Stuff you're embarrassed to admit you liked

Postby rocklobster » Mon Mar 01, 2010 3:56 pm

Looking back on my childhood, I've noticed there's some things I watched that I wonder why I ever did. I'm sure I'm not alone. What about you? Here's what I'm embarrassed to admit I watched:
He-man
She-ra
Punky Brewster (animated version)
Snorks
Smurfs
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."

He-Man here too... and honestly... most anime in general :D I mean, I still like a lot of anime but I wouldn't tell anyone that unless they had some interest in it. Just creates a bad impression IMO.

Also... Power Rangers. I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I was little. Bought a bunch of PR toys and everything. But watching a couple episodes more recently, I can't believe I liked that stuff >.> I complain about my sister liking Hanna Montana and all that Disney crap but even most of that crap is more watchable than power rangers IMO.

I second the anime thing...I'm a smidgen paranoid about openly admitting to liking it just because of all the teasing I've already gotten from my family. . .

But as earlier? Hmmm. Most of the things I used to like I still like! I went through this phase of I'm too cool for it, but am over that now and still like Land Before Time, Powerpuff Girls--ohhh. My Little Ponies. That is an embarrassment to have loved it, mostly just because it's boring. . .

There is nothing that I like that I'm embarrassed to admit that I like it. If I like it, when why should anyone be embarrassed to in saying that you like it.

I don't hide the fact that I like stuff and if any had a problem with it, then tough cookies for them.

Well, my boys roll their eyes and tell me that I should be embarrassed to admit I liked Tokyo Mew-Mew. Does that count?

I am somewhat embarrassed to like anything the Nostalgia critic has ever panned. Not because I actually care all that much about what he thinks, but because I seem to reside on the corner of the Internet where his word is law, and people who would never have cared about or cared to badmouth you for what you watched before are now compelled to make it an issue because some guy with glasses made a big deal about it.

Don't feel bad, I like Mew Mew Power (when it was still airing, at least). >_>;

And I'm a bit embarrassed to love cheesy shoujo series so much. ^_^

Honestly, I watched an episode of Power Rangers a few weeks ago with my brother and his girlfriend. And it was AMAZING. Ridiculous and stupid and extraordinarily cheesy: yes.

But amazing and hilarious? Also yes. XDDD

That said, I can't say I'm really too embarrassed about watching any of the older shows that I used to watch. I enjoyed them when they were meant for my demographic, and I still enjoy some of them (read: Boy Meets World is still funny)! XD

The stuff that initially springs to mind is not from my childhood but from my marriage. Because I like my wife, I want to spend time w/ her, and so on occasion we will watch something together that, if not for her, I would never dream of watching. She does the same thing for me with anime and, more rarely, soccer. Most of the time, I watch her shows just to be with her and otherwise am not attached. But...sometimes I grow to like these "woman" shows *gasp!*. They're interesting! I promise! Actually, I'm not necessarily embarrassed that I enjoy the following shows, I just know that I "shouldn't" like them according to cool manly men everywhere =). Without further adieu...

Project Runway (and so much more on the BravoTV channel)
What Not to Wear
How Do I Look?
Men's Figure Skating...heck, all forms of figure skating!
House Hunters (and House Hunters International)
The Hills (yes...on some sick level I enjoyed this show...)
Laguna Beach (*cringe*...lotta shame on that one)

I don't "love" these shows, but I do like them. Some of them I would watch if no one else was around, and I had my choice of entertainment. You may think I am a sad man, and you may be right. But: I have a good marriage. :thumb:

I'm not really ashamed of saying what I like for some reason. It depends on who I'm with I guess. I don't feel I'm going to get bashed for saying I like these things:

Winnie the Pooh (I adore this show and it's movies even now as an older teen. I was so excited when I met Pooh, Tigger, and Eeyor at Disneyland. XD!!!!! I guess you could say I'm a fangirl for the show....and I'M PROUD OF IT!!!!)

One thing I guess I AM a little embaressed to say that I USED to like Hannah Montana and Power Rangers Operation Overdrive (I liked this one because I thought a certain guy on here was cute. eh-he.....) Oh, and just about any Disney channel movie I've seen. I used to like a few of these, but now I just think they are corny. >_<! So yah, that's it for now.

Is this stuff that we watched when we were little...or now?

If now...then I admit I like: (most of it is Disney Channel related, because CN has kinda failed me over the past few years... )
Phineus and Ferb- This show is actually pretty clever. I enjoy watching it because its adorable and light-hearted. (and my remote is out of batteries)
Wizards of Waverly Place- hehe this show is also pretty cool... I know the target audience is like 12-15 year old girls, but whatever. I at least fit half that audience (being a girl) I think its an interesting idea, having wizard siblings have to eventually fight each other for the rights to the family magic... And Selena Gomez' character isn't that normal "Perfect, cute, and pristine" character. She's a trouble maker...and funny.

I also like Selena Gomez' latest CD... its FUN. >_<

Suite Life- haha. Brenda Song is so funny as London... >_>
Gargoyles- I don't think this is something to be really embarrassed about liking, I mean this show is still really awesome... (I don't draw fanart of things just for the heck of it, I actually have to LIKE it...and I drew a fanart of this XD)

Aside from those Disney shows:
Static Shock!
Jackie Chan Adventures
Teen Titans
Batman: TAS
Justice League (With Hawkgirl in it...)
Super Man: TAS

Should I be ashamed that only a month ago I had an hour long conversation with a friend about Pokemon? Like, the old series? Not only that, but the movies? And we remembered so much about them!

Also, compared to some new shows, I don't think Powerpuff Girls would have been that bad. I remember a girl once showing me pictures she drew of Tokyo Mew Mew but I hadn't seen it before. Still haven't, to be honest.

Now I want to start watching Star Trek TNG (I've seen some before, but not a lot.). Should I really be ashamed?

NO. Star Trek is awesome, unless it's the Enterprise version. Then forget it.

I find that people that say this have not seen the entire series....I was one such person. Now I like it. The third season (Xindi arc) is quite possibly the best season of Trek.

Power Rangers.... I can't beleive I liked it.

Pokemon. Love the games but the series is so corny it makes me want to cry. (Corny in a bad way. The original star trek is corny in a very good way.)

There is nothing embarrassing about liking Star Trek.

There are very few things that I won't admit to liking. Then again, it also depends on who I'm talking to.

I know that a bunch of people might think it's stupid, but as a kid, I was a fan of Bionicle.
I dropped it when I didn't like how the story was coming out, and I still have some toys left over from then.
I suppose the 'embarrassing' part is that I still think that the earlier storyline was fine.

I suppose I tend to take harsh criticism (This is awful, this is about the worst ___ ever, this ___ is crap, etc.) toward things that I like a bit hard, and it's why I don't openly bash most of the things I dislike.
Back on subject, I can't remember a whole lot of the things I'm really 'embarrased' about liking, although, I am pretty slow to state that I like something until I find someone who agrees, but I don't think it counts as being embarrassed about it.

I think Stephen King actually said Stephanie Myer has no talent. Although, that could be just jealousy because of the legion of fangirls she's acquired.
