Basically, it's a Japanese calendar cycle thing that determines the fortune for that day.

ich1990 (post: 1409978) wrote:Well, I watched the rest of the episode, which pretty much answered my question. To answer yours: I could have sworn I stumbled across a spoiler about him being a vampire when I was looking into the basic premise (but now I can't seem to find it). Add to that the fact that a guy who looks like a girl moves into a recently built castle in a remote location, and is way too cool to talk to a girl who has a crush on him... well, I assumed he was the vampire.
Well, the trippy colors kind of soften things and make it look like an artistic work rather than something that is trying to be scary. I would link to the Higurashi opening for an example of colors being used to an unsettling affect, but there is some nudity in it.goldenspines (post: 1409984) wrote:You seem to be implying that it was Yuuki that moved into the castle/European house (the dude the pink haired girl had/has a crush on)]Like I said, I only watched the first ten minutes. I hadn't gotten to the part with the cat ears/hair guy yet. I am also quite aware of the guys looking like girls theme, but ten minutes in he seemed to be the only guy in the whole series who liked a girl: this implied he was something special. Later we see the priest dude (at least, I think he is a dude?) so I guess it is just an art thing rather than a clue.
As for him disliking her or thinking he was too cool. Can't they pretty much be the same thing? Not as creepy? People turning into skulls along with trippy colors is not as creepy? I'd hate to see what it could have been. XD
Though, just as a thought, I wouldn't be surprised if we did get a vampire in this series (the idea is not that far fetched), but I doubt it's Yuuki.

For me, it was the best so far in the series. I am really liking the Yuuki and Toro (is that who he is) angle. Hopefully that will be more developed later on and this might not turn into the anticipated all-out war. The only downside is that the new OP is even less creepy than the last. More pretty, perhaps, but even farther from the tone of the series.
EDIT: Heads-up, the new ED is all naked people.
