Yeah, it's good, but honestly I think the movie got it pretty good. In some parts it got it better.
Cool. I will still see it b/c I have heard such good things about Studio 4C and that they made the film look amazing. Plus, it's the first anime to be directed by an American guy who actually worked inside a Japanese studio and had personal interactions with the staff. So I'm totally interested.

finished watching the Clannad After Story. What a TEAR JERKER! I LOVED IT!
IT was great.

I finished Yukikaze, Short but sweet. Entertaining... Wish they'd made it into a series though.

I started Haibane Reimei, It's interesting so far, not my favorite. But the artistic and thought behind the story is interesting enough to continue watching it.

I'm still trying to finish Gate Keepers. :P
After this though, I think I'm going to go on an anime break. I've really being watching a lot in the past few months, and I think it's about time I found a new hobby for awhile.

Sgt. Frog Season 2 part 2. This has become one of my favorite anime ever.

Also, though not an anime, I picked up Zatoichi (the TV series) Season 1 part 1 at Otakon. It's good. Really good. You should check it out.

Seirei no Moribito 6-11- this continues to be a very good show. Even though each show doesn't have action, the plot keeps moving along, with political decisions being made, characters settling into their lives, and the water spirit continuing to be of great importance. All the characters are solid in and of themselves, acting rationally and normally. And the story itself is also solid, with internal logic and sense. In short- this is a great anime so far. I can't wait to finish it!

Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) 1-33

...I have gone to the dark side.

I'll do a write-up on this one at some point. It's hard to know what to say in a paragraph or two about such a massive, sprawling show (109 eps). Hokuto no Ken is the series that created the shounen action formula, thus every subsequent series in the genre owes some small debt to it. Having said that, nothing about the series feels especially trite to me. The story takes place in the year 199X, the earth ravaged by nuclear conflicts of the past. Survival of the fittest is the order of the day, and the weak are trampled underfoot. One man, a man who will become a legend in the hearts of mankind, stands up for the oppressed: Kenshiro.

The story begins in a not unfamiliar way: our hero, Kenshiro, is on a journey to recover his lost love and to kill the man who took her from him. And along the way he is a particularly merciless righter of wrongs. What begins rather simply eventually expands into a mythology of the succession of Hokuto Shinken (Kenshiro's fighting style) and the fate of the family of the successor (there will probably be much more...but I'm only a third of the way through here).

You can really feel Kenshiro's legend organically growing, little by little, as the show progresses. Part one of the story (1-22) was unnecessarily prolonged, but other than that, Hokuto no Ken is a fantastic, fantastic show.

And heads explode. Many...many...heads explode.

I have always liked the old OAV. I was told the series doesn't measure up.
What is your opinion on that?

By the "old OAV" do you mean New Fist of the North Star? If so, I think that tells a side story, rather than the main story of Hotuko no Ken. I like the TV series quite a bit, as you can probably tell. I would be hesitant to claim that it didn't measure up to something that is based on it in the first place. The animation is certainly not as pretty, since it is on a TV budget/schedule rather than an OVA budget/schedule...but who cares. It's still great =). The strong storytelling tends to overshadow that particular aspect of the series.

Toradora! Ep 1 - 26.

I loved it! :D I don't think a second season would be a good idea...
But it totally should have movie!

[spoiler] I actually was getting kind of sad near the end of the last episode, with Taiga transfering without telling Ryujii and then it skipping to the graduation with her still being gone. I was so happy when he saw her though the classroom window, dashes up there, and finds her hiding in the locker. <3

Finished GateKeepers. Cute ending. ^_^;
Starting GateKeepers 21, Kanon and Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu! and continuing on with Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood.
Finishing Haibane-Renmei. Interesting plot for sure. Kinda glad it's only 13 episodes though. I need to finish all these ones I've started. Then I have to continue my wedding planning full-throttle. :)

Oh good, I'm not the only Gintama fan on here.
Anyway, gave up on Rayearth because Hulu is not showing the entire series. I'm watching Claymore now.

