Yesterday watched Whisper of the Heart.
It came on Netflix, my sister wanted to see it, and since it came, I watched it too;
I enjoyed it.

Well that was terribly sad, but sheds a lot of light on the third act. The impression I had got from the movie was definitely wrong, as it's not his attachment to Akari and his childhood experiences what stops him from finding happiness with another woman or in general, with his life, but rather his particular personality, as hinted by the second act. I even have to say, now I identify myself a bit with him...

Just got Soul Eater and Darker Than Black's box sets in the mail, so I'm watching those, starting with Soul Eater.

Edit: Finished the first two episodes of Darker Than Black. And so far, I'm just asking myself, "Self, what the HECK took you so long? Why are you only now watching this?" Still am very much in the Dark - pun intended - but I'm excited to see where it's going.

Soul Eater is, as always, awesome.

This has been a busy couple days in regards to anime:

This weekend I did a marathon of "Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water". A solid series, even some of the few "Infamous Island Episodes" were good for character development if nothing else. The ending still leaves a question mark hovering over my head, though I would expect nothing less from a Hideaki Anno project.

This morning before work, I finished up "Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning". I would love to give this anime full marks, but...the whole "Who/What Are The Blade Children" plot line leaves much to be desired. IMHO this would make a great detective story were it not for the confusing "blade children" mystery.

Next on my watch list--a "Moonphase" marathon which may be followed by an Evangelion marathon...still not quite sure.

Regularly watching:

Kimi ni Todoke
Nodame Cantabile Finale
Hanamaru Kindergarden
Dance in the Vampire Bund

Presently actively watching:

Guin Saga

Recently finished:

Hidamari Sketch (okay, not as good as the similar Ichigo Mashimaro; it was largely boring, actually. 2 eps to go, so no rating yet)

Ai Yori Aoshi ([8.5] "this guy has it sooooo good" harem)

Gokinjo Monogatari ([7.5] it's no Nana, but then again, what is? A decent rom/com that falls into some of the older foibles / tropes of anime, but largely succeeds in maintaining interest. Probably a little long for what it is)

The Place Promised in Our Early Days ([7] I was honestly expecting more from this, but it was okay)

Candy Boy ([8] Mislabeled as a shoujo-ai twincest; more akin to Maria-sama ga Miteru sans the idolized onee-sama action. Strong bonds of sisterhood/twinhood, but there is a certain tension there)

Kowarekake no Orgel ([8] A solid OVA with an interesting premise; I'm looking forward to more...)

I My Me! Strawberry Egg ([8.5] I actually ended up marathoning this.)

Summer Wars ([10] Watch. This. Now.)

Winter Garden ([8] A nice short romance)
Denpa Teki na Kanojo ([tmp 9] Very fine "disturbing" detective-style OVA)

Kodocha episodes 16-17. After taking a couple weeks off to play through Bioshock, it was wonderful to come back to this crazy show. I can't believe that I'd forgotten how fun Sana is! And the new revelations are quite interesting....

The current season's ending in a week or two, so you'll likely see me around here more frequently for a bit.

First of all, I've finished Utena slightly ahead of schedule. I enjoyed watching it, although I'm probably going to have to spend a lot more time trying to decipher the entire thing. Pretty sure it's got Eva beat in terms of weird psychological themes and symbolism. It's really fascinating to watch and I'm glad I got the chance and motivation to do so.

Next, we have Ookamikakushi, which has pretty much ended with an extra episode next week. This one is the clear disappointment of the season. I really hope that this is another instance of a studio destroying a Ryukishi07 visual novel again, because if it isn't, R07's stature as an awesome writer will be dropping and I'll be eyeing Umineko EP6 and Rewrite much more cautiously. The premise was alright, but the characters and plot were incredibly awful and really stupid. Peach-Pit's ridiculous character designs didn't help either.

Finished Death Note on Wednesday. Wow...just wow... That is now very high on my list of favorite anime. That ending was so satisfying. I loved it. I also watched the live action movies which were very cool and just as good as the series.
I also watched Tsubasa Chronicles: Tokyo Revelations. Holy crud! That was crazy. Good stuff though.

Watched Windy Tales ep 6 last night.... I think it was aimed at a younger age group than mine- it seems more for the pre-teen set than anything else, and I just can't seem to really get into it.

Last night I marathoned eps 7 to 13 of Windy Tales (completeing the series)- I thought eps 2-7 could have been skipped easily, as they were really, really slow and not pertinent to the storyline, but I really enjoyed all of the other episodes. But it's also more for a pre-teen to young teen set- no nudity/cussing/violence, but also themes and ideas that that age group would be dealing with. Maybe a rating of 6.5/10?

So, Sora no Woto. It's kind of hard to describe this show. Even before it started airing, it had the notoriety for looking like K-ON! and it was assumed that it'd pretty much be the same sort of inconsequential thing, with girls playing military and no actual war to be had. It is mostly a slice of life show, but I'd say about 50% of the show was of the typical slice of life stuff you'd expect from the setting and the other half was unexpected and fairly interesting.

That's not to say that the slice of life stuff wasn't interesting. The biggest strength of the show is its setting. When we're first introduced to it, it's easy to assume it's just a wacky Japanese take on a European village. As we get further along in the show, there are a few unsettling revelations about when exactly the show takes place.

But that sort of stuff, while interesting, was expected. It's the unexpected stuff that makes the show worth watching. PTSD? Check. Moonshining? Check. More PTSD? Check. Spider tanks? Check.

So yeah, I guess this new timeslot is off to a decent start.
