I can't stand listening to people constantly mispronouncing Japanese words.

No, scratch that]any[/I] language, when they try too hard to say it right and mess it up anyway, or if it's just so different from the real word, the right way sounds wrong or makes you sound strange to other people when you say it the 'right' way.
It can be funny to hear people mispronounce words though; funny or painful.
It's when they take it seriously and believe that they're saying it perfectly that can be pretty grating.

I'm afraid to pronounce some Japanese words in the open; Karaoke just HAS to be "Carry-okee", Karate HAS to be "Karatee".

When my mom insists on stopping near the door to a restaurant or shop to let us out when there's a parking spot RIGHT. THERE. Sooo not cool, mom! Especially when holding up traffic through the lot to do it!

Politics of all kinds It gets really annoying after 19 years of having your parents and siblings talk of almost nothing else.

People who act so religious and ignore people's real life problems, like starving or being sick, so that they can pray for the person's "Soul." I mean you can pray for someone's "Soul" while shooting them in the face, it's not really caring it's just being pretentious.:bang:

People who don't consider you Christian simply because you don't use Christianese.

People who talk to me just to make me talk. Seriously only talk to me if you either have a valid question or are genuinely interested in what we are talking about and absolutely never walk up to me and say something like "oh you're a quiet one," when you don't even know me because that is so annoying

People who, when you mention that you were homeschooled, say things like "I knew a girl who was homeschooled once, she shouldn't have been," and then don't even expand on it but instead give you a lot of dirty looks.

People who say anything about Socialization when you mention that you were homeschooled. This makes me think "Well saying that you sound like someone who learned all about manners in school and about dealing with people who have different backgrounds than you ":eyeroll: Seriously do these people even even realize how insulting that is, or are they too busy being so original in their arguments against homeschooling? Homeschooling is not for everyone, I don't even think I would homeschool my own kids if I ever get married and have kids because it is really, really hard, but someone needs to get the word out that "What about your socialization?" is inexpressibly impolite.

Homeschoolers who act like going to a public school turns you evil. I have met far too many people who say things like this and can't believe that they don't realize that, like the above, it is inexpressibly impolite.

People who think that their opinions are what makes them who they are and get really mad at people who disagree with them about even the tiniest thing.

Those times when my parents say things like "Don't turn out like so-and-so-sibling-of-yours." I love my parents but I cannot even begin to express how angry this makes me, especially since all of my grown up and moved away siblings are successful.

People who believe that in families with a lot of kids none of the kids are going to amount to anything, I come from a large family (eleven kids) and all of my (seven) grown up siblings are successful at what they are doing. I don't even think I have to say that this is inexpressibly impolite, but I just did. :rant::bang:

Even though it is the stupidest thing, it also really bothers me when people don't close cupboards and closet doors. Seeing them hanging open just disturbs me, so I always have to shut them. Maybe it's OCD...

I've had friends on both sides of the argument. I understand. Though I did ask my friends a few times how they socialized (curiosity! I didn't know how homeschooling worked at the time!).

When someone acts overly arrogant. It doesn't matter who it is or what they think is so great about themselves (skill, talent, knowledge), acting in such a way is not very endearing. What is worse, perhaps the person in question does have a genuine skill/talent/expertise in some area, but their arrogance makes it less likely that many will even listen to what the person has to say.

Agreed. And agreed.
8 spaces feels way too much - 4 is more than necessary, and 2 is what I mostly use. Python whitespace.. ugh.
I've been indoctrinated with various different indenting styles, so I'm not as rigid as I once thought I was. I mainly use the Allman style, but was taught the 1TBS at uni.

I've never understood the objection that people have to Python's whitespace. I've considered it as enforcing something that everyone should be doing anyway. Do you all not indent consistently or something?

One of my BIGGEST pet peeves is when people don't respect others opinions.
Or those who refuse to change their opinions when they're proven wrong. (not saying that I still wouldn't respect their opinion however. It's still irratating)

When people claim modern America's faults are the result of a flaw in the Founders method.
And that coffe drinks, when ordred to go, are burned on purpose. Such foolish waste! If all you want is something hot get tea! But no, we want it HOT! >.<

An expression that I've unfortunately heard uttered on numerous occasions is that America is "the greatest country in the world"...This phrase, more often than not, finds its way into the mouths of people who have never even been anywhere else. It is a truly great country...But it's not without its own faults.

Be all and end all- one of my mother's favorite expressions when talking about other people's arrogance, meaning that the peron/thing thinks or is the 'be all' (it's everything AND COOKIES! The BEST ever!) and 'end all' (there will be nothing better after it).

I hate it when my dad turn the heat on and turns it higher tham the temperature outside when it's in the middle of summer. I think there's something wrong with his reasoning system.

My problem isn't so much the enforced indentation, I can live with that. Really it's no different from curly braces or END statements. The problem is that it crashes because I indented using tabs and when the rest of the file uses spaces. Everything lines up in the editor so unless I have "show all characters" or equivalent selected I can't even see the difference. That's what annoys me. I should mention that I only use python for Civ IV modding so I'm usually editing files not making them.

On topic:
I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. People who hide their half full coffee/pop/whatever on a construction site. Do they have any idea how disgusting it is to discover you've knocked over three month old coffee because it was inside a wall behind a 2x6 where you can't see it !?! It's bad enough just cleaning up the ones you can see.

You can't prove an opinion wrong because an opinion is subjective. "Steak is the best food" is an opinion because it's based on the person's preference.

If you can prove someone wrong about something, then it's not an opinion, it's just ignorance or hardheadedness. A good example would be "The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico isn't a big problem." That isn't an opinion; it can be proven completely wrong using facts. However, the person who said that probably WOULD hide behind the statement "That's my opinion!" even though it isn't an opinion, it is ignorance or blatant stupidity (probably the latter, since if it was ignorance and they were proven wrong, they would realize their error).

The line between fact and opinion can be tricky. For example, "White is the best color" would normally be an opinion. However, depending on the context, it could be a wrong statement, for example, "What is the best color for a child to wear when it's really muddy outside?" Then, clearly, white would not be the best color, because that statement could be proven factually wrong.

I guess that's a pet peeve of mine too, now that I think about it. Calling things opinions that aren't really opinions, just ignorance or bigotry.

To indent consistently, I just select all in Emacs and press tab (== equivalent in vim). It seems like a nice logical thing to do. You can't do that in Python, where you might have one space in some places and three spaces in others, where there should be multiples of four..