Yeah, but my research shows that after that is a second season. And that's not on there. I want both seasons, even if the second season is from a different distributor.
Anyway, just finished The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimaya.

Finished:
Ranma 1/2 Season 3: Have I mentioned lately that I EXTREMELY dislike Happosai? lol
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Big adjectives fail me here. It's THAT good. So good, its on my very short (3 titles) favorites list.
Haurhi-Chan: stumbled across this on YT last week and decided to watch the whole thing. Hilarious. And then...
Churuya-San: the other "Chan" series for the Haurhi franchise. Bite-size, but mildly funny. "Nyoron..."
Hetalia World Series: whether or not its done, I am at least caught up on it.

Starting/ed:
Ranma 1/2 Season 4 (-ed): with that crazy Hawaiian principal dude... baka much? lol
Baccano! (-ing, tomorrow): from what I've heard, I think I'm going to be rather confused on a regular basis with this series, but in a good way. Yes?

It starts coming together after the third episode, so hopefully not too much! So glad you're watching it! :thumb: Also, as I have had no internet, I have re-watched Paprika and the first three episodes of ARIA- I forgot how much I loved those shows!!!

Skip Beat (epi. 12). I'm inexplicably drawn to this anime. The drawing is only so-so, and so is the plot, but the FMC is absolutely hilarious and lovable.

I've been watching FMA Brotherhood the last week or so, I'm somewhere around episode 16 I think.

Today I also watched random episodes of Tenjou Tenge and Dragon Ball Z (very old episode where Goku is fighting monkey Vegeta).

Finished Haibane-Renmei.
Not really sure how I feel about it. It was intriguing to say the least, and at least it had a happy ending, sort of... :P

I'm continuing Kanon. Wow, plot thickening around episode 7. Eee. I want to know what happens.

Finals are done so that means going through some old shows! But first, Ghibli:

Only Yesterday is another one of those Ghibli movies that feels like Ocean Waves and Whisper of the Heart. Unfortunately, Only Yesterday doesn't really resonate with me. I can see what it's trying to do, because the message it's trying to get across is very similar to, say, Solanin. But, me and it are not just on the same wavelength. It's certainly interesting.

The Cat Returns was also pretty interesting. Also, I guess this was like, hey, let's see if we can come up with a story based on that cat statue from Whisper of the Heart. It was fun, if a little short and simplistic. Actually, it feels like a Disney movie, where you have a girl getting tricked into going to this fantasy land and getting saved by a suave cat or whatever.

Princess Tutu is really good. It starts off as your typical magical girl show, except instead of magical girl battles, you've got ballet battles. Once it gets into the real story, though, it has twists and subversions on your standard fairy tale and is actually fairly meta (I put a story in your story so you can write a story about your story). The ending was pretty great.

Ayakashi is a short collection of classic Japanese horror stories, which explains why I wasn't very captivated by them, I guess. The best arc was the Bake Neko arc, if only because of the Medicine Seller being the awesome Ginko equivalent and the trippy art style.

Aria the Animation 4-6- My other background noise series. When an episode catches my eye, I can sit down and watch. The letter epsiode made me cry.... again!

Another old dubbed DBZ episode after work today, this is going to become a habit. I'm not sure I want it to though...

The dub sounds different from the one I saw when my brother was into the series ages ago. I didn't watch it that much, but Vegeta sounds different from how I remember him, although I'm not really sure about the other characters.

It should be different- there are two different dubs out there, for different releases. You have the Ocean Productions dub, which was probably what you and your brother heard/saw years ago, and the more recent Funi dub, which was done in 2005.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure - WRYYYYYY!

Ringing Bell - Children's anime about a sheep who wants to become a wolf. Traumatizing to say the least.

....think of it more as a story about a kid that gets beat up and his mother killed by the Yakuza, and then wants to become a Yakuza himself. Then replace the words Yakuza with wolf and the word kid with lamb.
