard Mode is something I've never been able to play.

Yeah Swordmasters are pretty awesome. I think they'e one of my favorite classes. Sages are awesome too (as long as their defense goes up!).

I'm part and partial to fighters and Wyvern units as well.

I find Generals almost usless, they never double attack and die faster than anyone when put agaist a mages (who will quite probably double attack him/her). This is especially true in Sacred Stones. They just die left and right T__T then you feel all guilty. Armored units are good for blockades only (which you only need in a few key chapters). But their limited movement range, low spd, and low res makes them almost usless on the offensive battlefeild.

I've beat all but HHM (I'm pretty sure anyway)

once you learn which characters to use use them and no one else (But recruit just for the heck of it because you need some for extras and what not)
like I never get Wallace back because I always have lvl 50+ combined lord status by the level you get him in (BTW That is actually my worst level "Four Fanged Offense" Nino's/Jaffar's level is easier than that to me) and if you spam nils in chapter 7x or 8 to lvl 20 then Ninnian won't get touched much if ever. Harken is a must, if you get Karel then it's way harder.

Those are just basics but they help SO much for me.

FE 8 havn't beat once because I don't have a GBA or DS so I have to bug my sisters for theirs to play all of these games. Or play them on the computer because I own them so it's legal to have one copy.

Wyverns are cool in theory, but they kind of get stuck with awful circumstances. Heath? Strong unit, comes as a seven when your units are first promoting. Vaida? Decent for a prepromote(though no Pent) but joins way late. Cormag? Not as bad because Sacred Stones gives you the Tower of Valni, but still comes pretty underleveled. Jill is pretty much the only one I've found particularly useful. Someone is FE6 wasn't bad either, but I don't remember who it was. As for fighters, it really depends on the unit. BARTRE THE BRAVE is awesome, but Dorcas, while a nice guy, is kind of bland and not particularly useful, and Garcia and Ross never really cut it for me. Boyd is hilarious and awesome, but his counterpart, Nolan, sucks and is a boring, amoral character.

Generals, again, it depends on the character. Oswin actually has his own joke religion, as the head of the Oswinian Trinity, because he is so awesome. Wallace is pretty hilarious, though I never get him now. Gilliam was a pretty solid unit, fulfilled his job as a meatshield pretty well. Gatrie was awesome because he is a womanizer, and I tried Brom, but he was slow enough to not double attack, but his defense was too low to be an effective meatshield. And Meg, well, it'd be best not to mention Meg. I've never had a problem with my generals dying though. As far as their offense goes, well, Intelligent Systems did a pretty good job with making classes fit their weapons. Myrmidons can't be hit because of fighter's low skill, and their low attack is compensated for by the fighter's low defense. Fighter's low skill can hit knights because of the knight's poor speed, and the defense is beaten by the fighter's high strength. Knights have enough skill to hit myrmidons via weapon triangle, and no matter how many attacks the myrmidon hits the knight with, he'll be dead before he gets off thirty one-damage attacks. The knight's strength may not be enough to oneshot a fighter or cavalier, but the myrmidon's low HP and defense means he'll go down pretty fast.

Meh I just think Generals are not my type of unit. Kinda like how Wyvern units aren't your type of unit Hats XD

And yes Meg SUCKS SO BAD. She doesn't even fulfil her jobs as a general! Sheesh! practacally no defense? What's a general w/o defense?

And @Jaden That's your opinion Jaden. I personally would enjoy the Fire Emblem series more. Complexity isn't what makes a great game. More stats doesn't make the game system better. It's what you DO with that that matters.
So ultimatly it all comes down to opinion and preference. any facts you present either way only point to one's own opinion. (and just to be clear I don't think my opinion is any better than anyone else's lol)

Wait wait wait hold it right there!

It's fine if you aren't a fan of Fighters, but every play through I have ever done with Ross/Garcia (Especially Ross) has done an exemplary job

Turn Ross into a Fighter and then into a hero (You may prefer berserker but I'm still very partial to heros because of the over-powerness they have) I find Ross is one of the best non-magic non-lord characters. I find heros to be more stat based where as berserkers more towards the luck side (They are still good but I'd always choose a hero to a berserker).

Oops missed a question XD

She has HUGE evasion, which is amplified by support with Boyd (an A level with boyd will also give +3 atk and +2 def). She has great healing. Mag, spd, res, and luck. All of those will likely cap off. Her strength may need a little bit of babying. Also you can get 2 of her swords. They'll come in handy. and possibly a Tempest blade will come in handy :P. Her def is pretty fair as well, not awesome, but pretty good (Her evasion will make up for it).

She'll take out Achers, Mages and even White dragons without too much trouble :).

I'm horrible at getting healers up because I usually play it safe with my team...

now that mist can fight I'm worried she will die if I use her to fight anything other than healers/archers...

No worries. Generals are too inaccurate and swordmasters don't have the strength to deall too much damage. Her evasion will be from 30% or so on Swordmasters down to 0% on generals. so even if she does get hit she'll be fine.
