Rewatched Summer Wars, and it remains an amazing two hours of awesome!
Aren't they? I'm going to cry when they get licensed- I heart dvds! (watching on my laptop gives me headaches )Cadence (post: 1402432) wrote:Agreed! House of Five Leaves is definitely one of my favorites this season, and Summer Wars is spectacular!
House of Five Leaves maintains its quality, Yumeiro Patissiere is as stupidly fun and adorable as ever, Angel Beats is...meh...
So...I could go on, but suffice it to say I’ve been watching more anime than is probably healthy.
Angel Beats? More like Kyoto Animation the Animation. If you thought So Ra No Wo To's character designs were derivative of K-ON!, then you'll love Angel Beats' characters who share character designs and personalities with Haruhi characters. The premise is nonsensical and the mood has been schizophrenic. There is a gun battle juxtaposed with a concert. Why? It is a mystery. If I were a stronger person, I'd probably drop this, but as with CANAAN and Ookami Kakushi, I'll be staying for the writer.

I am pretty much equally sad to see them over...Soul Eater was the first thing to weird me (excluding initial anime shock) in years. And it was very refreshing...the colors! the characters! Everything felt so alive, as strange as it may sound. =)
Mr. Hat'n'Clogs (post: 1402909) wrote:If you're like me and a lot of other people and was disappointed by the ending, you may want to check out the manga for Soul Eater. The anime went off on its own plot that might not have been bad, but suffered from some issues and apparently the manga's plot is better once it differs from the anime.
Any so-called anime fan that doesn't love Gankutsuou should be beaten soundly about the head with a large trout.MightiMidget (post: 1402918) wrote:Episodes 8-10 of Gankutsuou. Now that I am watching it on my own time, by myself, I can really get sucked in and WOW! Loving it. And still adore the artwork.

The comedic element of the show is the action because it is just so over-the-top. Laws of physics are frequently broken as Dynasty-Warriors style samurai action gets bigger and awesome-er.
Devil Kings in the hiz-ouse!blkmage (post: 1403015) wrote:That likely has to do with the fact that Sengoku Basara is based on a series of games by the same name that are basically Capcom's Dynasty Warriors clones.
Stick with it for a few episodes. The big payoff in terms of revelations comes in the middle of the series, but, even when you don't know every detail of what's actually going on, it's still pretty enjoyable.Atria35 (post: 1403426) wrote:Started on Fantasic Children, watched ep. 1..... Intriguing. At the very least, I enjoyed the OP XD
TheSubtleDoctor (post: 1403431) wrote:Then I started 02...wow. Since Akane has paid due homage to the original, he is free to do his thing here. Once you get into the second season, it becomes clear that the first season, while being good on its own, chiefly serves to lay the groundwork for the follow-up. For anyone who loved season one (looks at CAA Radio crew) you will go nuts for season two. The pacing is leagues better, and the story is darker in tone and a lot more interesting. If Birdy 01 is win, then Birdy 02 is WIZ-IN.
Well that is slightly disappointing, though I do care about characterization more than animation quality (barring extreme cases, of course). I really like the new characters a lot. I find Nataru in particular to be fascinating.Atria35 (post: 1403436) wrote:I loved the season- however, what it has in characterization and personality, it suffers in art and animation. This becomes very apparent in the later episodes- it just doesn't hold to the standards in the first season, or even in the beginning of the second season! I don't know whether it's because the animators don't know how to draw children in that style or what, but I was disappointed.
TheSubtleDoctor (post: 1403446) wrote:*Edit There are certain instances of what you describe even in the first five eps, Atria. For me, this kind of thing prevents a show from achieving a 10/10 but doesn't, on its own, knock down a 9/10 story to, say 6/10 or 7/10.
