Mock Crash at school today

Postby Hitokiri » Wed May 05, 2004 6:57 pm

Ok its Prom Week. Thiers no doubt that after prom tons of kids will go out and drink ( i know a few and some invited me but I declined and advised them to do the same). Anyways, the high school that I go to sponsored a Mock Crash.

Where they make a replicate of what a drunk driving crash is. They went all out and it really hit me hard. I will explain why later.

So we ride out to the junior high cause thats where the football stadium is (the old highschool, we just got a new one 3 years ago) and we sat down. the principal talked to us for like 3 minutes as well as a State patrol men. Then a anchorman from a local news station does a mock repsort where he narrates the entire thing explaining whats happening.

Near us in the field was a blanet and cars underneath so they peel off the cover and thiers is a car facing our way and the a car lodged into the drivers side. Both are beat up.

Note this is all fake no one was hurt. Hence the name "Mock"

However in the car facing us was 3 people (a mother of one the students and her kids). The mother was slumped foward moaning in pain and you can see she was bleeding. The kids appeared ok.

The car that hit the drivers side had 4 college students in it. Now here's what hit me at home. Two of these kids were extremely close friends to me: Julie and Vicky. I knew Julie would be in there but I didn't know Vicky. However, this is what make me upset to the point of crying. How bad they looked. Theyw ere all cut up and bleeding.

Julie broke through the window and was spread out on the hood while Vicky was trapped in the back car. Two guys get out of the car. They were coming home from Prom when this mock crash happened. They stumbled aroun din shock and the driver called 9-1-1 and we ehard the conversation ont he phone. The guy who got out (not the driver) collasped from loss of blood and the driver tried to help him but he was bleeding too (i knew the driver, his name is Hamid). So finally you hear all these sirens and police cars pull up and they strart to talk to Hamid while the firefeighters and EMS crews help out Julie. They put Julie whoose all bloody in a body bag and pronounced her dead (thats where i got a lump in my throat). They laid her in front of the bleachers and slowly the body bag began to staurate with blood. (fake of course). So they they go to explain the mother and how she broke her ribs and punctured her lungs and they took her and her kids who didnt get hurt into the ambulance. They bgan cuttin gthe car apart to save Vicky and they finally did. All of a sudden you hear a low churning noise and right over our head comes a huge helocopter (lifeflight) and landed on the football field. They rushed Vicky to the copter cause she would die. The copter took off shortly then (what she did was she disguised ehrself as a fireman and went with them out of the stadium.

So everyone starts to leave and Hamid is placed under arresr for being under the influence of alchohol after failing the tests. So they take him out and a Hersche goes into the stadium (a Hersche is those black funeral cars) and as they are preparing Julie to put into the car.

They play a recording sh emade. It went somethin glike this:

I just wanted to have fun on Prom night. To make it more memorable. Though when I saw those lights I knew my life would be cut short. Whats this why is people lookinmg at me? I'm ok, I'm alive. Hey why are you placing a bag over me? I can't see! Why are my parents crying? They seme so sad, what happened? Why are my grandparents crushed and can't seem to walk? Why do my frienda cry and mourn? Did something happen? Why are people looking at me and touching my hand? Is this a funeral?

Wait! This can't be my funeral! I'm to young to die! I had so much to do! I wanted to get a good job! I wanted to get married! I want to see my kids and my grandkids!! This can't be happening!

Please God! Please give me one more chance! Please! I dont want my friends and family looking like this! Pleas ehlp me, save me! I want to l...." and the recoridng was cut short as they zipped up the body bag and put her in the car.

People did strat crying I almost did. So we were dismissed and as we left wqe had to go through a tent and they had two caskets open with mirrors in them so we see our faces in the coffin.

I was impacted alot however alot of kids took it as a joke and I had to restrain from smacking them.

So anyways, i found that hitting very close to home. I gave the two girls I big hug when I saw them late ron in the day. Another wierd thing was that Julie and Vicky are in my Prom group and I was sitting next to one of my best friends Greg who is taking Julie to Prom. Both (julie and vicky) are Christians.

They did something similiar to this at my school last year called "Shattered Dreams"--basicaly the same scenario with the mock crash and all, except it was the Friday before spring break.

I think programs like this are much more effective than watching a video on it or hearing a guest speaker give you statistics. These new, shocking ways of getting to people I think really work.

I will say this: scare tactics definitely work. (At least on the individuals smart enough to get scared, that is... *sighs sadily and remembers*)

No, but I have seen some horrific things in my youth... One of which being the real deal of what Hitokiri is speaking of. (Excpet I was 13 and on my way to school at 6:30am and 100 yards from school is where the accident happened... 80 miles an hour + no seat belts + rock wall 20 feet high = BAD THINGS.) I won't go into the others.

Sometimes it is far easier to be shown something than to just hear about it... The visual makes a lasting impression.

I think they tried to get thier message across ss2gohan, even if it did seem lame. I applaud any schools effort to prevent syudent deaths....even it does seem lame.
